Skim coat is a lot of work, 5k for whole house is considered cheap.
But the wall will be scratched easily and very visible due to the smooth surface.
An alternative I can think of, you can selectively skim coat only certain feature walls.

Personally I don't really care if my wall is not smooth, you just have to be careful with your lighting. Have fun!

i self skim all of my landed properties interior. I used aluminium shaft, and you need to buy the materials too. it is hard work very back breaking. but smooth surface. down is easy to do, if you have high walls go hire someone to do it.

Hello,

I am renovating my house. Previously, my contractor quote me an amount to paint my whole house wall. Now he said my wall is not smooth, want to charge me additional RM5000 to smoothen my wall.

Is it normal that contractor charges us separately the smoothing part when he also quoted me separately me for painting and construct new walls?

Does RM5000 make sense for a 22 x 75 house.

I feel like it's too expensive and mcm kena up car like that.

RM15-25/m2 internal wall
RM30-40/m2 external wall
Plastering, RM10-15/m2

why the heck do you need to smoothen your walls?
usually the smoothing is done by the wet works (cement work) contractor. did your old wet work contractor run away?

rm5k is a lot. if he is saying the whole house punya wall all rough and not smooth, what the fuk? how did that happen? is it really all rough cement or just slightly not smooth?

Smoothing wall is not part of painting works.

If you do not mind it to look curvy not smooth then ok to proceed to paint.

no right or wrong. i guess if you don't want to pay, he still can paint the walls with the original price.

typically, what they mean is, the wall is not smooth enough, after you paint, you still see some imperfection.

What for need to smooth the wall? I thought naturally its almost impossible to smooth the wall or is not worth it. Just paint it je lah…

If got a crack area i just use putty je to tampal and smoothen it and paint over it

Usually not smooth if previously did patching work to cover hairline crack or dug hole for wiring but wasn't done properly. If you are DIY enough, can buy the wall plastering cement usually it has a number 333 and then mix that with susu (hardware shop will know what is this). That is probably what they will do with that 5K. Then they will sand it off after it dries. Before applying the paint, they will apply the sealer layer for 2-3 coat. Just check your wall whether there's a lot of surface that look like majority of the guys face here.
