hmmm i think this proves nothing, if ATI is going to release any new product, they're sure getting ppl to test out their product to increase publicity.

Probably to drive up the rumour mill, since the 2xxx series is still quite new (at least, for some of us).

I think all the Pro, XT, XTX, GTO and the like the previous generations of ATI chips have.

we shall wait and see in 1 month's time... whether ATI will be able to deliver it's latest product to boost it's financial status.

And whether it will be better than anything nVidia has been offering to us for a while now?

I think he meant no more names like "Pro", "XT", "GT", "XTX" etc

Every model series will have a different model number instead of old naming like 2900Pro and 2900XT.

They probably want to start a firestorm with all the empty sites (these sort of things aren't new), 'leaked' names are usually the source of interest among the hardcore people.

Once they see like a name suddenly appear on the site, or news that certain urls have been registered, the rumour mill starts.

VR-Zone is reporting that new ATI cards featuring the RV670 chip have been re-branded. I cannot access their site from work so the only details that I have are from [H]ard|OCP's short story. I was able to discover that GeCube is the AIB partner that has the HD 3800 listed on their site. Sadly there is nothing there but the HD 3800 page.

Along with this change, ATI has sworn that they are abandoning the whole GT, Pro, XT, XTX thing for a new numbering system. Now we will have cards like the 3860 and 3640. I wonder if they will go so far as 3865 and 3647? Nah, I don't think they will. I am all for this change. I think it will be easier for everyone involved. What do you guys think?

if r670 will be 3800 series, how bout r680 and r700? 3900 series and 4000 series for r700?

I don't know if it's really that important. It's just a name, they can call it whatever they want, it doesn't change the actual hardware.

Basing their predictions on some semi random 3dmark scores? Well i guess this is vr-zone after all. If anything, notice how the current 2900XT equals a 8800GTX in 3dmark but is only on par with a 8800GTS in real games.

that why, ati still can't beat nvidia in real game... don't now new 3800 series able to beat 8800gt or not, coz in some review 8800gt beat 8800gts

not smaller la, the core die based on 55nm, so it smaller compare current r600 which based on 80nm and r630 which based on 65nm. it 256bit
smaller die size produce less heat

i ask about memory bandwidth.. why transfer less..

I think the difference lies in the fact that we are comparing what is basically the top-of-the-line HD 2900 (that is, the HD 2900XT) with what MIGHT (point is MIGHT) be the base HD 3800.

doesnt really matter, R600 wasn't mem bandwidth limited anyway.

maybe it cause by memory interface 256bit for hd2800 series and 512bit for r600
