Through gentle nurture, i'm proud that my gliders have grown and this is the time they need to be "educated" or taught some discipline.
From this day on, i purpose that i will not spoil them by hand feeding mealworms anymore.
This can do more harm than good.
Seeing my hand reminds them of mealworm and they will start to gnaw at my hand. shakehead.gif
Second, i will wash my hands thoroughly subsequent to the contact with mealworm. They are able to sniff even the slightest smell of it on my finger tips.
Now i'm going to get in touch with them more with my hands, and whenever they start to main kasar by biting, i'll teach them a lesson by blowing to their face and give a sharp reproof. mad.gif And if neccessary i will take the bite for their good.
If you know how to discipline your "kids".. do tell me. hahaa.

Even my tortoises are not spared from discipline and i'm glad that they are potty trained, never poop in their housing enclosure but in a container on certain days, and peep on the newpaper that's set apart for ..when time to bed in, they know how to go to their sleeping area, on the allocated newspaper.

I'm not expecting my gliders to be like the torts, but just hope that they will be more well behaved and not so agressive..

i got them abt a month ago. 19th Dec. Yep, compared to the pics u guys posted in the 1st page, we had guess that the petshop owner lied to us. but then, we've already bought them at that time, n they just so cute n i cant help but falling in love with them instantly.

When reading this thread, i've tried my bess to keep them healthy. Feed them with fruit juices, yogurt, n eggs. Bcoz, as i said, they hardly know how to chew yet at that time. Now ok skit la. N b4 this, Cheekoo hardly eats. So i need to kinda rub the juices on his mouth so that he can lick it. It takes nearly or more than one hour each time -each.
*
When you have named them Cheekoo and Koochee, they are now your gliders...and i noticed that their names are in the reversed order, cute!
As time goes by, you will grow to love them more and more..
When your glider is still at such tender age, it takes a lot of TIME to care for them actually.. that was my previous experience, i almost fed them at 2 or 3 hours interval..with crushed fruits, applesauce.. I had to care for them when i was working.. i think you need to feed them as often as you can now..
Your gliders' destiny is changed at the moment you fell in love with them..

my glider bite off the nanah skin adi and its reddish and got blood liao now  sad.gif

As i see your poor lil glider throbbed with pain, at the spur of helplessness, i uttered a get-well prayer for him.
Hope that this ordeal will soon pass and he will be restored to a wholesome lil critter..again.
See if his wounds would dry up and heal.. continue with any medication that you think will best work for him..
If possible try to prevent him from biting the wound.. Biting it will only aggravate it.

I think making a collar for him is a good idea broken_string. It's probably heal faster if your glider doesn't bite open the wound and make it worse right? Worth a try. smile.gif I will pray for your glider to get better to ya. Really hope he does.
.....

Speaking of tweezers, cannot just use a common tweezer?
*
Yeah, let us all remember to pray for broken_string's glider to heal...ASAP..

Tweezer is a very handy tool for me, ranging from feeding anemones to manipulate eerie.. crickets.
These crickets not only makes my hair stands on end, at times when it jumps off, causing me to shriek like mad..
I have an inexplicable phobia for such insects that have those yucky poking limbs..like the roach family..
Mealworms are alright though.

This instrument is for planted tank, to insert the roots of plants into the soil, should be found in pet shops like 88 petsmart, specialist for planted tanks..
It can be used to feed the anemones in marine..

Yes, it's good to give the mealworms carrot as gutloading, but make sure it's not wet when you put it in and remove it after leaving it over night, else it will rot and your whole mealworm can die and stink from it smile.gif

Keeping cricket is tricky, cannot put them in small containers, they will die easily. Need something big like a "baldi" or something... Then put papers and cover the top with proper mesh. If not well ventilated also can die easily and stink.

I fully agree with what you say here..

Mealworm can grow considerably in size with gutloaded carrot or cucumber skin, and the vege will quickly decay within a day, so don't put more than they are able to consume. I think most of us do know that mealworm cannot tahan lama if they are in sopping and dampen condition, but all animals do need some water, however small is the quantity.. so i think mealworms will get sufficient water from the carrot itself.

For the crickets here, i have made a mistake by putting them in a small container. And the "death toll" is high, and they smell horrible, because like what you say, the air is trapped inside it (bad ventilation). So now i'm trying to put them in a larger container with a lid on top, with some newpaper inside. Hope that the condition will improve..

Thanks for bringing us to a tour of Iggy's mansion. I'm sure Iggy is more than happy to show us his new home.
I really like it. One thing, since it's a sliding door, you may want to secure it with alligator clips. Luna and Iggy may outwit you by opening the door.. some gliders can though.

