hello all! ever since mco started during 2020, i've picked up more on exercising such as doing normal jumping jack at home, spend more time on the treadmill, playing tennis at home and weekly 2-3 times of golf. i'm 180CM and during this exercise period i've lose my weight from 84kg to 73kg as of now.

Just 3 months ago i started to feel pain on the back of my knee. i cant squat down fully without feeling pain when i stand up and extent it. tried having some supplements and can say that its no longer than painful anymore buy i still feel the discomfort.
whenever i do a jump or do a squat, the discomfort is there.

can i get some advice on what doctors i should be looking at? is it physio or etc etc?

DO NOT exercise more than your body can take. Do you stand for long hour? Go to see doctor, it's not something usual at your age.

thanks for your advice, i've been playing tennis and golf for quite some years without any issue. its ever since i started to spend around 20mins running + 100jumping jacks daily that this issue arise. i've fully stopped doing any jumping exercise as of now as the discomfort is there.

Is a orthopedic doctor what i need to see?

Overuse of knee due to tight muscle or wrong use of muscle.

IF you still doing those exercise then u may prolong or make it worse by tearing it. Jogging and golf okay but jumping jack and tennis very stressful to knee.

Do more calf, glutes and hamstring stretching. Do proper warmup before exercise.

It could be the built up stress on your knee from the running - possibly due to bad posture. Or the jumping jacks.

Yeah Orthopedic is a good choice. Give it a shot and see what the doctor says.

20 minutes of running seems ok, try to observe your posture. Jogging or running?

Sounds like just pain due to recent change in lifestyle, ie. increase in activity volume.

Definitely go and see a physiotherapist. They can advise what can be done to improve your situation. They can also assess to see if there is any condition that requires medical attention.

PM if you'd like some recommendations

not wrong method but more in comfortable method
many are not used to the correct posture including myself and tend to be more tired if forcing myself lol

the food landing, breathing technique, etc all have their "correct form"

I am also having knee pain since 20s, but that's because I fell down before and never took care of the injury and since then it has haunted me. For me, i avoided any sports that would create major impact on my knees, especially like Jogging, or jumping jacks, anything that i know will create a lot of impact on my knees.

I focus only on swimming, fast walking if i cannot swim. Thinking to get into cycling apparently it's good for the knees! and I started taking glucosamine supplement, which really helps to elevate the pain.

Did you go for x ray or check up when you fell down in your 20s?

yeah after that i did. but no issues though. Though it was swollen for weeks i remember after i fell down and when i went to see doctor only he asked why did i wait until so late?

But after that it always has issues near the joints. Like early arthritis or something. doh.gif

Same case for me, fell down after sports but after x ray and nothing happened.

I did some google and they say x ray only can detect bone.
Many things don’t show up on an X-ray or MRI. Nerve damaged does not show up. Spinal arthritis does not show up on either of those.
Best to do CT or MRI and they can see tendon or Meniscus tear

Yeah need to do MRI. But current situation I am not going hospital unless absolute necessary. So far the glucosamine pills help, and also because I have been exercising (non-impact to the knees), help to elevate the pain. Gotta build the muscles around the legs to support the knees.

I hope it can heal naturally without taking any pill.

Anyway how many years have it been since you injured your knee?

A knee guard can at least help in some way with dealing with the pain in the mean time. Otherwise, warm ups before any excercise can help a little too
