Maxis call-in

- Maxis technician confirm they're patching the towers. The first patch they tried doesn't work. They received a new patch and will upload it within days.

firmware - the OS for your iPhone. Come with 1.0.0 -> 1.0.1 -> 1.0.2 -> 1.1.1
IMEI - take it as a ID number for your iPhone, unique for each iPhone, printed on box & back of iPhone. don't simply expose this to public.
unlock - free your iPhone from AT&T (or Apple partnered telco), to use any phone card.
jailbreak - activation without iTunes/sign-up for contract.
revirginise/virginiser - returning your iPhone to factory setting the complete way. Very important for 1.0.2 -> 1.1.1.
IPSF - short for iPhone SIM Free, a paid software for unlcoking.
geohot - hardware unlock method, involve opening you iPhone & soldering.
AnySIM - a free unlock software (current version for 1.1.1).

I just got my iPhone, it's already unlock any advice?
- Cool, head over to Apple.com/iphone and learn about your new toy. Takes the advice, do not do something stupid like install all the apps into your iPhone without knowing what they are & do not update your iPhone untill you see everyone does it.

Where to buy iPhone?
- Many shop carry it in Malaysia. Standby to pay for it. Or import it from US yourself.

Will I get warranty from Apple Malaysia or Other reseller?
- No until we get official iPhone in Malaysia.

When will iPhone come to Malaysia?
- No idea when.
But my friend told me it is XX of 2008.
- Official announcement is Asia for 2008. For Apple, "Asia" cover Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan & some big country. They never mention Malaysia @ 2008. Wait if you like to.

Will I get warranty after unlock?
- Yes & no. Hardware unlock = no. Software unlock = return to original factory form, then you can get warranty.

But you said warranty no in Malaysia?
- Yes. Send it back to US.

Will I get Tax if import iPhone?
- Yes, most likely you will, if you send it via postal or courier.
- No, most unlikely if you have contact carry it back from US.

How much I need to pay for taxes?
- 6-8% n US (the USD399 are not include tax)
- Malaysia customs charge RM40-60
- SIRIM charge RM200-300
to be save, standby RM300 for 1 unit if your shipment held by KLIA.

How to unlock?
- there's many way to do it, many guides available. it's only recommended if you're tech savvy, have some programming/command prompt skill.

Will I brick my iPhone?
- yes if you're not sure what you're doing.

My iPhone is running slower as space running low, how come?
- iPhone is running Mac OS 10.4, the rules is to have at lease 10% free space for OS & Apps caching & tmp files.

How do I upload files to my iPhone?
- setup SSH. Install Open SSH via Installer.app.
In Mac, use FTP client that support SFTP (cyberduck, transmit & fetch).
In PC use WinSCP.

How to have ringtones without paying iTunes?
- For Mac, use iToner

How to change my icons?
- the easiest way is to use theme.
- if you're a photoshop guru or dislike the theme available & would like to DIY, most of the icon file are in .png format in the /Applications folder inside each .app folder.
For example stock icon are inside /Application/Stock.app/ folder with name icon.png. There are some icon that name differently, like camera, photos & ipod.

1 - How to unlock: Go to the Unlocking section of hackint0sh forum. Two options, AnySIM (1.1.1) or iUnlock (1.0.2).
For details on how to use AnySim or iUnlock, plus myriad other options, go here.

2 - How to restore your iPhone when your iPhone freezes after installing non-supported 3rd party applications. My own personal advice? Download all the available firmware images files in .ipsw format , so that you have the choice of restoring to a particular firmware when needed to. Press ALT in iTunes when initiating a restore to choose which firmware file to restore to. Download all possible iPhone firmware/ system OS restores files here.

3 - How to customise your iPhone, currently two solutions, they are Summerboard and Customise, both apps can be downloaded via Installer.app, iFuntastic on Mac or iBrickr on WinXP. Personal preference? Summerboard. Themes are downloadable via Installer.app on your iPhone.

4 - How to sync songs, photos and contacts to your iPhone. This can easily be referred to the downloadable iPhone User Guide in PDF form, download it here.

5 - How to re-enable your Youtube once you have gone through the entire unlocking process. The unlocking process either patches or rewrtie the baseband file, which disables, among other things, the Youtube on your iPhone. 7 - How to do instant messenging (MSN, ICQ, iChat, YahooIM) on your iPhone? Pick your poison, either via webpage or native. For webpage method, go to www.meebo.com & www.ebuddy.com, for native IM app, look for ApolloIM on your Installer.app

8 - How to turn your iPhone into a light saber? Look for iSaber on your iBrickr. iSaber will not appear on your Installer.app

9 - How to simulate GPS-like functions on your iPhone - use Navizon GPS. Careful, this app had frozen my iPhone twice.

10 - How to download and listen to podcasts without syncing to iTunes? Get MobileCast from your Installer.app

11 - How to turn off your EDGE separately? Get "Services" from your Installer.app. Default function in 1.1.1.

12 - How to upload , share and download any type of file using your iPhone? Get iShare from your Installer.app

some feedback which i dun like on iphone is couldnt sms to many person in a msg, i hav to send my one by one...de msg oso cant be forward out like normal phone....

and 1 thing i notice in iphone, when u sending out a mail, it will a pharse written there:

Yea, and you can't delete just one msg. Instead, you have to delete the whole conversation at once.

guys, i got some problem here. I sync my contact from N73 to Outlook and after i sync Outlook punya contact (using iTune) with iphone, i still cant find any contact under "phone" or "sms" even after i restart my iphone anyone encounter this before? i sync it while my maxis simcard is in iphone. do i need to take out the simcard and sync?

this is also maxis limitation, maxis cannot do "DIVERT ALL" feature .. tats y when ppl call to maxis+iphone that time, kena DO RE MI .. and then wont do the divertion

Good news, Maxis customer support called me today and say that they have received their iphones and that they are working on fixing the problem. They actually responded to my online complaint! Kudos to them.

Hopefully we should have a fix soon!

just received chinese sms from friends..can read perfectly!! i send a few chinese songs to my iphone and it can read the title just the way i want!!..im lovin it!!!

Haha.. I got a tricks to make unsupported new celcom 3G postpaid card to be use in IPhone.. Just finish testing.. But not so got news is, if you power off the iphone you need to do it again...

Okay, 1st step put atnt sim card (or any working simcard, digi, maxis) n power on.. Wait till got some signat bar / no network (i think) display..

2. Go to setting, carrier. If will search for network. (if no carier show, go back home and wait a while). wait till all 3 network found.

3. Press power button (put iphone on standy NOT OFF).

4. Replace the simcard with celcom.

5. Press power button. You will see the network list. Choose celcom and go home.. Never enter carrier menu again.

Note: on step 5 you need to unlock (keying sim card pin) 1st if you enable the sim lock.



Tested and working.... If poweroff need to do it again.
