Is the 512 gb storage sufficient for normal usage, not much on editing? Or better to go for 1TB. Thanks.

Order placed, finally. Base model 14" MBP M2 to replace my 2015 15" MBP Retina. QUOTE(babystark @ Feb 22 2023, 03:36 PM) Is the 512 gb storage sufficient for normal usage, not much on editing? Or better to go for 1TB. Thanks. Personally, 512GB is sufficient for me as I don't used for much for content creation work. Previously MBP also was 512GB which struggled a bit, but after the introduction of cloud based storage.. I barely go over the 300GB mark. I'm do a lot of documents with MS, make maps on Illustrator and Earth, as well as edit scout photos on Lightroom. Not into any high rendering stuff.Another reason to go for the 1TB is the faster read/write as Apple uses only one NAND Chip for the 512GB on the M2s. The older M1 had 2X256GB NAND Chips for 512GB. Anyway kudos to Apple's after sales service to be able to make an exception to refund the M1, I've ordered 6 days before the launch of M2. babystark liked this post

QUOTE(potatobanana @ Feb 23 2023, 09:00 AM) Hey guys, 1. Probably a decent sleeve or bag. Personally, will avoid any screen protector because the screen has a coating on it. It won't give you any problems until you damage the screen protector and when removing it, may damage the screen and it's coating. I avoid any protective casing as well, afraid it might mess up the cooling system, but that's just me.What is the compulsory or nice to have accessories to purchase after we got the new macbook pro? 2. Another set of charger, can be a third-party GAN ones. Reason being, I hate to repack chargers and cables so I usually have one set at home, another in my work bag or work desk. I have the Hyperjuice GaN 100W USB-C Charger and I've order another MagSafe 3 Cable. 3. I would suggest a USB-C Hub but the new ones have great I/O already. Maybe a USB-A to USB-C dongle for backward compatibility. I have this : Anker PowerExpand+ 7-1 USB C Hub or something smaller like this UGreen Type C to USB 3.0 Adapter 4. A mouse? Depending on your usage. I have my old trusty Logi MX Master 2S for years, which is much better for my type of work. (Make maps, edit photos, etc.) 5. A hard drive for Time Machine, etc. I got the 512GB base model, and I use a Lacie 2TB Rugged Thunderbolt for my Time Machine. Got a Sandisk Ultra Dual Drive Go 128GB for quick file transfer between different machines. All of my work files are on DropBox since we share a lot between our team. 6. Maybe a Moft Laptop Stand - Was thinking about it for working on-site but most of the time I find myself using the laptop on my lap. Apologies for the long winded post. These are just my personal opinion. potatobanana and AhJian liked this post

And now I am planning to get 14" M2 Pro ones. Is it worth for the change? Cos I think repairs is going to cost a lot (right?)... This post has been edited by kentltp: Mar 13 2023, 01:53 PM |

My previous MBP did come with additional extension cable. *> Previous MBP did come with screen cleaning cloth. *> 1.5hour of Zoom usage - took 20% (100% -> 80%) of battery. *> Rendering of HD 1080p, 30min video took about 9minutes, compare to 2H 24min using MBP mid 2012, in FCP. ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by AhJian: Mar 21 2023, 10:12 AM potatobanana and Crusader liked this post

Hey all, been considering getting MacBook, this would be my first Mac laptop. Always been a windows users, I’m just wondering the durability of the laptops. Cause I know Apple tends to have extremely high repair price if there’s an issue.

QUOTE(xXDeaDXR3dDXx @ Feb 22 2023, 03:51 PM) Order placed, finally. Base model 14" MBP M2 to replace my 2015 15" MBP Retina. Just curious about your 2015 device, did it give you a lot of problems? I’m now considering which MacBook I should go to, and am thinking to take plunge into the 14” one since it has the all the best parts.Personally, 512GB is sufficient for me as I don't used for much for content creation work. Previously MBP also was 512GB which struggled a bit, but after the introduction of cloud based storage.. I barely go over the 300GB mark. I'm do a lot of documents with MS, make maps on Illustrator and Earth, as well as edit scout photos on Lightroom. Not into any high rendering stuff. Another reason to go for the 1TB is the faster read/write as Apple uses only one NAND Chip for the 512GB on the M2s. The older M1 had 2X256GB NAND Chips for 512GB. Anyway kudos to Apple's after sales service to be able to make an exception to refund the M1, I've ordered 6 days before the launch of M2. |

By the way, how do i close all the apps? Because i shut down every night and then when i switch on the next day all the apps are still on? And also can the keyboard or whatsoever be adjusted not be so sensitive? Cause after i switch it off, i use a cloth to wipe the keyboard or maybe it's the trackpad that senses the movements? the entire macbook pro switches on again.....

