This thread is for all the new Powerball users! Come post up your topscores and share with us how your Powerball has benefited you
If you havent read the FAQ, please do! Alots of questions such as technique, proper handling, DIY solutions for problems can be found at the official FAQ.
Unofficial FAQ - New users, do not try to beat the top score right out of the box! Try to figure out the movement first, and learn to master the most efficient technique to keep the ball alive. Then only you can start beating topscores
- Its recommended for first time people to play on bed to avoid the ball overpowering you after you try a "Powerburst". A "Powerburst" is when you try to hit a top score, and put in all your might and strenght to increase the ball speed. But once u used up all your energy, you might not have any energy left to hold the ball as it spins down from your attempt, and as a result of that, it might overpower your hand and jump off. Playing on a bed will prevent your ball from being damaged
- NEVER DROP YOUR BALL ON THE FLOOR! Nuff said . If you do, it'll get two little bumps on the inner track of the powerball where the rotor rotates on. I'll feel like there is two bumps, which makes it less smooth, but other than that, it still works fine .

A normal beginner perhaps can hit 5000rpm, more veteren can reach about 10000rpm, but this guy break the 16000rpm barrier!! Just look at his muscles when he tries his best to spin. :

Opening and cleaning is very easy once you've done it the first time. You should make it a regular habit of cleaning your Powerball, especially if you often use your shirt to stop the ball, or if you do not grip the ball firmly whenever you stop it.
Here is a video on how to open your powerball. Notice how easy it is? Just make sure you put a layer of soft material under the ball to prevent the edges of the ball from chipping when in contact with the table (or hard surface)
Here are a few pictures i took when i was cleaning my powerball
Once i opened up, this greet me. Lots of plastic chips lining up all around the track. This is what causes the uneveness and to a certain extent, vibrations when you are spinning the Poweball.
After i ran my nail round the track once. See how much dirt in total?
Some are on the polycarbonate ring (aka support band). These has to be cleaned too
You have to remove the polycarbonate ring and clean around the rotor as well as the metal rods too. Becareful not to mixup and loose the round and square washers!
Here is how its supposed to be when you put it back
Finally its all cleaned up. It might look like there are some residue but its actually the very very small uneveness cause by bad stopping (not holding firmly). You can further fix it by taking a light to medium grade sandpaper and even out the bumps and valleys.
After doing all these, your powerball will feel much much smoother. Even i was so impressed how much difference cleaning made and i didnt even used the sandpaper yet. Perhaps i will try that next time

* if all you are experiencing is just uneveness and loss of smoothness, its because the build up dust and dirt on the tracks. you can just fix it with a simple clean. read the DIY Opening and Cleaning for a quick fix. and learn to stop the ball properly to prevent the problem from occuring
From time to time you should make an inspection on whether your Powerball internals are damaged. Some of the possible damage caused by wear and tear are :
- Cracked rotor : Check your rotor regularly. If you notice the plastic fins on the side of the rotor to have crack lines, then its time for a change!
- Bent metal axle : This rarely happens, but to test for this, all you need to do is just to spin the rotor with your finger and see whether it makes a smooth complete rotation. If its bent, you'll feel it turns funny every half rotation
- Enlarged polycarbonate ring/support band hole (where the metal rods attaches to) : Remove the polycarbonate ring and see the hole. If its oval shaped or shaped like an 8 figure, its time to change
- Chipped/cracked/bent polycarbonate ring/support band : This is normal wear and tear, but could be sped up much faster if the user DO NOT GRIP FIRMLY the ball while stopping the powerball. You can replace this.
- Chipped/cracked/dented track on the plastic sphere casing : Same as above, and could also be caused by dropping the ball on the floor
Now to ask for replacements, you can 1) email them here : repairs@powerballs.com 2) fill in this form : http://www.powerballs.com/repairs/ Be prepared to show them some picture of the damaged parts as a proof, and when they are satisfied, they should send the replacement parts free of charge

just wondering...neon and techno which 1 look more cool? i like the "light" of neon but techno..got very unique score display
i personally prefer the neon the techno ball display is very cumbersome and takes some pratice to steady for u to read and the techno is slower 3-5% than the 250hz, while the neon is just 2-3% slower
this thing very addictive u know..after knowing how to use it cant stop playing..my hand hurts so much..after the pain reduce a little i start playing again..hayoo..now my hand are shaking..hahaha..typing also hard..hahaha..
share your score dude ..hayoo..so many buying but not reply here..come on..lets share our score and trickshere..i still cant find the way to use the thumb flickr
haha.. score too low. malu to post keep practicing the thumb flick man. soon you'll get it. haha.. watch the videos in you tube for some guidance, but in the end, you gotta have a feel for it. May the Force Be with you
just got mine ^^ first few time try using the starting cord.. then use 2 times the 'transparent thing' at the end of the cord being pull off =.= then learn 2 use finger flick ^^ check out the clip at youtube to learn guys.... hehe.. now manage only use right hand to flick ^^^ here's my starting score~ haizz.. can't even break 7k

haha the cord u must pull perpendicular away from ball, not towards you because if u pull towards you, the white transparent thing will snag at the edge of the powerball casing
no wonder.... =.= i'm pulling towards me... 2 side of tat transparent thing gone liaw... bcome cannot use a... luckily got another 1.... hah.. if nt finish can go claim new 1... ^^ still learning to use finger flick... sometimes can sometimes cannot...
regret regret regret regret regret..no RPM meter...aisey...regret regret regret...I dunno how fast im spinning but the powerball is creating sum very high pitch sound xd, hos fast is that? (Im so pitiful, hahaha!!)

well u want u can purchase seperately, RM60 its abit expensive thats why better get Pro at first place go sell it off and buy pro xD

