I am renovating my house. Previously, my contractor quote me an amount to paint my whole house wall. Now he said my wall is not smooth, want to charge me additional RM5000 to smoothen my wall.

Is it normal that contractor charges us separately the smoothing part when he also quoted me separately me for painting and construct new walls?

Does RM5000 make sense for a 22 x 75 house.

I feel like it's too expensive and mcm kena up car like that.

not sure how many sqft exactly.  living room, stairs area, bedrooms.

smooth surface aka skim coat is usually different scope of work liao, unless stated clearly during initial stage

And some skim coat got special ion or energy saving claim that can cool the whole house. Maybe he using it haha.

those thin plaster? waste money only to me because those can easily be scratched.

but if we are talking cement one, then different story.

nope,.. there special skimming material,.. i forgot the name liao,.. go hardware shop they will tell u,... i tried DIY b4,.. not very nice job with my un-skill hand,..

skim coat la tu.
similar to how people did to plaster ceiling. but plaster ceiling less hand touched, compared to the wall, higher tadency kana touched, so the durability of those wall is a concern.

last time also i ask tukang, said better just redo plaster cement if you want really good result, but yeah need to fork out tons of money la, especially if existing wall were using cement bricks.

Always get 2nd quote. But skimming job for RM5000 can be an overkill. Skimming task normally simpler than painting because they use machine. But very messy because of the residue from the skimming job
