The automotive industry is filled with so many stories of design fails.

totally agree man! the on diff would be, whether it takes more time or less. its not like everyone is going uphill every single day  bruce.gif

Yes, carmakers design their products based on the widest use case. People don't usually carry full load up at 17 degree slope as demonstrated in the video.

The video simply showed an extreme example that exceeded the car's capability. Every car is built to a cost, there will always be limitations.

Anyway, I don't think there are many 17 degrees slope in Malaysia, so no worries.

If kapchai/kancil can climb it, am sure this Alza can.

Yes, we can say, not everyday we facing 17° degree slopes in Malaysian daily road...
However it's make sense that P-2 car really under power as it's tuned for daily and durability usage...

I've been owning 2 type of P-2 model, which more then 26 year, as one of the unit I've converted to Turbocharger engine...

The others one remain original...
But don't expect much, as you pay what you gets...
But still P-2 car are most durable & reliable among others brand ...

Got my Alza (H series) allocated, hopefully can pick up this Saturday. Test drove it today, more stable than the old Alza and the 2nd gen myvi. Spacing in middle row is good, back row still sempit.

Tested today, drives like a 2nd gen Vios. Doors and boot feels extremely flimsy but engine output surprisingly enough grunt to go slight uphill with 5 onboard. The back row is not sempit, quite ok if middle row adjusted midway and felt quite at ease after spending 15 min at the back (178cm tall)

However am extremely turned off by thd hugh engine bay gap.
Do you guys intend to cover it up?

Agree on the back row. For short distances I think will have no issue (give and take a bit with middle row people) even for tall passengers. Of course not Penang drive.

What's the disadvantage of that gap? Not really a car person, but for me... not visible from outside, does it matter?

I mean, I come from Saga BLM (2008) and Alza (2009), but driving the car this morning (received yesterday) did not notice wind noise at 100 km/h. Will try to pay attention when on highway next time.

Anyway if anyone got question for the new Alza can ask. I got the H variant. Pretty happy with it so far, size and handling wise (definitely handles better than old Alza).

Middle or back? Currently am using it in my 'default Alza' configuration, which is move the middle row all the way back, and back row used for storage (my children's bikes etc.). Both my primary age boys use booster seat.

Comparison to Saga/old Alza, more leg room for middle (when fully push back). Easy for them to sit in their booster seat and still have their roller-school-bag at their feet. Much easier than my Saga (A-class ma), and even the family MyVi I was using for a while. The extra length makes a difference.

The middle seat between two boosters can sit a relatively slim adult too, but wouldn't recommend for long distance.

For now no real-world experience with the last row (except for the test drive) so won't comment yet. I do plan to do a jalan-jalan drive with family and put my boys at the back, so will have a better idea then.

There is no competition below 100K

Exora is too old and Xpander is priced at Veloz level.

Veloz would be the "competition". Based on brand and the slightly more features (telescopic steering etc). Price conscious people won't pay the 20k premium though for sure. Brand conscious might.