*waiting for my right hand to regain sensation. right hand no "feel"liau now*
is it? yeah...the white color look simple but cool need to add another RM10 for that
ehh daijoubu..is it possible to change to signature my 1 is under 2nd bulk
still wondering what is the different between singature and neon beside the LED color lah
the color of the light emited will be diff. Signature will be a nice white color light while the neon's one depending on which one you get. also, the color of the plastic around the ball for the signature is colorless (see through) but for the neon is colored (can see through also). as for the speed, not so sure msut ask TS =) but if im not wrong both have 2-3% speed reduction as compared to the 250Hz Pro version. its not really noticeable actually. the speed is slight reduced to light up the LEDs. like a dynamo. remember those kampung bicyles with the dynamo powered lights near the front tyres?
Joined: Jan 2003

so no need to put the battery lah rite? the the brightness of the light is up to the speed..is it? i think...i just stick at neon for my order maybe next time i'll get the signature if both also got the same spec lah
thats right for all LEDs to function on all Powerball models, you dont need any batteries. the pwoer comes from your hand babeh haha but you will need batteries for your RPM meter. the website said it should last for about more than one year? cant remember sorry haha.. but it will be quite long before you ahve to change it. as for the Techno model, it doesnt need any batteries at all. cause its RPM meter display is from the LEDs itself
its really up to you now. i had a go at the signature model. imo if you, the singature model feels very 'classy', like a collectors model havent seen a neon up close though
they have the leg attachment for the Powerball.. but you know what we need? we need a powerball that can be strapped to our abs! that will definately beat doing sit ups daily
bro the rpm meter battery need to change 1?and wan to ask my record always dissapear always change back to zero 1..what happen ah?
yup, must change when it dies out. it wont be so soon la dun worry. they said can last very long. so worry next time those watch batteries if im not mistaken.
and again if im not mistaken, you pressed the right button on ur RPM meter when it is already on. im guessing you tot it was the power off button and u pressed it. cause thats wat i did too if you take a closer look, the words of the left and right buttons are on top and says "FCN" and "ON/CLR respectively. the word at the bottom is "Auto Power Off" and doesnt refer to any of the buttons. so if you wanna swtich it off, just wait for 40 seconds when the Ball is idle hope this helps. haha..
I managed to get a score of 10001 just now. Next attempt the RPM meter went haywire and recorded a top score of 15360, whereas I didn't even manage to spin it after using the starting cord. Had to clear the record then Only managed 8666 now. Still can't do the thumb flick.

How do you guys grip the ball?
Guys read the manual and try to understand how to use. It took me a while to understand how to use the RPM meter =.=
There are five functions, 4 selectable ones
1) How many rounds you have spun. If 1000, it'll display 100 2) Current RPM 3) Top rpm. If you select this funtion and spin the ball, it'll record your current topspeed of that particular run. You can differentiate the function difference by looking at the icon. Thunder icon is topspeed every. Thunder icon inside a circle is topspeed for this run. To clear the topspeed evern, press the ON button when it is selected. To clear the topspeed for current run, click the ON button when the ball is still moving 5) Average rpm for 30,60 or 90 second
you must make sure you dont press the ON button while the thunder icon (topspeed ever) is selected, if not it'll clear it. the rpm counter autooff one, so dont need try to off it

Yup ... the button can clear the memory for the socore. N also, maybe u accidentaly press the button when u try to hold/grip the powerball as tight/firm as u can.

I'm aware of that. Cleared my highscore deliberately as it had recorded a non-existent 15360rpm. I'm gonna have a hard time breaking that
I found out that I have scratched my ball by using the starter cord Any tips for thumb flick? I can get it up to ~1200rpm, but not able to let it continue to flow
Added on October 12, 2007, 5:50 pmWhew! Managed my first thumb flick!
This post has been edited by Crazy.SoT.Gila: Oct 12 2007, 05:50 PM
haha thumb flick trick is in your spinning technique if you can flick up to about 1200-1500, then its good enough, what matters next is whether you can maintain the energy and increase the rpms
keep practicing your wrist technique, and u'll get it =D

That's the problem! I can't seem to continue from there. Only done one successful flick so far Any tips on improving grips? Feels like it's going to fly away at ~9000rpm and I can't seem to figure out how to use the wrist cord
try flipping a little harder. makes it a little easier cause the gyro will be spinning faster so the momentum built up already serious users get some kinda grip goo and apply it onto their hands and onto the powerball. hahah.. gives them more grip other than that, you could just try squeezing with so much force you can create a black hole
well, i finally passed 10k, so im gonna post my score now. hahaha.. modest achievement. shall allow my hand to recuperate first

10459rpm, 250Hz Pro
Problem with gripping that hard is...my fingers might actually get a burn by the rotor I keep trying not to let my fingers slip in
I just got mine. ITs nice. My first score is 8841. I can't thumb start yet.
Anyway, its nice...

haha well the thing is that it gets harder to hold it as the thing gets faster. at 10krpm, i feel like im gripping like mad, and the thing is, the harder u grip, the more u work your muscle .
after doing a powerburst, i have no energy to keep holding it i have to use two hands to stabilize it

wah like very interesting.. care to explain wat does the herz means?
Do you mean the hertz? 250Hz means the rotor is capable of doing 250 rotations per second, which is equal to 15000 rotations per minute (RPM). But there are people who have surpassed the 15k barrier
Damn.. I still can't get my thumb flick well...and my thumb is burning now
He! He! 2nd day into having my PowerBall Pro Amber. Addictive? Not as much as I thought but ya... on and off you just feel like spinning it.
Just give you guys what I got... Here is a pic when I opened the package. 1 ball, 2 strings, 1 colored instruction leaflet, 1 warning leaflet. And a box.
And, here is my highest score for the day. And seems like I am the highest now. Kekekeke...
Oh ya... guys... do you guys feel difficult to hold the ball? My small finger feel like coming off when I spin....

