Wow, RM300 is definitely too cheap la. If you so lucky to find out where can get... let me know ar drool.gif I pay you "minum teh" money.

To buy a good quality chin will cost you a lot... to maintain the quality of the chin or taking good care of a chin, may cost you even more. You may need to consider that cost too. Taking care of a chin oso require a lot of patient and time. I hope you can be a chin owner and join us... Happy hunting smile.gif

Haha thatnks Shingin...i will try...u have 2 totoro right?
How bout give me one, i take good care hehe.. brows.gif

Been reading a bit bout chinchilla...I tink patient and time are things that i could give...
Maintaining them with good quality nutrition and provide suitable house is also not the problem...
The thing is, to keep good care of ma own totoro, i need to place it in a 24/7 air-con environment...
Now that's going to be a bit of a prob..Ma house do have a/c, but i don't tink ma parents will let me on it all day long...
Any chinchilla owner here share the same prob like me...any solution dude... hmm.gif

Place the cage in the most coolest place in ur home, and make it a permanent spot for their cage.. Coz they r most secured in the surrounding they knew already, meaning no changing the location here n there. They will get stressed easily.

If dont have a/c, then have to give the chinchilla dust bust more often than those housed in a/c, to keep their fur dry n clean, so less hot to them.. Marble tiles or cooling pads for small animals can be put in cage to help more cooling down. Ice pads near the cage, towel dips in icy cold waters then fanned to the cage indirectly, can also be done..

If dont have a/c, please dont get them wheels, coz they can get heated up n die of heat stroke when they finished their running, coz they r not being housed in a/c. If got a/c, it ok to have wheels for them. But no wheel in malaysia is suitable for them so far.. Coz after they used the wheel, they will get heated up, and in a non a/c place, they cant cool down as fast as those in a/c, so they can die of heat stroke..

Some forumers here do actually have totoro but don have a/c also..

I know of many friend who have chinchilla in air con room and who don't. My friends that don put their chin in air con room, they make sure the room temperature not over 30c, and when needed, for emergency, air con is a too save your chin life. If you can't provide a cooling condition for a chinchilla, you need to give then dust bath more often, like 3 times a week, give them marble/ tile to sleep on, find a ceremic house for them, etc . Chinchilla that not raise in cooling enviroment will not hv super thick fur. BUT chinchilla in none air con room still will produce thick fur due that is CHINCHILLA. You will see chin shed more fur in none air con condition, compare with air con condition, they just shed, alot i mean. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Many ppl I found out is from a none air condition up grade to air con condition, cause you will see a BIG DIFFERENCE on their appearance and fur. You can browse on the first page, they is a link about WILD chinchilla, you can read that to get an ideal of where chinchilla come from. Just like Malaysian like to eat sambal belachan, Masaleh like to eat tomato source, with sambal belachan, malaysian will feel hard to eat their food.... laugh.gif laugh.gif brows.gif flex.gif

Solution is, read this thread, from start to end, a lot of thing i have share here before, you will find new ideal to create an enviroment that suit you and your chin. blush.gif

Hi De lonely,
Chinchilla is very clean animal, their famous is because of their have the finest fur in the world, their dont hv body odor AT ALL, their poo is no smell, but pee sure have very little. So you need to use some quality bedding to against this smell or change it more often, like everyday if you using pee pan.

Every body who want to get a chinchilla an first glimpse, I always will encourage them to read , study and research before you bough 1 back home, this will truely help you and your chin have a happy like and a happy pet.

EVEN you hv bough a chin before doing any research, QUICKLY do research! laugh.gif

I din provide a/c for my chin. What I normally do is, put my chin at the downstairs living room (coolest place in the house), then open the door during raining day and morning about 7am, to let some cold air blow in. Other than that I dun open window and door coz the outside temp is a lot higher than the indoor room temp ( especially during day time).

Dust bath them every 2 days once. Ermm at the moment I gave them tiles, will buy them marble soon. And I give them a fan as well, as least the hot air won't trap in between the fur... I noticed they like the wind blowing at them (ventilation purposes). Thermometer is a must to check the room temperature. Normally my room temp ranges from 29-30. During raining season is about 26.5-28. If I feel warm, I will definitely on the a/c for a few hrs.

Reason cannot on the a/c: Wow, my electricity bill is about RM300++ a month for 2 person only after I change to digital meter. I only on my upstairs a/c and 2 PC for 8-10 hrs a day. Complaint to TNB oledi but they said digital meter is more accurate (belt meter is not accurate) and soon all the residences will change to that as well. If I provide a/c for my chin it will be a heavy burden for me. blush.gif I few very bad for my 2 loved one.
