If every pet shop can learn and do what the basic need for each animal to be meet, i think they will be lots of happy pet begin sold each day. Same time, new owner should also know what should be provide for their pet to ensure a happy pet community. smile.gif

yea.. i hope someday we can all reach that level of awareness smile.gif

just wondering.. how many of you train your chins to pee in a proper litter box? I know it's not possible to train them with their poo.. they will poo everywhere, but it is possible to train them with their pee. Just wondering how difficult or easy it is to pee-train a chin?

Yes you can easily train chin to pee on litter box. For the begining, you will use some bedding as for their bed, once you saw the pee mark, you can start put in your pee pan. scoop the bedding begin peed, then mix with new bedding put in the pee pan, later their will pee on that spot only. This may need to practise few time to make the chin get a hang of it.

Using pee pan can save a lot of bedding, but you need to change it everyday or 2 days once, chin pee quite alot. If many chin stay in 1 cage, then change bedding everyday is a must.

Thanks! Was day dreaming about my future chins cage haha I plan to have 2 chins only.. with solid base cage.. but i don't want to throw the bedding all over the base. So i'm planning to use a litter pan for them.. neater and easier to clean, hopefully biggrin.gif

how long did it take to pee-train your chins, on average? for my bunnies, 1 to 2 weeks only hehe.. they learn very fast, i find it easier to train them than to litter train dogs tongue.gif

Wah, nice pics!! The sleepy chins are making me sleepy on this Friday afternoon... just had a heavy lunch too.. *YAWN!!!*

Good for you bebee.

Chinchilla is very easy to train them pee on a same spot, if you hv train them pee on a litter pan, you can use those little pan that is big enough and have wire on the top of the pan, you can use ANY type of bedding you feel good, cause the chin wont be able to eat it. biggrin.gif

Chinchillas, do we have litter pans with wire on top sold here? Is the litter pan metal? I haven't seen those.. I was thinking of DIY. Use metal baking tray and get wire mesh from hardware shop. But if I can find ready made metal litter pan with wire, then it'll be easier..

I was away for a week and I just came back yesterday (saturday) and noticed one of my chin "Pebble" was not responding well (not active, eat less and looks tired). Later I found out that the one who help me jaga my chins vmad.gif (my hubby) didn't close the cage properly on thursday nite and end up Pebble jumped out and ran around at the living room. He only found out in the next day morning (friday) and Pebble was sitting next to the cage, looks exhausted and lembut. Thank god she didn't run out and become longkang rat.

My hubby faster scooped her up and her eyes cannot really open big and body was very hot too. He straight away on the aircorn and blow directly at her for hours. He even curi curi came back home during office hr to see whether Pebble ok or not.

I was so mad and worried after knowing that. Sitting at the cage feeding her by hand (Donno why she just refuse to eat by her own). Luckily she will eat if I feed her but not a lot oso. This morning I noticed the shit oso lesser than normal. At least I can see she is more active compare to last nite. I feel very stress coz I completely have no confident to leave my chins to others anymore. My year end holiday going to "boil soup" oledi sad.gif

Chinchilla: Do u think it is a good idea to put my chins at Fluff while I am away. The owner do provide pet boarding if I am no mistaken.

O... since you will sometime not close the gate proper, this round make sure you did it, and maybe create anohter second lock.

The thing your hubby do is right at the begining stage, but wrong in other steps. If chin is too hot , is good to put into air con room with temperature INCREASE slowly, not suddenly put him into a TOO cold air con place. Like from 26c slowly drop to 18c. And air con cannot be directly blow on the chin just to think to cold it down, that wil make the chin get into shock or get sick.

First think when chin run out for many hours without food and water, thing must do is give him water, water is the most important part for rodent, without water they die very fast, without food they die fast too but not as fast as water. Keep your chin hydrated.

Since your chin is in your care now, just monitor her, see is she get lot of water to drink or not, if not you can go get an fuji apple, squezz some juice out and mix with abit of water, 50% juice/50% water, and temp her to drink, this is for WHEN CHIN IS dehydrated, not for daily use.

About boarding at fluff for chin, I can't comment yet... blush.gif I will suggest go for the plan you told me earlier.