I just did a spin, finally being to break the 10k barrier again! Got a score of 10752, no camera now though Putting on the wrist cord somewhat gives me more confidence to go break my muscles, but it may be a bit annoying Just wanna ask, how come the wrist cord is different from the one displayed on the site? This one looks ugly
Added on October 13, 2007, 3:46 pmA part of the skin on my little finger has peeled off slightly due to the grip Not giving up!! Using 4 fingers now Much slower though

this thing will train on which part of our arm?will it be better then lifting a dumbell?interesting..if can train up my muscle will get 1 for myself
its fake la at the end where he show the score to the camera theres a camera blur, then they used a camera trick. thats why theres a small jump between frames but good fake nontheless
whoa that bad ah 0.o. hahaha thats quite funny wei

which wrist cord you are refering too? the one sold on the website one is the normal looking, one piece wrist cord. looks like a handphone strap . the one signature gets is a bigger, more wider two piece wrist cord which is detachable. i prefer the signature one, but i rather use it for my handphone or something

Yep the yellow one that looks like handphone strap They should've made it nicer to match the beauty of the ball

When your RPM meter corrupts, you'll get a score of 15360
Now, I want to beat the 12k mark. My struggle is not because no strength (well, for first few seconds I mean) but it is more like catching the momentum of the spin. But trying too hard will just make you lose all your energy... haiz...

My Powerball got klik kluk sound!!! Arrrgghhh.... I thought it was temporary but its seems like its permenant. Someone help me!!!
This post has been edited by timothyy: Oct 15 2007, 05:14 PM
yo timothyy dont worry, the kluk kluk sound could be temporary as u use more
mine had the kluk kluk sound previously, and now it wore off already, but instead, the smooth brand new feeling is gone it really depends on how u play if u spin it very very fast and hit high topscores, and do not brake it slowly but instead just grip it hard and try to stop it, its bad for your powerball in the sense that it reduce its 'brand new' feeling
but worry not the performance will not degrade much if not at all. i've compared my battered signature which feels like 1 year old after letting lots of noobs try , and i can manage the same topscore with the signature as compared to a new 250hz pro.
so yeah, the powerball will slowly loose the brand new fluidity over time, and how fast that depends on how harsh you treat it, but worry not it wont degrade in performance

May be its because you use Signature Series. Akis only did 14k with his Signature series but 16k with normal one.
Don't worry... after Raya, all those who bought your Powerball will start showing their scores. Now holiday time... not many spammers.
I think teenagers will be able to do it with higher score...
Perhaps perhaps might get one 250hz just for record setting but now i've been doing regular but slower speed to strengthen my arms can feel got difference la. my topscore increase slightly already
ps : haha i teenagers depending on whether they have arm strenght or not . like me got more flabs than muscles >.<

Right hand is struggling to break 11k whereas left hand struggling to break 10k. Both fail..fail and fail Gotta learn some secrets from timothyy

No more money to buy I use on both hands, need to balance it out
I'm seeing a lot of small white particles inside the shell..is this normal?
just get one of them to play and get the hang of it then the bug should spread tried and it worked b4 lol but then, as a result of that, my signature kena raped by them la =.=''
Kekeke... see la... I go and poison them now...

its normal mine also have already whenever u do a powerburst, becareful not to just slacken your hand or try hard to brake the ball by fighting the inertia in the opposite direction cause it'll cause it to jar and jump on the track, causing it to slowly scratch off bit of the plastic. always slow down the rotation of your hand instead.
anyway dont worry it wont affect the performance, just the sound/feel of the powerball

Nice tip. I've always stop straight away right after a spin. Produced sounds but I didn't think it matters. Guess not
Aiming for 12k now...won't be easy Left hand still can't get pass 10k
Btw, spinning it on top of your shoulders stresses the biceps. Can't spin it for long that way..might be a good way to train the biceps since it's usually more focused on the forearm.

yup and spinning and sustaining 8krpm and above stresses the biceps too. do if u want to train your biceps, try to sustain above 8k rpm for long periods of time. use the last function of the rpm meter to train

the kluk kluk or wong wong sound is normal, also occurs in mine its all because of the way u slow down the ball after you powerburst read this faq suprisingly managed to find a website that explains what i meant in detail, and it happens to be india's powerball site
My Powerball isn't as smooth and quiet as it was..
QUOTE
This is a common complaint and is easy to solve.
When you first take the ball from its box, you will note the perfectly fluid and silent action with which it operates - the rotor whirr's away and there is no noise, bar that 'jet fighter' sound as the speed increases.
After a few weeks of use however, this lovely fluid movement and silent rotation can be replaced by a noisy, gravely movement, which, although still yielding out much the same torque, doesn't offer as much pleasure of use as from when it was new and you probably wonder just what might be wrong with it all?
What we have found from experience is that customers would take the ball and spin it up to around 10,000rpm - at which point their limbs become tired and they cease building the speed and slacken or loosen their (tired) hand grip on the gyro. Now, despite the fact that the rotor itself is absolutely perfect in its balance, it is still traveling at around 9000rpm and is putting out considerable inertia. This 'gyroscopic torque' is transmitted into the outer sphere, which is now sitting quite loosely in the players hand and begins to resonate or shake in sympathy with the slowing rotor (which itself will begin to 'jarr' or grate inside the sphere. making that awful rattling noise as the speed is violently scrubbed off as a result!).
The rotor is supported on a hardened steel axle which itself sits on a smooth poly carbonate support ring - this support ring is sandwiched in between the lips of the two halves of the outer sphere - in a cavity of about 5 mm in height (this cavity is what allows that 'play' in the rotor when the ball is stationary). Each time the ball is allowed to slow down in this 'unsupported' manner and makes that grating noise as a result, tiny fragments of plastic are shed from that support band as it revolves around which, over a period of time will eventually cause that rough noise you are currently hearing in those older balls.
In this instance, what can also happen is the that perfectly fitting axle (which sits into the rotor support band at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions) will begin to enlarge the hole(s) in which it sits from perfectly fitting circles into larger oval shaped holes or even figure of 8 holes which results in an unpleasant play in the rotor and will help to slightly reduce the overall speed it can achieve.
Again, this isn't a huge issue as the ball will still do its job and exercise the required limbs each time you use it - however, the noise and roughness is disappointing when you recall how smooth they were from new and as a result you'd be keen to make sure it doesn't keep on happening! (As a counter measure, we have written the above cause/cure into our instruction manual which comes with each ball in order that our customers would always try to hold the ball tightly while the rotor is spinning.)
Its not, therefore, about how you start them...its simply about how you stop them - keep a firm grip at all times.
Anyway...the solution for this ailment is twofold:
Get a high pressure air source, remove the counter and while the rotor is spinning at around 5k, blast the air jet into the top of the ball - this will serve to dislodge the plastic dust that has built up inside the cavity (alternatively, open the ball in a small vice and clean it out with a soft dry cloth) After you have done this, continue to use the ball as normal, except making sure that it is always held firmly until the rotor has stopped.
Washing the unit is also possible. ONLY THE MODELS WHICH DO NOT PRODUCE ANY LIGHT. Make sure to remove the counter first - and wash it in warm water with no soap and make sure to rinse well and leave to dry properly - though we personally prefer the high pressure air method!)
Simple as that!
Finally, Powerball should never be lubricated....ever! That will kill it instantly!
So no worries guys =D. It'll still give out the super strong torque, just wont feel as nice Try to slow it down properly so it doesnt worsen
I just got mine from poslaju, coz I was not at home when it came on Friday.
Anyway, been trying it... I gotta say, it's either I am not doing it right or simply dumb or it's damage during postage, I just can't maintain the ball to keep rolling. As soon as I spin it with the starter string, and face it down and move my wrist, it dies off like in matter of seconds. And it keep having the knocking sound.

