Any users of the new RTD1619DR chipset care to share user experience?

Are Zidoo box still facing buggy firmwares?

I used to own a X9S few years back (more than 2yrs ago)...
1. I like:-
a. Home Theater 2.0 (This is bestest and I've seen the new HT 4.0 hnnngggghhh version)
b. Picture Quality
c. Subtitle colour


2. I dislike:-
a. Fast forwarding is too slow...it's like every 1 min (compared to Himedia boxes where it goes very fast till end of movie and this is my main turn off especially point 3 whereby the movie drops out and i need to start watching again and FF is taking too long)
b. Startup time
c. Buggy firmwares where while watching movies sometimes it just drops out
d. rmvb files can't open (not too big deal)


Since now Himedia don't launch new models, I'm inclined with the new Zidoo boxes to test out the Dolby Vision setting. Price of Z9X so expensive now

I have been using Z9s since 2018 or so
currently on HT4.0 and Music player 6.0

I don't face the FF issues, as I very seldom use that
No issues with start up time
So far no drops out from movie, ranging from std 1080p to Full UHD iso
I dont do RMVB files either

How much is the Z9x?
I read the DV is good though

i m at a loss as to what to buy upgrade to next too.

z9x is probably a good bet for both video and audio playback, from what i read and hear.

but it is the other lesser features like navigation, control, android apps compatibility that may bear u down.

i never had a zidoo but had a couple of AC Ryans back in the day - realtek chipsets are good, no doubt.

perhaps we have to accept we can't have it all in one device/box.

even now, i am using 5 boxes - on 3 TVs/home theaters - for various purposes - local playback, astrogo, china apps included.

i still hope himedia will launch a worthy successor to the mighty Q10pro!

I remember I had an AC Ryan playon those days, super un-utilised , just for the sake of playing RMVB files hahahha

navigation n control no issues for the zidoo, personally for me, I prefer it over q10 pro, more user frenly

but android apps compatibility tat one I cannot advice, I never really use it

hi media android apps for me, not tat usable for my usage, DS video, DS file not stable, kept log out
navigation also not usable for me
Disney hotstar couldnt get it to work

AC Ryan POHD was the best there was at that time, i really loved it.

bought a mini too!

years later, i saw that himedia cud do more... so i sold both of them, decent prices too!

there is no perfect box for everyone... which is why we need choices... and choices are now rather limited.

Z9X is around RM700+ now, used to be RM800+

FF bugs me at that time because of movie drop outs and also sometimes stop watching halfway and can't resume (need to start from beginning). Himedia at that time don't have this issue but the firmware was facing some subtitle issues which was resolved with later firmware.

I liked the X9S Home Theatre no doubt, picture quality and subtitle colour but at that time the firmware was somewhat depressing...so thinking maybe by now no more such firmware issues.



Yes, himedia is like dead quiet now. I really like the Himedia boxes in general but that Zidoo Home Theatre 2.0 was really nice to use. Now with HT 4.0 and DVLL, that's why it's tempting. Plus....9.9 sales is just around the corner

I guess there's no perfect boxes. I'm still happy with my Himedia box just want to see whether any user reviews that may finally push me to get one. lol

POHD was super for me, excellent for local playback, not so good for streaming.

passed them to someone, sold them at mudah or something.

boxes, i have used only 3 brands - AC Ryan in the beginning, now Himedia and Tanix.

my needs are simple - local payback (but must have HD audio) and astrogo.

ATV apps like Netflix, UnifiTV, iQiyi, Youtube, can use direct on TVs, very reliable, zero maintenance.

I tried astrogo on the zidoo or Himedia once before, fren came over, wanna watch epl
had a really hard time trying to install on it, then log in, after log in, cant navigate
end up he watch it on his phone.......

I think all these players I have since those days have no issue on audio streaming to receiver/soundbar
only issues are some players cannot decode dts, then got issues for those who playback directly on their teebee

btw I think most or all teebee now also can play files off USB right? mkv n all sorts

Astrogo app is a tricky one - they try very hard to block people using on any TV, push them to use on mobile devices only.

for a year or 2, it worked on Q10pro, now no more as they successfully blocked it.

very few boxes can run it smoothly; even ATV cannot; tanix is a rare one - can.


audio... while u can play USB on TV, their audio output is typically poor... i cannot accept.

then, there is max HDD size, navigation limitations, poor video, etc... becos TVs are built for display, not as a playback player.

I think astrogo is meant to be on mobile anyway

if play on usb, still can use hdmi arc right? audio will still be out from receiver or soundbar
decoding should be done there right?

most tvs whether hdmi arc or direct output is limited to lossy digital, i.e. dts, dd only.

some can do dd+.

the top end TVs now have e-arc, supposedly can do atmos too... but i m not sure if it is built for online netflix atmos or playback atmos.

i have not known any tv that can do dtshdma, ddtreuhd or dtsx playback.

oh yea, limited to legacy audio only

hence the standalone player better

I'm using Zidoo Z1000 Pro for few months now, overall quite satisfy with the product, but the bluray full menu support sometime got problem, cant really use for some BDISO/BDMV.

Quite enjoy with the products. Originally was thinking to buy Z9X, but after talking with the sales guy then decide go for Z1000 Pro.

Hopefully the bluray menu issue can be solve in next firmware update.

yeah, firmware improvement may be able to solve BD menu glitches.

Yes, z9x, z10pro, z1000pro, even z3000 is using same chipset RTD1619DR.....

