QUOTE(Reanne @ Jan 30 2008, 09:50 PM)
Lots of hiding spots, stable things to climb on, levels to climb on, appropriate sized wheels, lots of hay to chew. Chinchillas do not play with balls, they're not dogs or cats. In the wild they live on rocky areas in cold climate, so stable things and levels to climb and hiding spots in an aircon room are good for them to play and hide in.

Plus, I will say that I dislike ppl asking for cheap animals. You pay for what you get and I learned this lesson very clearly when the chinchilla I had died from various causes due to the care given before it was bought. They were cheap because they were adults and the person that bought them and gave them to me did not do research neither did he bother to look in the chinchilla's health history. All he wanted was a cheap chinchilla because he thought they were all the same. Now he is currently looking for a chinchilla himself, but he has learned his lesson and not looking for cheap animals anymore.

Can I know the nick name or name of the person who want a chinchilla? PM me if you not wish the person name to expose. Cause I will chin for sale soon, I will need to filter people like this. blush.gif

Just want to ask a Question. Can chinchillas live outside your house? and are there any temperament differences between male and female chinnies?
*
Chinchilla is a IN HOUSE pet, cannot live out side.

Temperament, every chin have difference character, I PERSONALLY find male is very tame in nature. 10 out of 7 male is very tame. Tame mean let you hold longer, won't struggle when you try to pick them up from the cage, stay still on your hand for sometime, etc.

I notice you very interested to have chin as well, I will also suggest you do more research on chin just by google chin basic care, cause your question is very very basic that need to know blush.gif . You will get a lot of link to read by google. example www.chinchillas.com TONS of thing to read about, andyou can learn to discern basic healthy chin's LOOK as you want to purchase one in future. sweat.gif

Ok i just called my friend's cousin up. She sent the chin to a vet and guess what... it's having a cold. I kinda am pissed of at her right now and scolded her. Now Mei(the chin) is on liquid antibiotics(plus some eucalyptus oil fragrance[according to the vet it improves their appetite and gets them relaxed]) and her cage has been relocated inside the spare room where nothing is kept. Oh and i went out and bought a slab of terracotta for the future chin(to keep it cool). Hope it recovers
*
A COLD? GO scold the vet as well. ASK the vet why the eyes will have discharge WITH COLD? I can ASSURE you with the liquid med or any antibiotic will not cure that.

Anyway you can take photos of your friend's cousin chin? i concern for that chin. Without changing the way he/she care, the chin will definately not look like a chinchilla, but a street rat look and is very skinny, huncth and greassy fur.

The eyes infection and irritation with eyes drop will help IF ONLY the enviroment and caring of the chin attitude change, if not it won't cure. blush.gif

how big can a chin grow?
i saw at 1 U chin is very big sweat.gif
*
Depend on the breed/gen of the chin. Can range from 400g-1200g. But mostly will be 400g-800g. I knew some locally pet owner inbreed their chin, it will get even smaller size. For example a baby of 1-3 month usually is 1month=100g+, 2month=200g+, 3months=300g+ is a MUST, if the babies is drop below the line, the is 2 reason, 1. not well care for mother and babies, 2. inbreed.

Not to praise my self, i have 2 month baby chin is 300g+.

My chins range from 500g-900g.

Here is some photos for to share.

About the 1U pet shop, I believe Pet wonderland already is not there, the BALANCE of pet shop is WORST and irresponsible pet shop i ever visit. The chin is suffering with fur chewing, dirty unchange AND REUSE BEDDING for the same cage over and over again by just filter away the poo, PLUS INBREED chinchilla. They is 1 rabbit with skin disease(NO FUR on whole body) with NO TREATMENT GIVEN. I visit once 1 yr ago and never visit that moron shop anymore. OF CAUSE REPORTED IMMEDIATELY TO SPCA ON THAT TIME. I even talk politely to the shop owner, and the shop owner speak so rudely, I end the conversation go for SPCA. (SPCA just make 1 visit that's all shakehead.gif )

Chinchilla can be 'appear' /sell in any pet shop from a clean, tidy pet shop to warm, hot, dirty petaling street pet shop.