Pull the string harder!! HARDER!!
djb, the counter can take out 1 kah? I thought only for those who bought the counter and ball separately can take out?
jz open up n clean it.... got bit improvement.. ^^ mayb jz like it says... best method is use the high pressure air blow... easy... use my cloth like so hard to rub off the tiny particle.. :S btw... i jz know tat it's the 'white silicon' thing spinning le.... won't the 'white' thing wear off after few years usage?? since.... it keep spinning around 10k ma :P
Kekeke... There are 2 movements in the PowerBall. 1 vertically and another horizontally.
The vertical movement is the one that make the F1 sound. And this is the one that gives the RPM reading. The horizontal is the one that balance the inertia. This is the one that is making the klik kluk sound and wong wong sound. Hence, that is why they claim it will not effect the efficiency of the Powerball.

ur not doing it right you have to pull the string harder, and get at least 1500rpm and then use your wrist to maintain the momentum and slowly increase the spin the powerball is pretty hardy, it wont get damaged in the postage so easily

yup counter can be removed, use a flat head screwdriver and pop it out at the sides
QUOTE(stormaker @ Oct 17 2007, 03:21 PM)
Looks like a lot of us having the noise problem ... me also ... n it started noisy after the third times, also .. it vibrate a bit before stop ....
the reason why it vibrates before it stop is because you forcefully try to stop it by either slacking your hard or gripping it very hard and exert force opposite to the spinning direction. as you know, when the ball is stationary, there is abit of up/down play for the rotor. meaning, you can press the rotor up and down inside the ball when its steady. now when its spinning, it'll spin right in the middle, but if u were to stop it forcefully or you were to slacken your hand, it'll allow the ball to jump inside the track, causing the hard metal ends to eat up the track, or enlarge the polycarbonate ring. now when this happens, the smooth fluid feeling of the ball will wear out, giving that hard gravely feeling, but, it does not affect performance much, just the feel.
so, to prevent this, you must NOT slacken your hard or grip it very hard to forcefully stop the ball you have to instead, continue to grip it firmly, and slowly reducing the amount of strength on the ball
also, the white silicon thing isnt the one moving at 10k rpm. the rotor is the one moving at 10k rpm. but the white silicon thins (called the polycarbonate ring) is usually the one that will wear out first , depending on how u stop the ball.

if u use it properly it wont wear off for years and years but if u continue to stop it the wrong way, it'll eventually wear off and you'll have to replace the polycarbonate ring and/or the housing, which i think u can request from them to be sent to u the rotor is the one that can last very very long, and its the most important part. the ring and housing is easily replacable

dude man.. finally know how to use it haha I am a slow learner, now I can even do the stringless flick I have been rolling it for almost an hour, the entire right arm seems to be numb haha real fun indeed.
Haha good for u renavatio =D. Im impressed u managed to learn the thumb flick so fast
Guys i've opened up my Powerball and cleaned the track, now its smooth again!! . Apparently, those chipped off plastic from the casing and the polycarbonate ring are like little 'bumps' when they accumulate on the tracks. So when the metal rod goes over them, you can feel the uneven bumps and jerks. Once i opened it up and cleaned up the track and the polycarbonate ring, it felt much much more smoother =D. Of course you'll still feel the roughness because the track is no longer as even when it was new, but it will feel much smoother .
You all should learn how to open your powerball. Its very easy. Watch this video :
Just use brute force. I whacked it a few times cause i was afraid i might spoil it, but it wont budge. So finally use proper strength and it popped open. The thing is tough! But try to put a soft cloth between the ball and the hard surface to prevent the edge of the ball from chipping .
Also when you whack your ball, make sure 1 of the the screw hole is facing the floor, while the other screw hole is where u whack it. Just becareful not to whack too hard you hurt your hand .
I'll post up pictures of me cleaning my Powerball soon

My PB is getting worse I can clearly see more white particles in the shell now. It seems that although I have tried to follow the instructions, it still damages the ball I might try opening it up tomorrow. Can feel more roughness too during the spins. Only 1 week old
On the plus side, I achieved a new highscore of 11499! Was 11495 previously No idea where the camera is now Left hand is able to break 10k too
Added on October 18, 2007, 10:23 pmOh and, I would like to ask, is it okay to stop the ball straight away (use finger to stop it) while it's spinning?