Not sure about the HDD max capacity, coz the one I put in just 1.5TB. The max capacity is not my concern as I mostly using NAS.

the BDMV and m2ts so far no issue playing 1080p or 4k contents, most my 1080p is run perfectly on Z1000 pro, other than menu issue on 4k contents, I noticed some movie cannot play not sure is due to my VS10 setting as I force it output as DV. Maybe I should try change to auto.

I not sure how to identify is MEL or FEL for those 4K movie, But so far my setting is force to output using VS10.

Lastly, I used bitstream to my denon 3700 so the audio type I didnt test out. But based on spec, it is covered most of the format.

1 of the reason i choose Z1000pro also because of the outlook. My old player is Dune been used for more than 10 yrs but was having problem after lightning strike.

This Dune only for Full HD.....cannot pakai for 4K one haha

yes, very long lasting, it never fail to play any movies, BDMV, BDISO, m2ts all files type run perfectly, the bluray full menu support is good, never fail also.

But Dune 4k product i think not tat good compare to last time, saw reviews that some model the playback alot issues.... else I would buy Dune again already...

Maybe can try this one seem memory higher than Z1000pro 4GB RAM. But price also higher, USD 699. It using same chipset as Z1000 pro

Today I just realized my Z1000 Pro using a Cat5 LAN cable....alamak...

No wonder sometime play high bit rate movie, it would hang during playback.....

Those previous movie got problem one now play very smoothly...

I think the menu issue so far I found it happened on those concert one, i have about 200 movies collection, 99% play perfectly now, except the concert one cannot use full bluray menu

so far is Jacky Cheung and Tsai Chin this 2 cannot do bluray menu. it is just 1080p only....but it upscale to 4k.

I dont trust wifi even the unit very close to my router, even my router is AX86U, i still prefer to use LAN cable as very stable.

in fact my home theater setup all using LAN cable to connect.... hahaa....

I off all the wifi on those devices.

ehhhh.....Tsai Chin one is HK LIVE 2010 and jacky one is 1/2 century tour 2010-2012 disc 1 and disc 2. Last time the full bluray menu no issue in Dune.

No error, when I select to Play with Bluray menu, it doesn't show the menu, immediately play the concert.... press on Pop up menu no response on jacky one, then tsai chin one, pop up menu appear, but when select the song, it dont know jump to which song....
the z1000 pro did up scale to 4k, just cannot do full bluray menu.... yes agreed, the sound is awesome, i like it.

haha.... mine also kena lightning strike back to april tis year....... so my avr, my tv, ac86u, switch all gone, luckily the avr manage to get repaired now use it to drive front l/r. then tv force to change to X90J, media player oso not stable, so changed.. haha

already spent 10K+ , luckily can use CC for installment...

surprisingly beautiful planet I got problem playing on the Z9x, never had this issue on the previous Z9s

and one issue for me, I set back all to auto, my hdmi handshake (I think its that problem) is serious

the screen keep twitching then black out at menu time , macam sadako climbing out of my tv soon
x blh tahan, so switch back to auto

was watching protege over the weekend, I believe SDR file
play in VS 10 DV, quite wash out, black become greyish
if I set it to auto, everything looks quite good to my eyes

u got try update to 6.3.40 beta firmware? now in the poster wall, it can detected yr movie file contents such as wat type HDR u r using, soundtrack n etc.

Originally my intention is to use my 10 yrs old i5 to set up temp NAS for streaming the movies, but then the old PSU spoilt .... bought a new one, then still canot bootup .. so no choice hav to buy new hardware, but using the old casing. This casing can put in 10 HDD

I didnt set any categories, coz mostly I only watch movies, rarely got drama. Later I check and see

I use Plex, which helps sort the media in my NAS and let me pick up where I left off

Nas = custom made pc with various scsi pcie. I have filled it until drive w: now

Plex server = installed on a cheap PC. If you are looking to only direct play, you can also use a raspberry PI as the plex server. It does not need to be the same machine as the NAS

I can access plex on any device, using either the official app, or as I usually prefer, Kodi with Plex plugin, as Kodi supports animated subtitles natively. I suggest using Kodi for Zidoo

then have plex on my iPad (played on diff network) couldnt get it to play above 360p
so kinda give up

Use Kodi many years back, I think im too stupid for it, no idea how to use tat, but with Zidoo home theather, I dont think there is a need for Kodi
one of the reason I bought zidoo was purely for the HT app

when video+audio equipment prices "normalize" for 4kHDR+atmos/dtsx, the best results will be realized.

later i show u. Originally i got 2 NAS from Synology 1 is 2 bay (DS210j, 10 yrs old) another is 4 bay(DS413J), still serving me well, just that run on single core very slow and feel sluggish when access DSM.

Tat's why building another custom one.... wanted to install Xpenology, but due to too new hardware, onboard NIC drivers no available, so I running Openmediavault for now...

When I go in poster wall, just pick what movie I want haha i lazy organize it...

currently my setup is not fully atmos, I just use a small sony speaker to serve as height channel. Coming up i still got 2 things to do, change speaker and add a good power amp.

This year spent a bomb to replace those AV stuff almost at 1 shoot...... wallet big hole now

The zidoo once i set up i didnt touch anything and the poster wall I let it by default didnt really go organize it.... haha

I think if u open the ALL, on the left pane, there is a list of category already. Once the zidoo scanned those movies, it auto categorize for you, even the collections. I only do a small changes to remap to correct one, sometime it will show the wrong poster.

I have one Onkyo too, also go in sg to smuggle back hahahha

Think i starting HD around 2010 where onkyo 608 my 1st set. Before that I was using a sony amplifier 5.1 DTS bought from my boss about RM500 haha
