Here AP we also have to be careful because sometimes AP can also be second hand or recond set. Dunno la in Singapore can trust or not to buy their AP/IMPORT set. For new phones like Nokia N95 8GB can trust la because very very new not yet have second hand. For old phones, I have no idea la.

Nice la if Singaporean can have the contract deal. Like in Europe also, Nokia N95 8GB is a free phone for 18 mths contract. Sigh. Pay like GBP40 per mth like that. That GBP40 already include free minutes, text etc. So nice. If you stay there and earn the money there, GBP40 is just like 40ringgit out of your salary mah.

Same also in Singapore, the phone is SGD1200. If you earn SGD3000, u have SGD1800 left.
Here in Malaysia, phone is RM3500, earn RM3000... not even enough to buy phone liow, hahahaha!

I'm the first one getting this phone. Kenot tahan liow! Hahaha!

First and foremost, I got the phone from Renee, very leng lui this girl The reason I got from her is because she has the best price so far.
Secondly, I am pretty sure (also been informed by this girl in Nokia Store Bangsar and other Nokia seller) that the price will be between 3K-3.5K here.
Since I don't mind getting an AP set and I also want to go Singapore to buy... after much thot and calculation, the cost will be the same if I take from Renee.
Also, she got a lot of good review and feedback from her customer so I trust her lor.

The set I got is Singtel set, I checked the stuff inside and see Singtel stuffs.
It is comsat warrantied.
Complete package with everything inside except the pouch, but Singapore sets don't have pouch lor.
The phone is fine, new, original stuffs inside. I'm still learning and want to update the software etc. I am charging the phone now.
So the conclusion is, to hell with the 5th November launch here becos I already have my beautifuuuuuuuul baby and I love it.

I will play play with my phone first, then I will write some personal review of it. This is my first symbian phone so I have a lot to learn.

Hi evryone..let's get down to business.
Before that, let me make it clear it is an AP set from Singtel.

Let me start with the most important stuff, I still have a lot to try, so will first tell about few important things:

1. Battery life.
After getting the phone, I saw some pre factory battery juice at 3 bars. Met few friends and play play with the phone without charging first Take pics, see sample videos, try everything. I realised it is tag with Singtel wap etc, so try to override all stuffs. Delete this and that. Come back home around midnight, install PC suite and get it connected etc first. Then start charging it to full (until the phone said it full).

When it is full (arround 3am), I do some back up via pc suite, install some applications, transfer songs, video clips, play play etc.
The next day (saturday) went out, try the phone, wifi searching ON, bluetooth ON, play a lot of music the whole day since my friends are also trying the phone etc, took pics, play games, view video clips. Went to Starbucks, try wifi, go online, view blogs etc.

When I was finally home at 1am, the battery is still with 3 bars. At then at home try to do some stuff again, change themes, download themes try this and that. Get my 3G working since at first it failed cos of tag with Singtel. I finally charge the phone around 4am, with 2 bars left. While charging, I do a backup again since a lot of stuffs already installed.

For me, the battery life is super. I bet if i dont use the phone that much, I don't have to charge everyday. I never use the old N95 so cant really say how much better, but based on the postings I read, the new N95 8GB does have more battery juice than the older brother.

2. Slider
The slider is sturdy. But I think not a lot of ppl has the creaky, lousy slider like the old N95. So i suggest u try first before you buy and if it's not to your liking, just ask for another unit. I didnt have a choice to ask for another unit since I bought AP via Renee BUT thank God mine is ok. It slide smoothly, not that hard and not loose either. No lights can escape from the side of the phone (as the problem with old N95).

3. Screen
The screen is AWESOME. Really beautiful. I have no issues at all, watching video clips is awesome (but please make sure your video clips is in high quality if not lousy also lah).

3. 128MB RAM
I installed a lot of applications. The pre-installed is nothing to shout about. So I tried running7 applications and including a music playing at the back. The applications running at the back while I play my music are: quickoffice, mobipocket reader, application manager, Sudoku, Ngage demo game (fifa), gallery, STILL not hang or slow down. While music is playing, I also start playing Fifa game, it went smoothly. No hangs etc, So I am not sure when it will hang. This is for testing and it is still not hang, I don't think with normal use u will leave that much applications running at the back anyway, so I don't think you will get any hang phone, ever. Hahaha! I also agree with Steve from allaboutsymbian review, he tried to 'hang' the phone also failed. So I think it is good on the doubled RAM.

