The Plus version is not sold here officially last I checked few months back.

The processing from both phones are very different, Vivo metering of the shadows are as typical as any other smartphone out there - BRIGHTEN ALL SHADOWS!

Meanwhile the Xiaomi preserves the dark shadows albeit a bit dark but way more realistic!....

Shadows are shadows and are supposed to be dark. Black should appear black, white should appear white...

In most cases also I do not use HDR as it tones down the highlights too much until everything looks really bland and flat, hey I want my sunny pictures to look sunny!

Thanks. That's the same exact video on Youtube which I watched earlier this morning. I skimmed through the video due to lack of time and preferred the image quality of the Vivo to the Xiaomi. Yes, the images on the Vivo look brighter than the Xiaomi and you made a good point that shadows in real life are supposed to be dark and the Xiaomi preserves the shadows better hence the images are darker, and the Xiaomi made the shadows or dark areas appear brighter.

If you strutinise the images in the Youtube video especially the close-up shots, the images of the Vivo look sharper with better clarity and detail. The images of the Xiaomi looks a bit smeared with reduced clarity. In terms of colours, the colours look more natural and pleasing on the Vivo, a little artificial on the Xioami but I could be all wrong.

I'm not sure what is the difference between the Vivo X90 Pro and X90 Pro Plus. I presume the camera in the Pro Plus is better than the non-Plus version? I had a chance to hold the Xiaomi 13 Ultra phone in my hands earlier last week when I visited the Xiaomi store at 1Utama. The price is indicated as RM5199 if I"m not mistaken. Not too sure how much will the Vivo X90 Pro Plus will be priced when it eventually reaches the stores here.

Yes some prefer the colours from the Vivo vs Xiaomi. If you prioritize detail and sharpness perhaps can rope in the OPPO Find X6 Pro also but I find the images a bit too bright for my liking.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra has 2 colour profiles, Leica Vibrant which is the default or Leica Authentic. I find that Authentic has darker shadows and realistic colours, especially for nature, trees, grass, etc but using this profile your pictures will have vignetting, noticeable in some situations. Leica Authentic can look quite bad with the very dark shadows/vignetting in some situations...

Leica Vibrant does not have vignetting but colours are more saturated, greens on the grass and leaves look unrealistic though sweat.gif

Anyway, there are some issues in the camera software for the 13U which you can check in my posts in the Xiaomi thread..

For the Vivo, the Plus version has an extra 3.2x zoom lens..

Yes, there is way much lesser sharpening or micro contrast enhancement applied on the Xiaomi images... which is very notorious in the Samsung phones biggrin.gif

May I ask which phone do you own now? It appears that you have quite a lot of experience with the phones that are discussed here. I used to have Nokia Pureview 808 on Symbian and the clarity and colours are outstanding. It looks like one of the modern Android phones with 1" sensor may have come close or perhaps surpass the quality of the camera in the Nokia.

For me, detail, clarity and sharpness and also good realistic colours are the criteria as I dislike overprocessed sharpening or saturated unnatural colours often introduced by internal software of the phones. If given the choice, I usually will go for phones with large sensor over those with small sensors since large sensors usually produce better image quality in low light conditions. The only cons of these phones is the price as they are mostly above RM4k or 5k which are above my budget. biggrin.gif I will usually wait a little longer for the price to drop or my current phone fails to function then only I'll consider one of these phones with superior camera hardware.

Recent Vivo phone seems to focus more on camera/picture quality, looks like they been filing the vacuum that Huawei left vacant.

I'm using the Xiaomi 13U actually, I own several DSLRS and mirrorless in the past and currently Fujifilm which is why I do have some personal preferences biggrin.gif

I have considered the Honor Magic 5 Pro before but the usual drawbacks, oversharpened, shadows brightened up etc etc.

The Pixel 7 Pro, the colours can be oversaturated (and leaning towards bluish tint) and very contrasty (I was using a Pixel 3 XL previously), and I dislike the nightmode as it "turns" night into day. Plus it does not have manual controls to adjust shutter speed/ISO etc.

Actually the phone with the least amount of sharpening/processing and gives the flattest image are those from Sony, currently the Sony Xperia 1V - This actually gives the biggest headroom in post processing the picture but you need to do this for every single picture IMHO. I think only enthusiasts or photographers would appreciate this.

Anyway, shoot me a PM if you'd like some sample shots from the 13U

Thanks for the post. So you own the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

I'm actually not so keen on post processing and prefer straight out JPEG from the camera with the processing already applied by the camera of the phone when the image was taken. From your description it appears that the Honor Magic 5 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro apply too much processing resulting in an unnatural looking images. These phones have small sensors anyway so it is unlikely I will consider them. Sony Xperia 1V, the sensor is slightly larger but not sure how good it is.

So far the interest is on the two phones which have the largest sensor which are Xiaomi 13 Ultra and Vivo X90 Pro Plus. Both have received good reviews too.

Maybe if you could wait until Dec this year where Xiaomi will likely launch the 14 series

The price of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is already RM5199 at the moment, and if there's a new 14 Ultra, it will likely be even higher. It's not within my price range at their current MSRP laugh.gif My intention is to wait a little longer for the price to drop or until my current phone dies.

Anyway thanks for the sample images of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra which you sent to me earlier. The clarity and sharpness are surely good with very little smearing of lines and processing even in low light condition shots. I would have expected a 1" sensor to have this advantage. Colours look good too although I would prefer it to be a bit more saturated or natural DSLR like, and it's just the earlier comment on the image looking a bit dark. Overall it's OK.

Any reviews on this phone after 1 year? Thinking of getting the X100 Pro or Pro Plus. Mainly for the great macro cameras.

So far so good. Only downside is cannot run Android auto for X90 pro plus using China ROM, OriginOS.

5G is working fine.

Notification need to tweak carefully to balance between prompt notification versus battery drain.

Yesterday just upgraded ROM to originOS 4.

Front camera still cannot do 4k if not mistaken.

Charging is fast.
