to those who feel saga is underpowered, not really.
it can drive decently on highway speed or city drive.
if you are not speed demon, it will do just fine especially manual variant.
You don't need to worry much about driving in jem with manual as manual this day, the clutch is really easy to use.
FC for campro vvt now is quite good, tuning got better and improved over the last few years.
u can easily compare 2 iriz manual or auto ( latest vs 2 or 3 years ago) and feel the difference in term of driving and fuel consumption.
i will clearly say, go for new saga. full stop.

My first car is a 2017 Proton Saga CVT.
bought it during my first year of employment.
Saga is good to drive and to own for the first owner.
same as you. the car only serves for weekend drives and outstation. cuz most of the week I rempitz to office.
but by the time you own a car. Sometimes you will definitely use the car for work.
I previously also don't mind Saga Fuel Consumption (FC). but the more I use that car. the more I felt this car really guzzling fuel.
My saga the CVT one only serves me below 400km of a full tank (Mix driving but mostly highways) and yes. I'm kinda the guy that will fuel up the full tank and record the mileage.
The full tank of this saga is around 40l, and you will be refilling it around 33l from E. so, calculate the cost with your desired petrol price.
I cannot give a comment for the new saga as I have been informed that, that car has better FC after they change the Gearbox (GB).
speaking of Gearbox, Saga with CVT is not good. avoid at any cost any proton model with CVT. The GB is only good during test drives and 1st year of usage.
Now after settling up the loan, I gave that car to my sister.
As for your second choice which is City, what model year are you aiming for?
Since I gave Saga to my sister, I have been using Honda Jazz 2013 (TFO/GE) model. Compares to Saga,
that old Jazz has better FC and power, plus also a wide-open boot to put large items. For service, yes older cars need to spend more money to
fix and restore old wear and tear parts. But for normal fluid service. I don't see any cost difference between the two. some parts proton cheaper, some parts honda cheaper.
If buy used, you don`t need to stick to SC price as can survey another outside shop. As for long drives, 1.5l is better than a 1.3l engine. cruising
110kml on the highway gives you optimum power. Also, 1 has just been married for about 1 year. For me, Jazz boots are already enough for small families of
3 or 4. Jazz boot is not so small compares to other hatchbacks but Honda's rear seat flexibility is really good and can carry more goods than Saga.
Honda models before 2014 still use Conventional auto GB. I suggest you go for that model.
you may search for TFO/GE Jazz, TMO/GM5 City, or FB Civic. Conventional GB is more reliable than CVT.
But my main recommendation to you is, to find a car that you can afford to loan for 5 years and below.