4. Sound
It is not bad. It has 3D thng and the sound is loud. I can't compare it with Sony walkman phone or anything because truthfully the walkman phone is SUPER. But I am very satisfied with the sound quality, at least it is A LOT better than my old phone Samsung D900, hehe.

5. GPS
I download the map loader application from Nokia website. Download maps for Singapore and Malaysia. Transfer it to my phone. Please make sure that your GPS is not allowed to access your data package from your telco or u will have high bills because they will download those maps when they can't find it. Unless u have unlimited 3G package, then it's OK. I will have to test more on the GPS.I just tried play play abit and cant really comment on the performance and how fast it can lock to the satellite. I tried once, it was pretty fast but then I think I better test more before I give any judgement. WILL UDATE THIS PART MORE.

6. Camera
This is no contest. I did a lot of pics taking and video shooting. I have no problems with the quality. BUT I will take pics for comparison and post it here later. Also will try the TV out and see if it is really DVD quality as it claimed. WILL UPDATE THIS PART MORE.

7. WIFI
My phone can detect WIFI very fast. Connection is also good. I have no issues with my WIFI. Surfing at Starbucks is easy. At home I don't have WIFI... but m phone can detect my neighbours hahahaha! They locked it so bad for me, if not can steal their bandwdth also, LOL. So far don't have any problem with WIFI.

8.IM
I also havent tried the IM (MSN, YM) etc on my phone. I think I can try for free for a while but a good friend of mine will send me free aplications for it. So have to wait before I can fully test. I tested fring, but unfortunately they don't have Nokia N95 8GB compatible YET. I tested the one for N95, it doesnt work. It also could be because of my 3G havent set yet that time. Will try again and give comment.


Summary (for now).

If you buy AP set, you have to accept that your phone is not totally clean. There will be a lot of things already pre-installed by the telco, in my case Singtel. U need to clean a lot and configure your settings to avoid conflict (like 3G, MMS, etc). I also have a preinstalled themes from Singtel which I hate HAHAHAHA. I can't seem to remove it, and even when I use other themes, something like screensaver will still be the one from singtel if I use animation, so sian. I think I can find a way to override this, need to play play somemore.

I cant access my EasyAccess from Maxis. I think it's because of it tag to Singtel. I could be wrong, I need to call Maxis and found out. It could also be something wrong with my simcard. One thing I have to applaud Maxis, they alraedy have Nokia N95 8GB in their website for WAP,3G and MMS setting so no problem to start browsing away. It's pretty fast. My house area has 3G, not sure if it is in the HSDPA area. But so far, I can surf the web on my phone OK.

I can play FIFA in landscape mode, it's in the setting. Just a bit weird for the keys, have to get used to it. Unfortunately, Ngage and Nokia Music Store is not yet LIVE, so I can't really say how the phone will go with NGage platforms. So no comment on this.

What else to say for now? Hmmm... I LOVE MY PHONE!!!!!! Hahaha. I dont regret not waiting for the Zitron set. I have a feeling that it will not be less than 3K. BUR my advice is... BUY AP FROM SOMEONE U CAN TRUST. Also, if you want to buy AP, buy now before the phone is launched everywhere because then u could get conned with recond set too if it's already available everywhere. So far I only know Singapore to have launched it in Asia Pacific. In Europe, few countries already have it.

So, that's for now. I wanna get back to my phone and keep playing and testing Now wanna check the firmware updates. Not sure if there's an update yet.

And here is the sample shot I took last nite from my N95 8GB. The only source of light is from the store. The camera setting is all auto. I didnt fix anything. The size is larger actually but when I upload to Photobucket, it rezise it to 1024x768

YES! The battery is BL-6F! All new N95 8GB is coming in the box with this type of phone. If you see BL-5F, you are conned.

I bought it at RM2750 from Renee. Maybe u can get cheaper when it's launched here in Malaysia. I don't know.
I understand your dilemma, hehe. But for me, I always want N95, wait wait then come out with N95 8GB. Also my Samsung is so lousy I wanna cry, hahaha!

