I cannot believe that England has sunk so low that she has to play Phillip "oh-it's-another-penalty' Neville at left back and have fans calling him the 'better' alternative... but that's just me

QUOTE(madmoz @ Oct 17 2007, 06:19 PM) I cannot believe that England has sunk so low that she has to play Phillip "oh-it's-another-penalty' Neville at left back and have fans calling him the 'better' alternative... but that's just me I guess the only reason some said Phil would be better alternative are because of his experience and they prefer someone experienced in this kind of crucial game? Plus England only has Ashley Cole & Wayne Bridge as the experienced natural LB. Others like Lescott [who is a CB]/Baines/Shorey/etc are still new to the team. I have no problem Lescott playing @ Russia but he will have to improve his game. He was a bit shaky when he came on against Estonia and it was sort of his fault which caused the injury to Ashley Cole. Lescott... it WAS his fault that Ashley Cole got injured, no two ways to put it... down to inexperience perhaps... sadly for me the natural choice for left back is now Gareth Barry, sadly Hargreaves is out injured, so there's no replacement for Barry in CM...

Barry is doing well alongside Stevie at the moment so not sure if its a good idea to move him to LB [even if Hargreaves is available - which he is not]. Opta: Cool ColeQUOTE With the most important game England have faced since Steve McClaren was appointed looming, fans all over the country should be relieved the 'right Cole' got injured against Estonia last Saturday.
Although Ashley Cole and his runs on the left will be definitely missed on the Russian artificial pitch on Wednesday, the presence of an in-form Joe Cole could once again be the key to England's success.
The Three Lions are unbeaten in normal play over the last three years when the Chelsea midfielder has started in competitive games.

He has played in the last four competitive games and England won all of them with the same score line, 3-0, with the most convincing performances since the ex-Middlesbrough manager took over two years ago.

If Hargreaves is available it is possible to shift Barry to left back. Like most of you guys put it P. Neville will offer more experience and solid at the left back position. While Lescott would be asking too much for him since he is unexperienced at this level. So it is reasonable that McClown to field P. Neville in this game since they is plenty riding on it. It is must not lose game for England. If England find this kind of game difficult I think they can easily write their chances to win this competition next summer. A great side would stamp their authority against a good side but nowadays team has the intention of not to be beaten.

Four England fans hospitalisedQUOTE Four England fans were taken to hospital after being injured ahead of the clash against Russia, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said.
Two have already been discharged and the remaining two are expected to be released from hospital in Moscow later on Wednesday.
They suffered minor injuries in a fight on Tuesday night, an FCO spokesman said, although he could not confirm whether they were attacked by rival football supporters.
Officials from the British embassy in Moscow are on standby in case of further trouble around the crunch game, which kicks off at 4pm.
The FCO spokesman said: "As with every international match, a lot of liaison does go on between the relevant policing authorities, the football associations and other interested parties so that everything runs smoothly and with the minimum of incident.'' http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,1...2805528,00.html

McClown going to stabilize his team by just replacing injured players rather than changing the personnel. I have to give him credit on that. Didn't succumb to pressure by fielding Lampard. Lescott will find this game a difficult one for him. In this game we shall see whether he is international class and make the step up
