I think the difference lies in the fact that we are comparing what is basically the top-of-the-line HD 2900 (that is, the HD 2900XT) with what MIGHT (point is MIGHT) be the base HD 3800.

maybe it cause by memory interface 256bit for hd2800 series and 512bit for r600