Hmm, can restart the phone or not? After restart the folder is still there? By the way, there is a funny thing how Nokia did their foldering. For example, if I save the video to MyFolder, I can view it via video center and play it. But when I go to gallery, I cannot see the video i transferred. This is where the iPhone received a lot of thumbs up, the way it saving the phone and ease of use is better la I think. Try restatt the phone, usually all problems solved when I restarted.

This is another reason why I get the AP set. I asked and asked and asked, seemed like NO ONE knows!!! Everytime it's gonna be another 2 weeks. Sigh. The only trustable source is Nokia Shop Bangsar, the last time I checked the girl said in 1 or 2 weeks but she also said she doesnt know. But on the price she said confirmed between 3K-3.5K liow.



Yup, I downloaded for N95. No options for N95 8GB yet, but it's the same. It works fine in my phone anyway

You can download trailer, montage, ringtone and 2 demo games for free. No full length movie tho, hehe. But that one can do yourself, torrent only.

But HolyCross, the internet you can access via wifi (good if you have one configured at home) and also 3G connection, this also depending on your mobile operator la. But it's easy.

I hope this is not another rumour. I hope it is 3K as mentioned for authorised unit. If you ask me, it doesnt matter as long as it launched. Say only but never comes out.

Anyway continuation of my review, there is a bit I need to update.

1. GPS
First u really need to download the map via map loader because if not it will take a long time for the satelite to get your position. (also will cost you A BOMB on your data charges, unless you already get the unlimited package from your telco). So I downloaded Malaysia and Singapore map, I tried it at home, inside... I get locked at my position in 10 secs. Showing the street of my home etc. I could also detetect the nearest cinema, starbucks, shopping mall etc.

In open area, tested in my office lobby, it's open space... I get locked to my position with maps etc in 3 secs. So the GPS is fast The downside is, you have to hold the phone vertical to get good satelite locking, which is OK if you walk, but if you drive, I don't see how you can manage when the phone is flat on your dashboard.

2. Camera
I don't take pics yet... well I did but not really for testing But so far I have no issues. I don't see a point posting it anyway since the quality is the same like the current N95. Huge improvement is on the pics processing time I think. The camera still load at 2-3 secs, but the processing takes another 1-2 secs.

I mentioned that I have issue with my EasyAccess, now it's working. No more Singtel tag stuff for my phone except for 2 things that is non relevant.
1. MIO themes, this is Singtel branding (I think).
2. Chinese dictionary is pre-installed. It can't be removed, it needs some hacking but it's no big deal. I can live with Chinese dictionary.

The rest are all now customised to local telco. I can access 3.5G speed at my house which is awesome. I can browse internet, upload pics to Flickr etc. Very very cool! Downside is the lack of touchscreen of course

To play divx movies, you need Coreplayer I tested one of the Japanese series it works awesome. Very nice indeed to watch your favorite movie/series on your phone!

The phone response is acceptable. I have a lot of things in my phone now so it's not as fast as when I first got it... and STILL the phone doesnt hang and crashed so far! I tested running all my application under Application folder at once, with music playing at the back, play games... it doesnt crash the phone, just some lagging I also installed fring, using the one for Nokia N95, it warned me about compatibility, but it works fine.

CONCLUSION:
I am very satisfied with my AP set phone, hahahaha! At the end it doesn't matter. Of course as a precation u shud take the authorised set just incase your phone rosak, but if you are willing to take the risk, AP is fine. Also an important note, if you wanna get AP, get it now before it has been launched for a while because that time, u don't really now if it's really new or a recond.

So... FASTER GO GET YOURS PEOPLE! AP or Authorised! If you can spend extra RM300... just go for the authorised set!

It's more about your luck cos I have a friend who has N95, his slider is good, not flimsy and creaky But just to be on the safe side, when buy that time, check first and you don't satisfied, just ask for another unit lor!

Do you have pouch in your box? cos mine doesnt have it. I have everything as you have, except for the Avaxx warranty card, haha! Mine is from Comsat the AP distributor.
Oh by the way... just wanna know one thing more, that small card... I have it too to registe as nseries user, I already resgistered mine... but what model does it say ah?? Mine is --- Model Number: Nokia N95-2. What's yours?

Yeah, me also havent take out the screen temporary sticker, also the phone so new I can't find any screen protector at the shop yet.
Ah then it's the same lor, mine is also Made by Nokia, inside the phone, it said Made By Nokia, which quite confusing at first, because I expect it to be made in China or something. Hmmm...

