they still train for dogfight jic. thats why the brits still put asraam on their F-35s.
legacies will want to close in when they can. a) it will need to be closer to detect 5g, b) missiles also need to be closer to lock.

used to be but after all the budget issue, murica forced to turn F-35 into a ferrari with all the bells and whistles. murica may get many things wrong but one thing they understand is how to design and operate fighters qnd train fighter pilots.

F-35 vs Gripen more like BMW vs Perodua. More than double the horsepower, everything inside substantially more advanced. Not many people realise but the computing power and software capabilities are substantially more advanced than even the F-22 for a simple reason, date of manufacture. This especially with the latest TR upgrade. The closest in that respect ironically is the F-15EX.

the difference is doctrine. in layman terms, the difference is how its used.
assault guns are generally infantry tanks. they follow infantry to support. the guns are normally low velocity firing he rounds. tanks are spearheads, normally carrying high velocity guns. got turret, no turret affect cost of tank but trade off need to move tank to point gun in different direction. turretless easier to build and used more for defence. doctrinal changes eg offense better than defence moves most armies to turreted tanks. |

Per PAC report on LCS, original cost was RM9.128b but only RM6.006b incurred. Add RM2.098b to complete 5 means RM5.22b required to complete 5. Average cost per unit RM2.245B.
Timeline: Complete design by Aug 2024. LCS 1: Launch May 2024, Delivery Aug 2026 (current construction status: 60.74%) LCS 2: Launch May 2025, Delivery Apr 2027 (current construction status: 48.09%) LCS 3: Launch Jan 2026, Delivery Dec 2027 (current construction status: 43.75%) LCS 4: Launch Sep 2026, Delivery Aug 2028 (current construction status: 36.49%) LCS 5: Launch May 2027, Delivery Apr 2029 (current construction status: 22%) LCS 6 construction status 0%. Equipment to be used for other LCS. Hence LCS 6 buy was dropped. |

Under 15-5 plan, 2016-2025 bajet suppose to fund 2 MRSS, 6 LCS and 10 LMS. 2016-2024 have now only funded 5 LCS (to be delivered after 2023) and 7 LMS (4 of which have been delivered). 2025 bajet will need to fund 2 MRSS and 3 LMS to meet the expected plan.
RMN is forced to re-hull old ships and keep these obsolete ships in service. These include 14 FACs (6 Jerong, 4 Handalan and 4 Perdana class) which are between 44-51 years old. 6 Corvettes (4 Laksamana and 2 Kasturi class) which are 40 years old, of which the 15 year service life extension for Kasturi class was completed in 2013/2014 ie end of service life inkambing 2028/2029. 18 of the 20 above are gun-armed only. The Kasturi class are armed with shorter ranged Block 2 Exocet missiles, now outranged by most modern (and old harpoon) missiles. Similar to the Kasturi class, the lekiu is only armed with Block 2 exocets. The new vessels (6 Kedah OPV + 4 Keris class LMS) are also gun-armed only. Consider that even the smallest vessels in the Chinese Navy (eg Type 022 or 056 corvettes) are minimally armed with YJ-83s with 180-230km range. The larger warships are even more deadly. Effectively, the Malaysian Navy will get slaughtered in a conventional war with any of its neighbours at this time. The worst part is instead of standing together with neighbours to face common threats, some politicians are so politically naive in creating new issues eg export bans which disincentivise standing together. LCS despite all is shortcomings will at least provide a longer reach with the naval strike missile but these are invisible ships and even in service will barely be able to cope with the smallest ships of the PLA navy. The Malaysian navy's surface fleet is fully, not partly, obsolete. |

Patrol Craft (PC) Ex-SUNDANG Selesai Refit https://defense-studies.blogspot.com/2023/1...esai-refit.html QUOTE KUALA TERENGGANU - Panglima Logistik Barat, Laksamana Pertama Ts. Sipandan class patrol vessel. KM Segantang (ex-sundang pennant 3133) was one of 15 transferred to MMEA from 2006. Now refitted. Ex-Panah should be KM Kukup (pennant 3135). HangPC2 liked this post

Konfrontasi was born out of a fear for an independent Malaya. Today Malaysia is a fact accepted by all parties.
History should be consigned to where it belongs. ASEAN cooperation is the reality of today. There is enough common desire for peace in the region to facilitate trade which is key to economic prosperity. Don't rock the boat. |
