if you can run Win10, you can run W11, just the dev build not ready yet, there are rough edge and bugs ect, need to be polished more.

The TPM 2.0 requirement will brick some pc, especially those old one.
The latest build already stopped working on my VirtualBox, but still working on VMware with the exception of disabling hardware acceleration.

Search for suggestion on Settings, there should be a way to turn it off.

Fyi, .......

https://wccftech.com/microsoft-windows-11-w...us-performance/ - Microsoft Windows 11 Will Boost Intel Alder Lake (And Other big.LITTLE CPUs) Performance - 20 June 2021

The 12th-gen Intel Alder Lake x86 CPU coming this Fall is a hybrid CPU with a mix of high-performance(= power-hogging) Cores and energy-efficient(= power-saving) Cores (6+8 or 8+8), similar to Apple's M1 ARM CPU inside the latest Mac Mini, Macbooks, iMac and iPad.

It may be worthwhile for those who intend to buy mobile laptops to wait for the above since x86 > ARM wrt apps/programs/software/games, ie Intel Alder Lake hybrid CPU running Windows 11 for their battery-power-saving feature and good performance - not worth if buying AC-powered desktops.
.
*
bit of nit-picking: the big.LITTLE architecture is actually decade old of tech already, ARM is the inventor and been using on iphone and qualcomm chip since 2014.

it's always good to try new stuff since efficient cores helps a lot of battery life, for example when you browsing web on your phone, the battery does not drain and phone does not warm up because it's using the little cores, hopefully it will work for intel as well as windows 11.

Desktop will benefits too, when you're not gaming, rendering or photo editing, only efficient cores is running, it reduce noise and power consumption. heat reduced as well, it will prolong the hardware because your cpu is not dumping the wasted heat.

Is it worth updating? Will it slow down my current speed or anything?
*
if its your pc for work, dont try.
if gaming pc or casual use still okay.

It's already faster than Win10 on nvme, my boot time now less than 1 mins, i had slow boot issue for years, my old router start up faster than my win10 gaming pc, talks about shit optimization.

and btw, you will hate the new start menu and task bar, Win11 UX is kind of awkward to use lol

no problem at all with performance. been playing CODM on emulator also

and 1 got another win 11 on i5 6500 lappy and i5 9500f mini pc too
( no gfx card for these ) smooth daily use..
*
they kinda fixed the performance issue, at least no more slow loading on explorer, but it breaks another thing, Hyper-v enabled in OS but no way to disable it lol
this breaks a lot of stuff that require hardware accelerated virtualization, bluestack, vmware and virtualbox currently does not work on Win11 dev.

My VMware running perfectly fine! with Full Hardware Accelerated in latest Windows 11 Dev Build.

Beside wrongly label host as Windows 10 but the build was correctly detected which is latest Windows 11 Dev Build.

it looks like random bug in Win10 resurfaced in Win11, i had hyper-v enabled, vmware, blustack, virtualbox and ryzen master, all were working correctly.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/qu...ecurity-in.html

now suddenly there's no way to disable hyper-v.
unless they suddenly changed something, this kind of regression is kind of train wreck.

Quite easy to download and clean install, not very difficult on old hardware. 4g ram and ssd will be better.
*
it's actually not that difficult, consider i can install both in Vmware and Virtualbox without much issue,
both are not even have TMP nor met the minimum requirements.

I install Win11 just because i despise W10 cant change theme without activation.

Weird. Did ur PC smoking weed on ur back?
Been playing CODM on gameloop for weeks on dev build without any performance issue
*
i had old build keep installing updates over and over, and it finally breaks the OS, had to reset but overall smoothness still very far from acceptable.
At least my VM is working now, it's lagging too much in graphic animation.

When gaming, i can't move the windows around, it will become slow motion and will eat up the gpu performance.
i guess we going to have to wait final release then. Gonna submit bug report.

So today for the first time ever since I upgraded to Windows 11, I launched several Far Cry games and the experience is quite bad
My frames keep dropping from 150 ~ 200 FPS to below 40 sweat.gif

Damn it, now got no choice but to go back to Windows 10 sweat.gif

I'll do it next weekend, no time to do clean installation right now laugh.gif
*
Don't move to Win11 yet unless you're going to be MS guinea pigs, it's a dev build after all.
Having severe graphic performance issue right now, even candy crush will make my pc slow down lol

This is photo app running in background indexing my photo collection. finally an app can fully utilize my pc sweat.gif tongue.gif

Windows 10 can run in very limited resource, the instrument im testing daily running in Win10 Iot LTSC in 4GB RAM only.
You can do it by disable a lot of things, it will runs without much issue, just windows defender always get in the way.

Anyway, they didn't pay much attention in optimization, the cost is passed down to the end user, that's why the fast release cycle.
It's not difficult to tell since you require much beefier system to run new os every time.
gg battery life in lappy.

So... Installed Windows 10 Pro fresh on one machine, activated Insider Builds and got it updated to 11... then I realised I forgot to activate it.

Would using a Windows 10 or 8/8.1 Pro key work?
*
most likely will work, since MS hasn't selling W11 key yet.

any guide what to disable ?
*
Google "disable windows 10 services to improve performance reddit"

The usual thing is disable unneeded start up program, remove unused Windows features, disable browser addon, ect.
For low ram usage i still suggest Linux.

I play ancient game that after some patches, it degraded the performance

thanks for the reply !
*
what game? you have to find patched game, you can't run ancient program on modern OS, most of them will fail or degraded in terms of performance.
For example im playing Blade of Darkness, Red Alert, Quake 2, aso, unpatched version always bugged.

It's unlikely related to Windows 10 ram usage.

Most Windows 10 PCs currently being sold will be able to upgrade to Windows 11. For the PC to be able to upgrade to Windows 11, it must meet the minimum hardware specifications and specific hardware is required for some features. The upgrade rollout plan is still being finalised but is scheduled to begin late in 2021 and continue into 2022. Specific timing will vary by device.

Microsoft forcing user to stick with Edge
Although Edge base in chrome, but I still prefer Chrome, even Firefox also better than Edge whistling.gif
Just my opinion, no offense
*
Edge performed much better on low end cpu, but it was when Edge still using the old engine, not the webkit, too bad now there's no way to use it normally.
Chrome based browser and Firefox generally require faster cpu. (read: battery hog)

is win11 stable and gooding now?
*
What do you use your pc/lappy for?
They ironed out most of the bugs now, previously had many performance issue related to graphical processing.
Windows 11 looks vastly different, the start menu, control panel, ect.

Basically no BSOD as far as i can recall.

If you dont miss the old function of the Windows 7 to 10, give it a go.
Just make sure your pc have TPM2.0, use EFI boot, not CSM, then upgrade shouldnt be much of a trouble.

if you are into dark notepad and dark task manager, then yeah, they finally made it into w11, otherwise it's just the same, just slower in w11
