i'm looking to buy a new car, i shortlisted these few cars

Altis 1.8, Subaru XV, Proton x70, Mazda CX-5, and Civic 2022. I've test drove most, except for CX-5(mid-spec, high spec way above my budget already) and Civic 2022.

My requirements are fairly simple, I need space for family (not big, currently 3 adults, and maybe 1 kid in the future), daily work commuting of about 30km per trip, and some outstation traveling for holiday (this is before pandemic, so probably will resume this after pandemic is eased).

What I am looking at for this new car

1. reliability, this is why a pre-owned passat did not get shortlisted even though a pre-owned is somewhere 120k
2. good driving experience on highway, I'm currently driving a myvi 1.5 and i really hate the feeling on highway when traveling even at 130km/h, so my new car i'm expecting it to be firm and stable at those speed with good nvh, i've tested City and Vios and both doesn't satisfy me for this, this is why i am looking at Seg C, or even Seg D.
3. fuel consumption, i know i can't compare this with my current myvi, but i don't want a fuel guzzler at the end of the day that creates a hole in my pocket.

appreciate any comments and suggestions.

If you want space and stable on highway, go for Subaru XV or Mazda CX-5. Both are good buy in their segment.

when you say 3 adults I assume one is older generation? civic might be too low down for them to get on and off.
where as SUV is high up.

if that is your consideration as well.

I'm driving MyVi 1.5 and Forester 2.0

On same stretch of road going to office. I probably get 20km/L (or 5L/100km) with MyVi and 6L/100km with Subaru, if you talk about fuel saving.

1. Reliability: Most Jap made is quite reliable
2. Driving experience at 130km/h. D seg sedan then follow by C seg sedan.
3. FC: Sedan

So it is between Altis and upcoming civic 2022.

Note: ur criteria no. 2 and 3 lean more to sedan since they r lighter and more aerodynamic

Toyota corolla cross hybrid.
Just freshly open for booking.
Realibility might still be in question since new model and fresh new batch ckd.
Everything else mostly matured tech that already ironed out all fault lol.

XV interior is just marginally bigger than a myvi.

may not be suitable for family of 3+1.

See if you prefer sedan or SUV, I tried sat on Altis, headroom is bad to me brushing my hair at rear seat.

SUV wise Although Subaru XV came with 2.0 engine, but fuel economy is pretty decent for its weight and engine displacement + AWD, Forester 2.0 I had driven got better FC than X50 for similar drive, and this car really stable with its Boxer engine low center of gravity design, only shortfall to me is not well equipped with active safety feature they promised previously, and many here hate Tan Chong a lot for some reason I'm not so sure of.

Mine to also share why X50 not in your list since you have considered XV?

In general highway speed sedan sure better than SUV, but SUV nowadays are pretty well built to cater high speed, except the very light build Ativa will not do well above highway speed.

there were 2 reasons why i ruled out x50, 1. extremely long waiting 2. wind noise is surprisingly loud at 140kmh

Estima, X70, X50, Wish, Altis.

I would say Altis is the best choice but it would be abit cramped when u travel long distance with a baby. very hard to feed milk or keep the baby entertained.

Its better to get a bigger space car like X70, X50, or Wish.
If got budget can go for Estima or Alphard, Vellfire more comfort.

Yeah really long waiting time,
For Wind Noise haven't tested 140km/h, however I tried 120km/h for recently collected model, seems like wasn't there anymore, just left with reasonable "Flub flub flub" wind noise which is reasonable at that speed for SUV(Comparing with Subaru Forester), not like those reviewer claimed "High Pitch" noise.