I guess we have to bear with the wear and tear. It is just a ball made of plastic. What can we expect? No matter how good is the ball bearing, it still uses the plactic as th rail. Sooner or later, it will wear off.

Of course not when it's spinning at 10k lah When already slowed down, but I'm not that patient to grip it until it stops, I'll just stop it using my fingers. So it's okay right to stop it (with fingers/shirt/anything)? I'm gonna try to open up in the afternoon.

i personally no experience with the part request, but i think perhaps u need some photos to show the defect area best is for u to just email them at the given email and they'll guide you thru on what to do
but i advice you to get familiar with opening and maintaining your powerball first it'll definately help to get to know what are the parts in your powerball, and what causes what problem
if after u've cleaned the tracks, and tried sandpapering the tracks and it still gives vibration, then you must check whether is the polycarbonate ring bent or cracked, or whether the mount holes are enlarged
air pump? u mean vise? air pump how to open? vise u can find at hardware shop apit-G or C-clamp

This guy not steroid user but ganja user. That's why no energy. Kekeke...
Anyway, its normal not to get same score for both hands. First of all, you can control better movement on your right hand or the one that you use to tfk. Try using your other hand to tfk and you will what I mean. You can't control it as smooth.
Whatever you do, be careful of your other hand as it is not as strong. It will get injured easier.
haha.. just like the normal thumb flick! just that now ill use the thumb of the same hand that will build up the momentum for it to spin. hold the ball in the position where your index finger (number 2 ) and your thumb will wrap around the lips of the opening of the ball (that means the spinning part will be facing you). rotate the ball till ur able to spin it by flicking ur thumb upwards. thats how u get the ball rolling. after that start rotating it like ur rotating a glass of wine if needed i guess i could take some pictures haha.. but i think you tube has a clip as well.. all the best!
keep trying ^^ sooner or later you'll get it took me awhile to get it right. make sure you flick with enogh force! haha.. can try to gain momentum by moving ur whole wrist as u start flicking with the thumb

hehe.. erm.. actually just think of it this way. from the normal way you rotate ur wrist when holding the ball, now you have to reposition your palm so that your thumb and index finger wraps around the lips of the ball. like how you hold a whisky glass (am i right on this? or is it wine glass? =.=.. i dun drink hahahaha... sorry). so when you wanna rotate the ball, have to change the angle of rotation abit lor. thats why i said rotate like rotating a glass filled with water but actually this is just my style. im sure u can adapt and come up with a diff style that works and suits you

daijoubo, i accidentally tore the rubber around the gyro when i wanted to clean the scope. damn it's my 1st time tyring to take it out. is there warranty for it? if not how much do i have to pay to get a new one?

what rubber u tore? the one outside or inside? is it the round polycarbonate ring that is around the rotor inside the ball? i think u can request for a free replacement try this page : http://www.powerballs.com/repairs/
nope it's the grip outside the ball =.= i think i've been too harsh to it. i can feel the rpm decreasing. i could hit 10.9k last time and now i can hardly hit 10k

you can try requesting for a replacement
have u been slackening your hand whenever u try to hit high scores?
i've recently tried my friend's powerball, signature too, same as mine, and received same time as me he's been taking real good care of it, never ever slackening his hand whenever the ball is slowing down. until now it feels very smooth i get kinda jealous whenever i use mine perhaps i'll ask for a replacement part for mine too real soon

Btw, I would like to submit my application to join the 12k club
Got stuck at 11978 for a few days
Added on October 30, 2007, 6:26 pmLOL! 999 RPM above yours, djb
Haha i got one signature and one pro blue which i gave to my bro and dad to use . My signature i think the ring is failing, abused too much. Gonna ask for a replacement part soon. U wait i'll beat ur score . Sooner or later .

Just Powerball daily for a few minutes, you'll get to 11k, and eventually 12k too. Hardly powerball with my left hand now, can hardly reach 10k now
Me can get 9k+ for my left hand too. Right 11k, so about 1.5k-2k difference =.=. Gotta train left more.
QUOTE(Doomsday @ Oct 30 2007, 08:04 PM)
1st try was 10,369 rpm 2nd try was 10,505 rpm 3rd try....
Finally
Well done! Damn everyone is joining the 11k and 12k club already >.<

i suspect its the ring failing la feels like its harder to start and uneven still works the same at high rpms, just at low rpms feels different >.< thats the problem with letting lots of noobs use it hahaha
Lately i've realised my hand stamina is better Can last longer with the powerball, but of course at around 5-6krpm More for toning than trying to reach scores
Anyway, i think we should try strength index challenges soon
must the exposed part always face the floor? dammit i cant get it to go above 2.5k >.< cant seem to get the rotating technique right... keeps on dying off after the initial spin..i got the thumb flick technique though, just can't get it to keep moving

Not necessarily. You can have it facing to your palm also. You may even get a better grip that way as the RPM counter part is smaller. Do be careful though, make sure you do not make contact with the rotor while spinning, else you would suffer from frictional burn.
Keep trying. If you feel that you can't get the technique, try referring to videos. Soon enough you'll be able to get it.

nope you can hold it anyway u want, as long as u dont touch the exposed part if not burn ur hand u gotta perfect the rotating skill first, before u try the thumb flick practice makes perfect it'll take a while to get it =D

i lazy use cord lol cuz after start with cord, it'll go on for like 5 seconds then it dies off thumb flick easier for me lately the string keeps getting caught in the ball so i ditched the starting cord

It depends on how you control the powerball.. If you find comfortable with anti-clockwise then just continue with it

When you pull with the string, try not to pull close to the edge of the case as the end of the cord will snag on the edge. You could try training thumb flick tho, it'll help loads.

