Hey guys, I'm new to linux biggrin.gif and I wanted to try out uBuntu.
But it seems that I have problem installing it on my Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop. After I boot the CD I'll come to a menu, and after i selected "Install/Start uBuntu" I have no display at all, and my screen goes black laugh.gif its still functioning just that it has no display. What can I do to fix it?

Fellow linux noob here. Have you tried rebooting with the CD inside and choosing "Start Ubuntu in Safe graphics mode"?

Well basically it should just start Ubuntu from the CD, but that should give you an idea what the problem could be.

Can integrated graphics card produce the effects that you have shown above? Is it RAM intensive?

I used Grub bootloader by default, but had to manually edit Grub so it's can recognize OSX.

Wat i did was first partition is OSX (20GB)
2nd partition for Ubuntu (10GB)
3rd partition for Ubuntu Swap (512mb)
4th partition for Fat32

In Grub all i did was select osx which is HDD 0,0

The integrated display on my laptop is Intel 855GM. If compiz config can work on that 855GM chipset laptop, there is another reason for me to try 7.10. tongue.gif

you know my old laptop is a 855gm chipset, run beryl(which is a fork of compiz) on it, runs quite well actually, i uninstall it because it is rather distracting.

anyway it is not beautiful, but it is not ugly either.

intel release opensource driver, so it should work. quite well.