KP, And i notice that most of your stuff like pouches, hammock and so on are located at the top, which is good, a mimic of their habitat as they naturally love the heights..like tree tops. thumbup.gif

How about try to freeze dried your crickets? But i personally don't think i can get to that extent unless i really really loathe the crickets..

The specialty dish for my gliders this evening is called Drop Dead Tuna Tartar with Apple Salad..haha

A taste of home recipe..Ingredients very simple..

1. Low salt canned water base tuna chunks. Rinse it before serving.
2. Chopped crunchy apples.
3. dressing or sauce: honey
4. Heinz's first baby rice cereal
5. Heinz's pear, mangga, nenas sauce
6. wheatgerms, a little to add fun and spicy flavor
7. Supplement: calcium

That's it.

oops incomplete, forgot to add celery juice and vege salad.. smile.gif

broken_string,

First, Don't Panic.

Second, Your suggie NEEDS a collar IMMEDIATELY.
You need to make a collar for your suggie or ask vet or anyone to help you to make one if you are not able.

Third step,
Be persistent, don't give up in trying to make it.

You didn't mention why it doesn't work.

First, it's probably because the radius or curve is not right.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Second, the material is not right, might be too soft.

Third, unable to hold the suggie firmly, try to hold it firm in a small towel.

I believe that you have tried your best and it's still no avail. It's ok, we all are humans with frailties.

Let you mind be at ease and have a good sleep, tomorrow morning, seek as many help from people.. some ppl may have the skill you lack. Remember always, when one is tired, the body and mind is unable to function well.

Good luck.

Yeah, after the collar is fixed on him, observe him for a few minutes. if nose turns blue or purple within first two minutes of putting collar on, it is too tight and collar will need to be loosened.

tomolo morning will bring him to the vet again.

lastly thanks everyone for ur concern  notworthy.gif

It needs 2 people to help putting in on the glider.
A vet should know how to do it, and they can sedate the glider by anaesthetic if necessary.

If the cone is not working, here is pic that shows another alternative.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

It harnesses around the upper body, and has the holes for the arms.
Around the neck, instead of coning out, it has poof so she couldn't move her head to her leg or anything for that matter, yet could still see around which the cone style restricted her from doing. They used surgical glue vs. stitching, innertube around the neck then attaching a "harness" down around the tummy. Then add some pretty surgical fabric with little smiley faces all over it!

Show this picture to the vet and see if they are able to make this.

Just thought some of you may like to know that metal prices have have gone up around the world, so all cages have gone up in price. (gone up rather drastically and suddenly actually)
*
3 or 4 years ago, the price per tonne was RM 1200, now it is RM 2000 per tonne, am i right? This is not favorable and has adverse impact on esp the construction industry..The reason for the price hike is i think because of supply and demand.

You have a very understanding and nice hubby *envious, hope that will find one*

How'd you imagine his reaction when I wanted to get the HUGE cage?
I think, hmm.. must be staring at you with big huge eyes..and then LOL "You must be joking right?"
Ofcourse he flipped like 360º, but I managed to tie him down with some reasonable reasons tongue.gif

Now and then he still ask me, "Until when you wanna keep these suggies?"

Usually I'll just keep quiet, make myself busy and pretend I didn't listen...
Haha.. u are so smart indeed..

But in my heart I answered "Until their last breath lor tongue.gif"
For me, i'd say "until MY last breath" ha..laugh.gif

KP, it's very encouraging to hear that you are enrolling yourself in a sugar glider course, fabulous..
One day, you may even compile all your experinces and put it down in a book, like a diary for personal reference or publishing...
Yeah, learning is not only life long, but like the ex- President of Singapore says, man needs some challenge in life to live..
I think i want to do that.. for all my pets. As i'm writing this, i'm actually compiling my pets medical info.

Hehhh, not really without a good fight lor to get him to understand tongue.gif

Look left and right, is your hubby standing beside when you write this?  unsure.gif  hehe

Yeah, he call the cage a ZOO doh.gif

My family calls me a Vet, my friends call my home 'mini safari'. They like to come by, so many interesting wildlife creatures, and FOC..

Haha, I say until their last breath cuz I hope to be taking care of them until that, I don't wanna go first and leave them with no one to care for them like I do wink.gif

I know I won't be able to add anymore suggies cuz I need to think about adding kids pulak doh.gif

Wish that your children will be like olive shoots around your table laugh.gif
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth..
Sons are a heritage and children a reward..
But all have to face the reality, when one has a family to care for, there won't be time for animals..UNLESS you gonna be a homemaker..
In fact, i turned down my company offer of advancement in Sinagpore because my commitment to my animals and i think it's worth..