Wow not bad score, for anti clockwise somemore. Weird u cant do clock wise. Perhaps you need to train more . Try changing direction when ur spinning anti clockwise. Just flick ur wrist and it shud change direction
hahaha it'll take a while for a complete newbie to master it read the manual first
for starters, use the starter cord insert it into the biggest hole in the middle, not the small ones then wind the rotor then jerk the string and pull it out like you are starting a motor when you pull, try to pull towards the side, not towards the top cause it might snag on the edge of the casing mouth
the optimum rpm speed i feel is about 800+rpm. then you start twisting your wrist like you're stirring eggs in a bowl if you do it correctly, you will feel a very nice viscous feeling there will be a steady whirl, not kak kak kak sound and the speed will increase you'll know it wan if u get it correctly
Can i meet up with you so that you can try it and on your own judgement tell me if i'm an idiot for thinking so or if i'm an idiot for ruining it after 3 days?

the highest score that i get is about 84 only only can manage to tahan about 10 secs then slow down
i already read the manual and watch few videos from youtube and also from their official website look very easy but when i try by my own..fuhhhh..super hard

just got the ball from my home, sorry for not informing btw, wanna ask, if using thumb flick to start the ball, it totally wont have the kak kak kak sound ??
owh ya i got below 100 because of the 1st mode now i change to 3rd mode the highest score that i get only 6400+ hehehe need to practice more
haha slowly does it. to work out, its better to do prolonged mid rpm then do short bursts of hi rpm

the kak kak kak sound only comes out if u are not spinning correctly its not dependent on whether cord or thumb start method

Ya no problem... Your question daijoubu already answered clearly and precise
it is not actually kak kaka kak, just the sound of having friction between 2 things seems a bit scary
does it make such sound after the momentum gain higher? Now my powerball makes squeaking sound when low RPM but high RPM just smooth. Maybe is time to clean it up

i actually prefer using thumb flick, ditched the starting cord already. never used it much, thumb flick much easier for me also because i'm lazy to wind the thing haha.. 800rpm? when you start ? isn't that VERY slow for a cord start? should be like 3000 rpm or so, about 1000+ for a thumb flick?
anyways, what's the longest you guys let the gyro run? doesn't have to be really high rpm, somewhere along 6000+ rpm. . . i was playing with it while watching a movie and didnt realize how long i was playing with it and now my hand feels weird
girl here hitting 6094 on first attempt..... best score 7980 after several attempt...... I guess that will be my highest score for the rest of my life coz both my hands went red from my finger tips to my elbow..... I kinda freak out..... never seen this before in my life

thats the sound it makes when you dont grip it firmly and slacken your hand. ALWAYS grip it firmly. if not it'll grind the support ring inside

haha yup thumb flick is much more convenient. never used string anymore. i dont pull hard cause i can start at lower rpm. its training also . the less rpm u can start with, the better. haha yeah i watched a few episodes of simpsons while playing with it. its better that way cause u can build muscles

not bad score leh =D. haha you overstressed yourself. dont worry just relax and let it rest. next time, do for longer periods and lower rpm to build your strength, then after a few days, u can try hitting top scores again. u'll notice u can hit higher

2 days after playing around with the powerball my timer reseted and its been doing that for awhile now...are anyone elses powerball doing the same thing like this?? Is it normal??
Thumb flick...
This is how i do it
1. Hold it in your left hand..... 2. Flated your thumb facing upwards on the ball... 3. While pressing the ball, quickly push your thumb upwards and turn the ball round and round like you do after you start it with the string provided..
I would like to say i can 98% of the time start the powerball this way...after while i could do this in any direction (flick) up & down.. the above is how i started finger flicking....mind you it took me 6 hours to get used to it...

What you mean timer reset? You mean the top score? Whenever u press the ON button while the ball is not moving u'll clear off the topscore . Do read the manual on how to operate the rpm meter. Its kinda tricky =.=
Just out of curiosity, can this Powerball be used to build arm muscles?
I noticed most if not all of you have "strong" arms prior to "playing" with the Powerball. I have no record nor experience of bodybuilding or what not, just typical college student.
So I was wondering, can this Powerball help to build arm muscles? I'm not talking about having those big guns or extremely huge biceps/triceps; but just moderately nice/lean shaped arms!

Hello there
The powerball can help you build wrist muscles, and to a certain extent, your biceps and triceps, depending on how you use it. Certain techniques can help u concentrate the muscle building point on specific areas. Check the website for more details
To be more precise, it can build muscle strength, not mass. Meaning you will get stronger arm, but not size. Unless you are really thin, then will see some muscle growth. I believe, the powerball exercise is meant for training muscle contraction and muscle coordination (when we switch between different muscles to flex the ball and sustain the vibration). To build mass, you need to do slow and heavy lifting.
Oh, didn't see your italic all above 12k are steroid users Damn..12.7k o_O..a bit more can go try for powerball's official highscores. How about you? Still stamina-building?
Long time never come in... seems like a lot of progress here. My Powerball is not moving at all. I tried to play it the other day and got one really hard klick kluk sound.

try opening it up and clean it for a poweruser like you, sure got alot of debris inside already from the power handling

Check the front page on steps on how to open and clean it
eh , this ball seems abit amusing lei... 14 yr old can achieve 12k arh? XD.. technically.. it applies g-force on your hands rite??.. the pressure.. thats y muscle building??. explain pls + i noob =(