If you already have a heart for chinchilla, I will suggest you in the progress of your searching for a chin, you should do more research about caring of chin on the internet. Is very easy thing. blush.gif

here is a good one to start with --->http://www.chinchillas.com/resource/index.htm

Yes, is difficult to get chin at this moment. And you read my thread about the ENEOS shop about chin, you still thinking want to get from them? That's is bad bad bad decision, I wish you not regret later.
I believe you are just found out about Chinchilla for pet, seem still hv some time to search for chinchilla, why dont you do more reading and study on care of chinchilla on the internet? google 'Care chinchilla', you hv hundreds of site to read about. I believe after you reading it, you wont go to that ENEOS shop to purchase chinchilla OR ANY ANIMALS!

QUOTE(GMC @ Mar 21 2008, 12:58 PM)

haha!! I love the whiskers. so twitchy and tickleish. BTW when i scratch my chin, it makes a weird sound sort of like muffled laughing and wags it's tail. is this good? it does not jump away though
*
rclxms.gif wagging tail have many sign, ALL IS good sign. For your situation, your chin like you and very happy at that moment.
About the weird sound, i think it is begging you something, if you been feeding him treat, he will keep on beggin when you come close to the cage. Chin have MANY weird sound, i not sure your weird sound is the one i descript. blush.gif

May I know where can I get Chinchillas in Klang Valley?

Planning to get for my girlfriend.

Do I have to buy them in pairs? Or will they do fine just living by themselves?
*
You no need to buy pair, they live very well alone and wont feel lonely. secondly, before you get a Chinchilla for your GF, i will suggest you to study this species's need before buying for her. Even her self need to study as well, it wont be a suprice for her as a gift. if not you and the chin will struggle and eventually is the chin who suffer the most. Browse my first page, i have posted some useful link to read.

Added on April 11, 2008, 11:06 amWanna ask you a few questions and would really appreciate it if you could help me with these..

1. My chin doesn't eat pellets (pellets that looks like rabbit food).. What can i buy for him? Any brand to recommand ? Or What should i Do?
Where you located? If you in KL, you can get other brand like Kaytee chinchilla pellet.Pellet must use those is plain pellet type, not those have colouring.

2. He often urine at his bowl (place where i put the food). Should i change to a smaller one ?
Wash your dish bowl, dry it well. is common chin urine on the bowl, do you use bedding? If no, use bedding, use cage that is solid base bottom, dont use wire cage bottom for your easy cleaning, it will make him want to pee on bowl.

3. He likes sunflower seeds alot. I threw in a few for him together with the pellets and he only chooses to eat sunflower seeds..
Stop feeding sunflower seed, you will soon make your chin sick and die. Dont feed anything is high fat and dont let you chin train you, you train him. Chin need a very straight diet, no seed, no nut, no corn, no vegetables or fruit. Just pellet and hay will do. I will suggest you search on google type "chinchilla care", there is a lot popping up.

I am really afraid that he starves because he doesn't like pellets.. I do have alfafa hays at home and he eats it occasionally. I have also brough Prestige(brand) Natural Snack for him but can i put it in his main course?
When he hungry he will eat the pellet, change your pellet if there is not written from chinchilla, even its does written for chinchilla, use those is plain pellet type. Kaytee is good brand to go for. Stock feeding all the junk, like snack, seed, etc. Your chin need plaint chin pellet and good timothy hay + occationly small alfalfa hay.

Pls help me out with this..

Last suggestion for you, pls read more about chin care, feeding sunflower seed show that you did not enough reading on chinchilla.

Haha... They are not like cat, cannot running here and they in the house FREELY. They must be in the secure cage which they cannot go out and cannot like other animal attack them. But you can set a 5 minutes play time each day for them to let lose BUT SECURE surrounding. They are rodent tho. biggrin.gif
