i'm looking to buy a new car, i shortlisted these few cars

Altis 1.8, Subaru XV, Proton x70, Mazda CX-5, and Civic 2022. I've test drove most, except for CX-5(mid-spec, high spec way above my budget already) and Civic 2022.

My requirements are fairly simple, I need space for family (not big, currently 3 adults, and maybe 1 kid in the future), daily work commuting of about 30km per trip, and some outstation traveling for holiday (this is before pandemic, so probably will resume this after pandemic is eased).

What I am looking at for this new car

1. reliability, this is why a pre-owned passat did not get shortlisted even though a pre-owned is somewhere 120k
2. good driving experience on highway, I'm currently driving a myvi 1.5 and i really hate the feeling on highway when traveling even at 130km/h, so my new car i'm expecting it to be firm and stable at those speed with good nvh, i've tested City and Vios and both doesn't satisfy me for this, this is why i am looking at Seg C, or even Seg D.
3. fuel consumption, i know i can't compare this with my current myvi, but i don't want a fuel guzzler at the end of the day that creates a hole in my pocket.
appreciate any comments and suggestions.

1. no comment
2. any car other than Proton Saga , Myvi, have way better driving experience. u want Segment C and D , it gonna cost u more than RM110k for sure. get an accord or civic.
3. Fuel consumption wise , if u opt for Seg c and d , it will be 10km/l in highway max. u want good FC, only seg B can fulfill u ...

there is good FC car in Seg c and seg d car....when u worry about FC, i assume u need to look into car maintenance cost as well, especially after 5yrs....

My suggestion is that you go with a SUV.
That narrows your choices to Subaru XV and Mazda CX5.
Both are very comfortable with good NVH reduction.
If you prefer a more stylish car, my choice would be Mazda CX5.

Wait for Corolla Hybrid which is highly likely to be released next year

Or you can just test drive the Corolla Cross Hybrid soon since you are open to SUVs in your choices

no problem with fuel consumption for subaru xv

Easy 700km - 850km without using the whole 60L

7.5L - 8.5L / 100km ? ?? should be around that

The last time i test drove a subaru xv was my friend's car. He was in another state so he let me drive to send/ his wife to work

There is one time i filled around 59L. Traveled around 850km

But average i fill up every 50L - 55L ... Distance is always around More than 650km

---------------------------------------

Also want to say since subaru xv have excellent ground clearance . It is actually very good for off road
Ever have that feeeling to avoid those stone blocks or those low dividers beside near the parking area? Dont worry about it... i even try to climb over it lol. No harm done to vehicle at all ...

The X MODE helps a lot even though it is not that *awesome* like a 4x4 but it does the job well. Funny thing is no wheel spin or slip problems

I would change to all terrain tires if it was my car and lift it with ironman suspension drool.gif

Trust me, if you have small kids, consider boot space and yes sedan should provide sufficient foe luggage..

Once you child have grown up, a SUV shoulf be fine

or you can just het the base model X70 at 89k and use the savings from lower installments to pay for fuel.
Base model x70 seems to tick all of the boxes.

Overall on your list Forester have good visibility compare to other, modern uncle looks exterior if you have very good diy mechanic skills can order part directly from japan without via local Subaru after out of warranty

Is okay go for turbo variant, as usual most driver afraid of boxer legendary issue, but if you like it can maintain it won't be issue

Most common issue if you search at google

Subaru uses the Boxer engine which has a horizontal design and pistons lay flat in the cylinder. When the engine is turned off, the fluids tend to pool next to the head gaskets instead of draining, and over time acids in the fluids eat away at the seals. The gaskets deteriorate and oil and coolant fluids start leaking

If you not a Subaru master race just avoid about it,

Stay far2 away from a X70/geely. Don't take my word. Go to the x70 facebook group, multiple gearbox issues a day. Almost guaranteed to get a broken radiator fan motor. The people are frustrated where even small parts could take weeks or even months to be replaced.

Well, i am driving the 1st gen of Xv using FB20 engine. Already over 6 years with 170k, with proper maintenance no issue with the head gaskets. Some member also over 200k without issues. If your saying the previous old EJ generation, maybe yes but that also been solve with new gasket design & material change. You need to ask real owner or mechanic which deal Subaru cars to know. icon_idea.gif

I dont recall the official dealer bring in Turbo version of Forester. Unless if you say AP car dealer then it would be different story all together.