PS : since its turning so rapidly.. wont it fly out of your hand
It will, which is one of the limiting factors to the RPM. Gotta have a really tight grip at high RPMs. If feel like loosing it, of course slow down lah..else..RM100+ gone
then dangerous lor.. if u touch the spinning ball by accident..?... ur hand 2nd degree burns @@
if you dare stop the spinning ball with your bare hands you could get burns haha so dont touch the exposed area the purpose of the ball is to strengthen your arms, and as you use more and more, you'll be able to hit higher speeds
hohoho here's a new one, sorry pic bit blur still far from 13k...
whoa! very good score mate =D updated the list

why my powerball meter is dead? is that because of battery? how to change it? ..
dead? the battery shud be able to last 1 year + did you dropped it and it landed on the meter? try using a flat head screwdriver, pop the meter out of the body, then unscrew the rear and remove the back then take out and put the batter back in if still cannot work, try testing for the battery voltage with a multimeter first, if its near its nominal voltage, then the meter might be dead else if not, replace the battery
if your meter is dead, just go to the link i provided in front, send them a request for a meter replacement
my last finger's skin started to peel off... how did u guys hold it? finger feels damn painful
This shows that your grip still isnt that strong yet. You have to do it repetitively in a disciplined fashion to build your wrist and finger strength . Imagine the best score in the world, 16+k, how hard it is required to grip
bro daijoubu, my powerball vibrates quite obvious and quite noisy.. is it faulty or need cleaning? i only gotten it for 2 days
noisy is pretty common, but vibrates, it shouldnt if you've been gripping it hard properly if u dropped it or u've been slacking your hand while slowing down, it might start to vibrate request for a support ring replacement la from the link in my first page
bro daijoubu, i noticed my ball is spinning with an uneven sound and got some clicking. i try to open d ball, but i knock it until my hand so painful also cannot open. how leh?
bro daijoubu, i noticed my ball is spinning with an uneven sound and got some clicking. i try to open d ball, but i knock it until my hand so painful also cannot open. how leh?
This sounds like u've dropped it la . Its its like 'tak tak tak' could be caused by dropping.
U have to open the ball to clean and inspect. Have u watched the video on how to open? Make sure the screw hole one of it face down and the other face up, then curl your hand up like a fist and hammer it down on the other screw part. Make sure u hit with the softer side of the hand, not the hard wan, if not u sure pain .
Never dropped it. I followed the video and I did try to hit with the soft side of my hand. still cant open. Now the meter also not responding. I suspect d meter got damaged by heat. Coz d other day i received my package from the postman, the ball is very warm inside and d meter wasnt working until d ball cooled down.

u have to hit harder, a sudden hammering down. continue trying, it'll take a few times for u to get it
once u managed to open it up, pop out the rpm meter, and unscrew it, try to check whether the batteries are ok and whether it requires replacement same time, check whether the plastic tracks on the plastic shell has any dents or not
i'd help u open if u can come to pj
else, send it back to me, and i see what i can do to rectify the problem. i might have a replacement rpm meter somewhere here

but the meter still not ok. Took off the 6 screws and slowly align back with the batteries. Screw it back, can switch on, but it wont register any numbers. can go to nsd website to request for replacement?
btw, i noticed it is using square washer. isnt rotating axle shd use round washer? at least that is what i learn in classroom.

hehe first few times you'll feel hessitant to hit the ball hard but that plastic is made to withstand crazy forces. apparently to spoil it, you'll have to leap off a 3rd floor level and land on it . well im not gonna try to find that out, but thats what was said in the website la
anyway, the rpm meter wont register numbers you say? meaning when you spin and spin, it wont even detect the rpms, or it wont save the highest scores? what mode are you in? (what logo is the rpm meter selected)
edit : yes you can request for a replacement from nsd website . link is in my first page. just tell them your rpm meter not working they'll send a free replacement =D
Thanks for the info bro. I think the reed is spoilt. No matter what mode, it still show zero and power off after a while. Already asked for replacement.
Btw anyone know why is it square washer not round?
alright keep me updated on the parts replacement progress ya
as for the washer, that i have no idea too 0.o when i opened it i was asking myself too perhaps to prevent the washer from spinning together with the rotor? cause the washer seats inside the square hole of the support ring
Logic also, but wierd design. Btw, how long does it normally takes for them to respond to the email? Coz emailed since sunday nite until now no response.

yes you should tell them that shipping it back will cost about USD50 its way too expensive and can afford a few rpm counter already if they really insist, tell me i'll get one for u but have to wait for next shipment

daijoubu,
Hi, wish to order the Signature Series Powerball, I'm kind a "missed the train" wish to train and own of of these Powerball. When can I order, stay in KL wish to COD
bro daijobu, i had a problem with my powerball & they asked me to send back the rotor to them for replacement, from your experience, how much would the shipping cost? is it worth sending it back or should i insist on getting it replaced and not sending back? its troublesome to send back to them
hi guys..i'm new in this thing ( power ball ) last week i saw one shop sell power ball ( for beginner i think ) for rm 30. without rpm meter.my question is this basic power ball still can produce a large power compare to the expensive one ? i mean to make ur hand pain a lot.

i don't think the powerball that u saw is original. basic original powerball price around usd25 ~ rmrm80++. I have one not ori powerball, bought from fitness concept, the curve. if i not mistaken the price below rm40. back to the question, better buy the original. so much different between ori and non ori. u can read here - http://www.powerballs.com/faq.php?m=Works&id=26