They did mention in the latest WDCC they will improve the switching experience in the latest OS/firmware... |

QUOTE(miyakochan89 @ May 7 2023, 01:30 AM) Hey all, been considering getting MacBook, this would be my first Mac laptop. Always been a windows users, I’m just wondering the durability of the laptops. Cause I know Apple tends to have extremely high repair price if there’s an issue. my last mac i bought was in 2013. i stopped using it only in 2018 because my workflow got too much for the poor thing. had to switch to a windows gaming laptop cause thats all i could afford and intel based macs were really crap. but my 2013 13" mbp still works great til today as a web browsing document editing media consumption device.so i'd say you'll get 5-10 years good out of it. and remember to get applecare. If comparing the same spec of 16/512gb it is more worth it to go for MBP 14” since the difference is not significant and one gets a lot more with MBP.Only reason why one should go for the MBA 15-inch should be just due to the weight. |

Hardly any weight difference IMO. Only reason why one should go for the MBA 15-inch should be just due to the weight. And in terms of portability, the 14” is actually more portable with a smaller footprint than the 15” Air. The only reason to go for 15” is for the bigger screen size for those who only wants to use it for multimedia and light tasks e.g ms word/excel etc. |

Got the mbp16 for few weeks now and what I can say is the screen and speakers are outstanding!
The speakers are superb, I play music on it and it won't lose to my usual BT speakers in term of sound wise. And battery life already better than my windows laptop. |

QUOTE(Andrewtst @ Jun 17 2023, 06:22 PM) I know the meaning of it, but I feel it unnatural instead, as it feel the movement is opposite. 😅 Welcome to the Mac. My first Mac was with the MBP in 2015 when it first comes along with the force touch trackpad. Natural scrolling and everything else is with the trackpad is just damn intuitively awesome I never looked back. Gosh…who could ever imagine using a laptop without a mouse but with a Macbook, who needs a freaking mouse. Agreed in what you said, on touch screen then different. |

Today I visited the Machines and finally got my AppleCarePlan. Was just going in to get something else but ended up they said they could do it. Weird, their online and in store communication don’t align.

QUOTE(wiraone @ Aug 15 2023, 09:47 PM) Just bought a 32" VA 4K BENQ monitor and regret it 4K needs 42" for 100% scaling. The 32" is actually a nice screen size but don't have good resolution for 100% scaling. 1440p is too big for it and 4K is too small for it. So 32" screen size is out from my listing for the moment. It is either go for 1440p in 27" or 4K in 42". |

Hey wanna ask, let’s say the monitor comes with UBC-C display port, so I just need to connect usb-c cable to my MacBook Pro, that’s all right? Do I need to buy special adapter? Or still best to buy the hdmi adapter?

this guide seems to be the best performance vs scaling i've seen. which leaves me stuck with my 34" UW at 3440x1440. been wanting to upgrade monitor for more juicy real estate but then this turned me off. 32 @4k eats away at your processing power. |

Wow. After a few months of using MacBook Pro, I really love it!! I love that it always stays cool, no fan noises, boot up really fast and it’s a super powerhouse! And also the speaker is absolutely breathtaking. Powerhouse thing I can’t really vouch for it because I realise that now I’m ended up with a super beast and meanwhile I’m just using it mostly for surfing and watching shows. Lol! Am thinking to resell it and get something cheaper like air, should have gotten an Air in hindsight. lol! I have been considering gaming laptop honestly but it seems like I can use GeForce now to play these days? Anyone tried it? Still stick to Ventura haven't make the jump, but I read somewhere in MacRumors forum about Sonoma beta being so stable that didn't happen on MacOS for so long ago.
Wanted to see other Sonoma user comment about it. |

QUOTE(miyakochan89 @ Oct 10 2023, 05:54 PM) Wow. After a few months of using MacBook Pro, I really love it!! I love that it always stays cool, no fan noises, boot up really fast and it’s a super powerhouse! And also the speaker is absolutely breathtaking. Not recommended and honestly the Macs have always been behind when it comes to gaming and playing especially those AAA title games. If you are going to use your Mac for the basic items, yes, the Macbook Air is the perfect Mac for that and you can have a lighter laptop. For me, I switch between a gaming desktop for games and a Macbook Pro M2 for work (company provided).Powerhouse thing I can’t really vouch for it because I realise that now I’m ended up with a super beast and meanwhile I’m just using it mostly for surfing and watching shows. Lol! Am thinking to resell it and get something cheaper like air, should have gotten an Air in hindsight. lol! I have been considering gaming laptop honestly but it seems like I can use GeForce now to play these days? Anyone tried it? |

My MacBook Pro has never heated up before. What do you all use as protection though? I don’t bring my MacBook Pro out except for 1 trip, even then it stays in hotel all the time. I really wanna get a case that doesn’t lift up the screen or cause any scratches on it.i had used case instead before i think it is better for protecting the macbook. |

Question: I connect my macbook pro to my external monitor a lot via USB-C. Only thing is that it will charge my Macbook Pro all the time, which is not favourable to the battery i think. Is there any workaround for this?

Mac has smart charging .. so u can leave it as it is .. I always use it clamshell mode due to space restriction .. in order to do that I have to have it charged. |

Hi guys, just got one new unit MacBook Pro M2 Pro 12 core 16GB RAM 1TB from TMT Lowyat with very reasonable price (RM7999)
Currently surveying hub that can put one M.2 NVME SSD and have ports functionality as well, then look onto this hub: PEPPER JOBS TCH-7M2UD. Does anyone here got use with it? Or do anyone here got better suggestions? |

Does anyone here got use with it? Or do anyone here got better suggestions? I would personally use a separate NVME enclosure as they can get pretty hot. In my opinion the heat will eventually affect the whole hub. |

Anyone else's M2 Pro battery draining faster than usual? My MBP used to be able to last 6-8 hours, but it's dying after around 4 hours with the same usage for the past months.
Battery health is still 95% with 92 cycles only... |

Hi all, my 16in M2 2022 is having a black screen issue. I can still see the screen lighting up but it's vage. When connecting it to my home TV as a mirror to main screen it is usable.
Worst is I bought an AOC 27G2SE/68 monitor for temporary use and it shows my desktop but not responsive. Anyone has come across this issue, do I need to replace my screen. Any recommendations? |
