Hi guys, need help to decide which bike should i buy. Just got my bfull license,the bike is just for fun ride.

D400 probably for touring
Duke 250 and mt25 is probably in the same category.

You can't go wrong with all of this choice.

Best way is to test and sit on the bike. And choose which suits you

MT25 definitely. simply foir the fact that it should be more reliable than the problematic KTMs and Modenas bikes.

if u have more cash can look into bigger used > 650cc bikes and utilize ur b full.

D400 definitely not for fun but good enough to go highway speed (110-140km/h) ~

Instead Dominar why not look at those Chinese bikes.. like Benelli or CFMoto.. since those also within range 20 to 30k ..

same here,never rode a bike before and just got my Bfull license. Contemplating getting a smaller CC bike as first bike.

first bike to ride on roads using sport bike not easy especially when reacting to emergency
better more upright better to react, even if bigger cc also is ok

during emergency, imagine u brake, and clutch, and trying to steer
when engine die if hard brake during emergency without clutch, will ABS still work? I dunno honestly

imagine with sitting upright, and you can control the steering better without pressing the body on there

that's why daily bike with sport bike, can or not, the answer is can, but which one easy to deal with traffic and emergency, definitely sportbike not the easiest

unless you very very good with sport bike, core strength and back all very tahan, when u sit on sport bike eventhough bongkok, but the forearm never press weight on steering, then yes, maybe u can do much better

These 3 bikes are pretty much in a different segment, also quite a big gap in price point.

1. MT-25, fun torqish bike, reliable but not cheap.
2. Dominar 400, cheapest on the list, comes with all the modern blings, but slightly unrefined.
3. Duke 250.... id suggest just skip the 250 and go for 390. RC/Duke 390 runs same engine platform as D4(or more like D4 is based on 390), but with transmission ratio that focusses more on torque/early power deliveries.


Hence its important to properly learn riding techniques, touring upright or crouching on sporty stance, if you are putting weight on your forearms, you're riding wrong. Whenever you emergency brake on any bikes, you must first remove any pressure on arms and keep yourself stable gripping your tank with your knees. Putting more pressure on your handle bar loads up your fork, and emergency braking is 70% about how much rebound and how much your shock can take before it bottoms out, and hence you dont want any weight if possible on the handlebars.

Theres a weird thing goin on in malaysia riding culture, majority of the people are "lazy" to upgrade their license and stick with under 250cc, hence all the glorified 250cc. Expand your search abit further, you'd realise the pricing isnt that big a gap and you get better returns with 400/600+cc bikes. Personally id stay away from 250cc(practicality wise) if you already own a bfull to begin with.

Depends on what sorts of rides you want to do, or what geng you join.


250s are fun. They are light and very tossable. But I wouldn't categorize them as very "highway capable". Even the Dominar is marginal at best on the highway. It will do the speed, but you wont do it in comfort, say anything past 130-140. You will likely grow bored of the 250 very quickly. But they are easy to ride starter bikes due to it being lightweight.


Solution, just get ANY cheap used bike, ride for a year, then get a larger bike later once you know what you want.

ZZR Bro got a real Lemon of a Dominar. But some of us find it quite ok. I put 20k on mine in one year. Caveat Emptor.

Personally, I would stay away from R25 or Mt-25. They're the same engine.. Tuned differently sure, but the parts are the same. Issues are most likely the same.. With the teh ais engine oil, code 46, hard plastic gear bearing.. I see tonnes of R25 in the used market but definitely won't be interested in getting one.

partly I would say some couldn't afford higher cc's. Can't afford to maintain, hence the sambung bayar culture also. Can pay the downpayment for a B-full bike, but then couldn't afford to pay the instalment afterwards.

Also because of the power of the 'L' license in malaysia. Go get an 'L', stick it to your bike and you're good to go. I've seen a guy on a z800, with L sticker, just zig zagging around on the Federal Highway, rev-bombing people for not giving way to him then points a middle finger.

So some people see there's no point in getting a B Full when a L can just get them the same thing..

How much of a difference in cost of maintenance between a 600cc and a 250cc though?

I only know tyres probably are the biggest difference due to jump in size.

dominar- touring, top speed not so much, cheap price, cheap maintenance

duke 250 - street ride quite good, but not so much on highways. single cylinder, parts quite expensive, maintenance wise so2

mt25- 2 cylinder engine, but bad things is, this bike is not about torque at all. because using same engine as r25, its more sporty engine where u need to rev the engine kaw2 to get the good torque. all the power is came from high rpm. maintenance also normal, not cheap and also not expensive. good on highways.

so choose which ride style u like.

Don’t know la, I cincai say only. I thought bottom out shock during emergency braking is weird means you brake backwards? Or are you try to wheelie while doing emergency braking so can bottom out the shock?

Buy the bike that you really like, and that you won’t mind fixing it if anything bad happens.
Rather than a bike that you expect to be very reliable, but breaks down randomly unexpectedly and you get frustrated.

This above does not apply to Italian bikes because they are meant to break down anyway so it’s the joy you get when they don’t.

CFMoto can take a look also la. Ninja 250 also have its issues.

Some ppl memang plan to JT or sambung bayar the day letak dp for bike. Use few months, then pass to others la. Cannot pass then piang. Facebook also got ppl teach the procedure to piang bike.

600cc to 250cc if we say same brand like kawasaki (ninja 250, ninja 650, ZX6R), or Yamaha (R25, R6)
I would say the parts are 4x more…

For EO, I would use RM40 per bottle for 250cc, but if 600cc, I’d say RM80 per bottle…

Where's CFMoto from? I usually don't trust all these copy cats brands though.

damn if 4x more than it is still tough to maintain if don't have the budget..

CFMoto from China assembled locally, u don't have to buy, but can search for owners club and tune in. you have a point, so make sure their service center is nearby.

I'm one of the owner of KTM Duke 250, let me share you my personal experiences bought the bike during 2018 but broke down 2 weeks after ride and on and off to factory for almost a years, ABS system issue, replaced board, cable but same issue.
the problem still cant be fixed which cause ABS CAN error on and off so i ignored it since already past warranty.

1. Spare parts expensive compare to others brands
2. Services center charges 220 to 250MYR
3. Long journey cause butt pain (more than 1 hours ride)
4. Single cylinder so can't even win some normal bike
5. Clutch TAP sound loud when you enter gear

Overall bad experience and i'm not a biker so i'm not really familiar with bike. just use it for daily work ride.