i read pg1-pg2 but nobody giving a good testimonial based on muscle toning etc... pls give some comment bout this product...any changes?? are all the muscle toned??
hi bros, and hi daijoubu, sorry if i interrupt your thread, is just that i no longer use my powerball liao, so i thought that i could sell it to anyone new who is interested... pls pm me for info, im selling cheap. Thank yous!
there are so many ppl who own the powerball.. but not all posted up their scores.. i wonder if we have any who have broken the 13k mark yet.. from the looks of it i think it is possible
I got the powerball on the 24th Oct.. highest i managed to get was 10791 After 4 days of killing my hands, I hit 11145 on the 28th 10 days later I hit 11615 now after 17 days of having the powerball, my score is 11798 with the signature series.
Hope to hit 12k soon!! *grin* Will post pix once i do. 12k is my current target..
Anyway, my backhand for badminton has definitely improved!! So thanks Daijoubu for bringing this cool item in!
I'm thinking that definitely others can hit even higher scores.
So whats stopping us Malaysians from getting on a world ranking?
About it not being a talkable item.. well maybe not on the forums but when u bring it around and start spinning it and the LEDs glow...
Now thATs a great conversation starter even with strangers!! The coolness factor is quite something heheh..
Try it! Just walk around on the badminton court spinning the nice glowing powerball, smile at people, tell them what it is, let them try it and you can sell a few already..
your backhand improved? congrats! i can see that you have been keeping track of your training keep up with the discipline and u'll definately improve more and u can try using left hand traning too to increase the strength of your left hand abit of balance ma not just right hand =D
today i hit 12047... 1hz less entry into top ten.. see how in a few days..
my left hand only 10k+ need to balance hahaha
holy_devil: the thumb flick is quite easy once u get the hang of it. spin the ball with ur palm facing downwards is the easiest way to get it started at slow speeds
After about a month with my signature, my score is 10023, I could start it with my hand after about a week. And while I don't play sports I do realize that I feel less of a strain when playing with it, so I guess it means my hands are stronger?

How do you train biceps with this again? I tried just now but seems that all I can do is the forearm

Btw, spinning it on top of your shoulders stresses the biceps. Can't spin it for long that way..might be a good way to train the biceps since it's usually more focused on the forearm.
Goddamnit LOL. I'm getting old

Hey, thanks for the offer! For some reason it's working back right now It takes a couple of tries sometimes though, does this warrant for a RMA?
Uh and, how to remove the meter? I've tried but in the end the plastic material of the meter cracked without lifting the meter
Btw, new highscore Tried so many times to on the meter last night to take this score, but failed
haha no prob bro erm, try to use till its broken for certain la just in case best way to take it out is open the ball and push from inside
Ah, I see. 'cause I remember last time there was a way to clean using compressed air, which only needs to remove the meter and not the whole thing. Removing the whole thing to remove the meter in this case would be kinda pointless
my right hand yesterday pain until cannot sleep XD I take a break for now and just spin it at like 3k 4k as exercise for left hand while surfing LYN. Max left hand only 8k liddat.
*edit - gonna take a 2 day break from this addictive toy. Inner knuckles feel swollen for middle finger and pinky @.@

Also found a safe way to try maximise speed Once burst, I use my left hand (wearing my GK gloves for safety) to steady the PB.

i got a suggestion. instead of only competing on max score, why not also compete for highest sustainable score for 30 sec, 60 sec and 90 sec? this feature is already built in (the muscle icon), and i dont seen any reason why we are not competing in this section too?
maybe can try your luck, say meter rosak, last time i tell them my meter rosak, they didnt ask for proof, they want me send back, i say shipping too expensive, can get new 1, then they jst send a new meter
since no one updated this thread,i will kept updating my highscore here. my newest highscore..11103..just learned how to hold the powerball properly and spinning it without making strange sound.. maybe 12k score is within 2weeks reach..hehe..
updated..11511

Was playing in school when I did this, quickly snapped a photo with my phone just in case some of my friends accidentally reset the score, which they did
Got my PowerBall Signature series less than a week. My personal best: 11,867RPM, got it just few minutes ago.
Added on August 26, 2009, 1:27 amThanks to bro daijoubou for updating the scores! Btw, yesterday I got the same highscore of 11867 again, exact record. Got it recorded in video. I was stunned for hitting the exact number.
Hopefully I can break 12k barrier soon. LOL. Consistent with 11k range now. Left hand can only do 10k range though.

all the powerrball user here , do you think this stuff is good for dislocated wrist ?
one of my friend dislocated his wrist and went for surgery , even after the surgery the wrist not properly sitted and cant fully function yet the finger and wrist.the doctor just say do physiotherapy till the wrist and fingers can fully function.
do you think this is a good device for physiotherapy ? for wrist exercise. thx

starting the ball up requires a LOT of wrist motion, once you hit 5k RPM, the movement required is less, but the force that is applied is kinda too much for a dislocated wrist to manage.
maybe next time when it heals better you can get it for him, but definitely not right after the surgery.
Nightstalker is right. There was once I sprained my wrist, I couldn't control the powerball properly with the sprained hand. What more if it is dislocated.
But maybe if you can start the powerball with the other hand then make it spin around 3-5k rpm, then practice with both hand, using the unhurt hand as a support. Maintain at a speed that the hand can manage.

actually now is in the physiotheraphy period already 2 years from the surgery, but the improvement seems litte, so i m thinking of using this powerball to help for the exercise instead of going to hospital do the exercise programme for once every two weeks only.

if possible, try to test out a powerball yourself and decide whether is it good for him. its very hard to describe the feeling of holding and using a powerball through words, pics, and even vids.
just received my 250 pro from daijobu.. still newbie, current result is 6977.. haha.. this ball really addicting leh.. now play till my hand pain jor.. cannot continue.. let the muscle rest dulu.. wahaha..
Haha most of Powerball buyers, the first night of playing will result in aching hands tomorrow =D. It happened to me too when i got my first Powerball! Couldnt write with my right hand =.=
first day play already got blisters.. huhu... cannot get more than 9100...
Added on March 22, 2010, 7:02 pm Powerball 250Hz. hmm, it seems that i'm most comfortable spinning the powerball like how i would spin a heavy yoyo while doing loop-the-loop... though it's not so comfortable now with all the muscle aches and blisters...

dont worry about the thumb flick.. u'll get it soon enough.. at first i thought it was impossible too, but after a few practices i finally got it right.
depends on how u use it... need to spin it higher than 6K rpm constantly for about 1min+ per session if u wanna tone ur arms... and that's seriously tiring... for me at least...
Whoaaa didn't know this took off in Malaysia... I got mine back in the end of 2007. Right now my highest score is 12730 though I recalled getting a higher score than that before I accidentally reset the counter in 2008/9.
I think mine is the 250Hz version. Neon Blue.
