I was looking for affordable tyre for my axia before. Looking for tyre that has good wet grip. Tried cc6 and toyo neo3 before. But both has poor grip during raining.

On my list, cc6, hankook eco2 and xm2+. But few people said xm2+ is not worth it to be installed on axia. Then i read review bout dunlop j5. Which they said better wet grip than cc6 and even xm2+.

So i ordered online 4 donuts of j5. Then the shop called me, the j5 tyre no stock liao, we have j6 now, would u like to try the j6 or change to other brand. But you have to topup la she said.

So yeah. New tyre, why not. Should be better than j5 (hopefully). So rm138 per donut. The thread almost similar to dunlop j5. No info on any website yet. Hopefully the wet grip is better than cc6, neo3 and even xm2+

Using 175/65r14 before. Now change to 185/60r14.

Did you consider your original sport rim width before changing to 185/60/R14?

Standard rim size width should be 5'5~6' for 185 tires for a balance handling & comfort.

If yours original sport rim should be just 5" just imagine your small feet with a bigger shoe size what will happen when running in high speed or enter a corner fast?

Yes. Considered already. Been asking my friend working as tyre pomen for the suitable tyre size. But didnt change my tyre w him as he worked at my hometown far far away. I changed my tyre in kl.

For 185/60r14 tyre. Can used jj5 up to jj6.5. The recommended one of course jj5.5

Update.

-After 200km.
The tyre is quite good. Better than previous toyo neo3 and conti cc6. This j6 is really quiet. Now i only hear my engine running during driving, not the tyre sound. not like before, the sound of the tyre running on the road was like so loud. Performance during rain is also good. But i only drive 60-80 km/h during rain.

I wonder what changes they rolled out in Sport J6 instead of J5. They didn't even launch this product

It what way it is better than cc6? If is better than cc6, that is a really good tyre from dunlop considering the price.

Update after 1100km.

- this tyre is really quiet. I couldnt hear the sound of my tyre like before when i used cc6 or neo3. Just hear my engine sound now. Which is really good

Wet grip is much better than cc6 and neo3. Confirmed. I drove in karak highway last week for work purpose.

Overall, a good tyre w cheaper price tag than cc6, neo3,xm2+ and proxes cr1

i used J5 for 75k km (~3.5years) before changing.
this tyre is the only tyre i want to repeat buying.
but it changed to J6.
the shop owner keeps insisting this is made by continental.
i said, i dont care who made this, because i used continental tyre at similar price and it sucks.

On J6, not sure how good it can hold up compared to J5.
J5 is directional and on wet is certainly good.

I don't see many reviews for this new J6 tyre so I'll add my comments.

I had experience with previous J5 on a friend's Myvi with size 175/65R14. Tyre is approx 2 years old.
Comfort and quietness is pretty good. Very similar to previous experience with Mich XM2 and Conti CC6
Dry and wet grip for daily use is very acceptable, didn't really get to push the car since it's a Myvi not a sports car.

This got me interested to try the new J6 on my own Myvi G3
Just got it fitted earlier this week, size 185/60R15

Stock Myvi G3 size is 185/55R15. Decided to up the tyre height due to firm suspension on the Myvi G3 which became unbearable.

First impressions (less than 100km):
Fairly quiet and very comfortable. Very similar to XM2/CC6
Dry grip is good.
Wet grip will test when I get to.

Will report back with further findings in a few months time.

Edit:
In case you're wondering,
XM2 is good for quiet and comfort and it's a very good well rounded tyre for daily use but it's too pricey especially for popular tyre sizes.
CC6 quiet and comfort is excellent but the dry grip is average and the wet grip is really quite bad.

For myvi G3 stock tyre is Goodyear Assurance Triplemax. Grip on this tyre is very good but compound is hard. Not comfortable and very noisy. The J6 and with +5 in profile height transformed the car. Much more livable daily now.

