QUOTE(Gold_Moderator @ Oct 28 2021, 12:39 AM) https://www.blizzarddr.com/western-digital-...-drives-inside/ this could help. just google the drive modal number, make sure it matches.Thing is, even if its WD, a usb controller that can't handle ntfs is not worth having around. Also i suspect the drive is SMR which even from my experience is usually terrible and i'm not talking about the write speeds but rather the reliability. I know WD won't have the same reliability issue where a faulty usb connection on seagate can cause the drive firmware to be corrupted where you lose all your data and have to do a super long raw drive read to recover it, then reinstall the firmware. Quite a hassle when it goes wrong. Drive manufacturers do have a different design for SMR such as including large buffers and a better CPU controller, but i suggest checking WD's SMR drive reliability. Seagate ones are crap and this would be a first if WD actually designed a good circuit. In the past WD did make good drive that you could modify, but they killed that and sold lesser quality drives, and did a silent SSD flash swap on their WD blue SSD, but not sure if they did it on their other SSDs too. Basically they swaped TLC with QLC< didn't update the product or price. While i would put WD's SMR drives to be better than seagate, its still a WD. |

Sorry to see you've experienced this, especially on your first purchase online.
A friendly advise for future online purchases, you could double check the pricing of your WD with official online stores. If the price difference is too low/too good to be true, its probably fake. There are a few obvious signs that the store you've bought from are fake, 1. Low price for 2TB, compared to official WD stores. 2. Random generated store name. 3. Young store age, store was created 2 months ago. 4. Numerous 1 Star review stating similar symptoms of fake WD HDD. If you haven't released the payment to the seller (by clicking the ORDER RECEIVED button), you may dispute together with Shopee to retrieve your money back for receiving a fake product. |

QUOTE(Gold_Moderator @ Oct 28 2021, 03:57 AM) first of all, i thought he is local seller, so i make a purchase without further checking. this is the way bill i received. lol. Sadly these scams are common and are if they get reported just rinse and repeat the link you've sent is now dead so they have probably closed up shop and created new shop under new name Looking up details, the address looks chinese, claims to have shipped from johor yet comes from Puchong it seems? Anyways, to be careful in the future
my rules are 1. disregard whatever 100% authentic lowest price guranteed 5 star 5k reviews whatever, there are many listings with great reviews but are scams (currently 2nd result on shopee for hdd is a paid ad for a fake seagate drive with 1.7k sold and 4.6 star reviews) 2. read 1 star reviews and look for h2testw screenshots or review manipulation (eg, review 5 stars and rm1 off voucher, warranty or whatever) 3. be suspicious about poorly translated english 4. check what the seller sells also, there might be larger red flags like 1tb huawei cards, 512gb cards for cheap, or products that no longer exist like samsung hdds 5. be suspicious about too many free gifts (usb card reader for example) 6. see how long the seller has been selling for 7. see seller's language in response to 1 star reviews, sometimes they are quite aggressive (claim you're a competitor) 8. stick to trusted sellers or go out and buy physically at a store 9. notice keyboard spam shop names 10. notice 00000 postcode It's not just HDDs, got fake ssds, usb drives, microsd cards, cables and more, so you always have to be careful Anyways wish TS best of luck in getting refund back, also, if seller tells you to return product, fight for it cause they will give you invalid address that you can not return to As for the drive, technically it can be reprogrammed to show it's true capacity but it requires some technical work This post has been edited by PRSXFENG: Oct 28 2021, 08:07 PM |
