Ah, its been a long time since i had been here. And its V4 already..LOL.. flex.gif

Anyway, Ryo' i think you need to check the hedgie properly. If he likes to scratch, it is most probably he is having mites problem. Do look for anything moving around its body especially the quill area. Best of all, bring him to a vet to have a full checkup first. There tend to be alot of problem buying hedgie from normal breeders...
*
I've been observing him for very long time, no white dot moving around his body, no bare spot found too hmm.gif
He still very shy and stress la, if possible I don't want to make him travel again until he get use to his new house wub.gif

QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Oct 13 2007, 05:52 PM)
If hedgehog scratches alot, means mites loh.... they will only scratch alot if there are mites. Very irritating and if not cured, can cause death too.

Sometimes a hedgehog can die for many reasons, it could be some respiratory disorder, maybe liver failure? Inbreeding? Won't know until you do an autopsy....

Anyway, RIP to mochi the hedgie.....

So far mine all ok (touch wood) Hope nothing happen to them.
*
Can cause death?! Omg:shock: Actually not really scratch alot la, hmm.gif only scratch few time when he come out from the hide box and walk around, is it normal for hedgie to scratch its body? Has anyone use Frontline to cure mites before? unsure.gif

Anyway, Hun have you study zoology before, you know a lot about animals! Respect! notworthy.gif

Btw, may I know you guys feed your hedgie with what kind of cat food? I bought "Royal Canin Kitten 34" for my hedgie, is it suitable for my hedgie? The pet shop owner said it's more nutritious hmm.gif But my hedgie like it a lot though laugh.gif

Look back, we already discussed how to use Frontline... You never read the 1st page?

Anyway, certain mites can cause death.... a friend's hedgie became very sick. Brought to vet, said it was mites.... next day it died.... So... it is better to prevent and treat mites fast. If you are unsure, please go to a vet that knows how to treat hedgies.

I don't study zoology.... I wish I did LOL.... studying graphic design lah.

Royal Canin so far is ok but there are better foods..... Acana, Go Natural, Orijen, Innova.... it just depends whether your hedgie likes it or not...

She's undergoing quilling stage and it's normal. Unless bald spots start to appear then you should start worrying.

Congrats to your Donut smile.gif smile.gif

anyway i read the website this afternoon, just wanna hear opinion from you guys...

hao about the bald spot, i'm not sure...how big is the area normally if really got bald spot?
a few mm? or a few cm? unsure.gif unsure.gif unsure.gif

most websites i read today suggest bathing quilling hedgehog with Aveeno shampoo...anything similar to that in malaysia?

"Mites are easily diagnosed by a vet. If your hedgehog is scratching a lot and appears to be losing quills in a concentrated area, you need to go to the vet and have him do a skin scraping. " - bald spot at a certain spot = mite infestation?

Bald spots you can see very clearly... patches of skin without quills or very little quills.... but if say your hedgehog has mites all over, he will have sparse quills.... can see alot of skin lah.

Take a pic of your hedgie, maybe we can see if it is quilling or something else.

Anyway, mites... got many type of mites... got mange mites... normal quill mites.... mange mites need a skin scraping and microscope to see, normal mites can see with your own eyes. They look like moving dust particles.

Red eyes with white quills albino lo.... your hedgehogs do not have snowflake gene so won't produce snowflake loh.... anyway, to determine the colours, you must check the quills, eye colouration, nose colouration, skin pigmentation, facial mask colour and also the colour of the parents.

My hedgie got all the quilling symptoms hmm.gif
-lots of quills being lost
-new quills poking through the skin
-hisses and pops constantly

And the bad news is found mites on his skin too doh.gif
I've bought Frontline, but should I use it on my hedgie if he already start quilling? As I know quilling make hedgie's skin become tender and sore, I worry if I apply Frontline will make it worse, please advice smile.gif