Update 1 Sept 2021 (Tyres ~3 weeks old / 800km mileage):
It's been rainy season the past few weeks.
- Wet grip is good
- Wet braking is acceptable. Myvi brakes suck but the tyres do help.
- Dry braking is good too

Update 17 April 2021 (Tyres ~6 months old / 5000km mileage):
- Still performs as well as new
- Tried same size Michelin XM2 on a friend's car, noticed J6 sidewall seems a tad softer than XM2
- I noticed that the XM2 has slightly better grip in dry compared to J6. Probably due to the stiffer sidewall on XM2
- Comfort and noise on the J6 does seem slightly better than XM2 (based on my own un-scientific judgement the J6 probably ~10% better)
- Also found out recently that the Dunlop J6 has increased in price. Becoming more popular recently or due to inflation? I don't know

Update 29 August 2022 (Tyres 1 year old / 10,000km mileage):
- Still performs as well as new
- Tyre noise is slightly increased when pressure is low (e.g. -40kPa from recommended). Pump air pressure back to manufacturer recommended pressure and its quiet again
- It's not as dead silent as when new, but still relatively quiet (+10% noise compared to when new)

Update 17 April 2023 (Tyres 1yr 8mths old / approx. 15,000km mileage):
- Comfort: Still good
- Noise: Not as quiet as before, still very OK (+30% noise compared to when new)
- Dry grip & Dry braking: Still performs fine under aggressive driving
- Wet grip: Not so good and not very confidence inspiring. Still better than CC6 but with similar age the XM2 definitely outperforms J6 in the wet.
- Wet braking: Stopping distance nowhere as good as when new. Tyre tends to slightly skid/slide when harsh braking in wet (you shouldn't be driving like this in the wet anyway)
- Thread depth: Yet to rotate my tyres but the front threads still looks really new (front wheel drive car)

Update 7 Dec 2023 (Tyres 2yr 5mths old / approx. 22,000km mileage):
- Comfort: Still good
- Noise: Not as quiet as before, still very OK (+30% noise compared to when new)
- Dry grip & Dry braking: Still performs fine under aggressive driving
- Wet grip / Wet braking: Noticeably not as confidence inspiring in the wet
- Thread depth: Yet to rotate my tyres. Front threads look like they've been worn in about 50% at the moment.
Will be rotating my tyres front-back during upcoming service. Definitely won't be doing any aggressive driving in the wet from here on.

Update 13 Sept 2024 (Tyres ~3 years old / approx. 30,000km mileage)
- Comfort: Still good
- Noise: Same as last update
- Dry grip & Dry braking: Same as last update
- Wet grip / Wet braking: Same as last update
- Thread depth: Decided not to rotate my tyres (it's not been rotated at all since I first put them on). Front threads worn in around 70% at the moment. The "Rain/Shine" emboss on the tyre now only has the "Shine" emboss, the "Rain" emboss has dissapeared completely now.

This will be the last update I'll give for these tyres as I'll probably swap them out to try something else once the front threads are gone.
Overall I'm quite happy with these tyres. Only downside is that the wet grip isn't great from the 2 year / 20,000km mark onwards.

These tyres are fantastic if you drive sedately. Comfort and noise levels are still its key strengths. Durability (threadwear) and dry grip is acceptable.
But with abit of spirited driving the tyres will fall short, especially in the wet.

Last of the last update 5 May 2025 (Tyres ~3.75 years old / approx. 40,000km mileage)
- Tyres are flat and dead at this point. The shine emboss is gone as well now
- Surprisingly still fairly decent dry grip and good quietness levels
- Wet grip is not good but still able to cope with decent speeds in the wet
- Changing out my tyres later this week, bye

Shame that this Dunlop Sport J series isnt as popular as other mainstream tires.

Did you get to do a price comparison?

Attached some screenshots from Shopee for comparison between a few tyres I considered.
1. Toyo CR1
2. Michelin XM2
3. Conti CC6
4. Dunlop J6

I was seriously considering between the Toyo and Dunlop.

Ended up going with the Dunlop simply because I had more experience with the older J5.
The J5 tyre is nearing 3 years old but yet still performs well, so that's good enough for me smile.gif

Don't see 175/65r14 from TPM for the J6 though hmm.gif

Considering to replace them on my MG3 1.3 as well or maybe I'll got one size higher with 185/65r14. brows.gif

Edit: Nvm, talked to a few tire shops. Can't fit to my current wheels. Better go for 185/60r14. doh.gif

How does the Dunlop J6 compares to Toyo Proxes CR1? Does it perform better and are both Made in Malaysia?