Yes, please charge your phone to 8 hours first before u use, altho I did play around for while la to check it's function and make sure all is working. But then I also faster charge lor... what power you have in the phone is pre-factory battery juice.

Yes it could since it needs realplayer to play this file and N95 8GB is preinstalled with this player.
I havent tried it tho, I try look for RMVB file and test

Anyway, if you want to play .avi, .divx, you need external symbian software for it, currenly I'm using coreplayer, it works perfect, i can already watch my Japanese series in my phone.

SORRY! Can't play rmvb files. The phone didnt even detect the file when I put it in the folder.
There shud be a way to do it but I don't know. If anyone know please share!

Avaxx is the authorised distributor in Malaysia for Nokia, but I dont think they take from Nokia Malaysia cos they are so slow. Most prob they take from Nokia Singapore. Or maybe.... zitron is the one who is slow to do things. Because as far as I know, no Nokia Store has this phone yet, those forumers who got Avaxx set is buying from seller in Garage sales I think.


As far as I know, Vodafone doesn't lock their N95 8GB. Saw some other seller in UK selling this and it is unlocked phone.


This is my first time I buy AP set, I always buy original. At first I scared also... but then after using it for 5 days, I don't think there is any different from Avaxx set that some of the forumers had bought. The only different is my phone is warantied by Comsat for 12 mths, and theirs by Avaxx. For now, I don't think you shud worry buying the N95 8GB AP set because it is so new, not yet enough time for ppl to con you by selling recond or second hand sets.

But it's always personal choice la I think. I'm relief that my phone is great and no issues at all. Everything is perfect and working as it shud. But if u really want the authorize set also, why not. Just be careful when buying AP, that's all.

p/s: Oh, the only downside I have with this phone is.... FINGER PRINTS MAGNET! Geeeeeeeez, I keep a phone polishing cloth with me all the times, cannot stand to see the prints leh.

The navigation works fine for me, so far. Didnt use it that much tho since i dont see the need to use it in KL. But the main thing is, I dont think the map is really up to date in a lot of places in malaysia. Unlike in europe, it has been used for a while. I havent had any problems with my phone until now, not that I know of at least. I am yet to try the bluetooth headset tho. One thing that irritates me is the camera setting resetted to auto settings each time u exit. That's really annoying, the phone shud remember the last settings. I hope with firmware update this should be solved.

Is there any firmware update available yet? The last time I checked there was none. Mine is v.10.0.021

Oh by the way, for the screen protector, I used the Dopod screen protector, it looks ok to me. Bought it a novacell.

p/s: Ash, what did you do then for the speaker to play music normally again? U restart the phone?

I saw a lot of ppl has a lot of problems with their phone leh. I'm glad I dont have any problems with the lights, slider, keypads etc. Touch wood la since I buy AP hahaha, which is really lucky I dont have problems. If not die lah. Do you guys know how to check where your phone is manufactured? Mine just said made by Nokia. Sometimes issues with phones more like where the phone is built.

Yeah, well, usual thing for nokia S60 phones I think, a lot of correction shud be available in the next firmware updates... I HOPE, especially the camera settings, it's annoying!!! And the flash website too.

This is how I access it:

1. go to that wifi scanning function on your active screen and click.
2. Then u will have 3 options: Start web browsing, search for WLAN, Switch WLAN scan off
3. Choose start web browsing
4. U will go to bookmarks page
5. Click options button
6. Scroll down and see settings
7. Then u see few choices like: General, Page, Privacy, Web feeds.
8. Click on Page
9. Scroll down and you see 'Automatic Reload'. You can change it to ON or OFF.

When I put it at off, the page will not reload itself until u do something like click the link etc. Some website will reload itself and that will result in connection lost, at least in my case.


Well, I can feel a lagging from when I first got it. But it wasnt bad, only 2 secs max and this is true for all smartphones anyway, at least this is not as bad as phones running with Win mobile OS What I did is, I try to keep the phone memory as low as possible and have everything stored in mass memory.



Go for N95 8GB europe version because I dont think the US version works in Malaysia as the reason why they come out that model for US is to make the 3G availble for them. They are using different telecommunication protocol than us, so Im scared than you cant use your 3.5G data package in malaysia if u use that phone. I might be wrong tho, would be good if u check first.

I didnt register it at nseries.com/mynokia since last month when I havent got the phone, I checked the website it looks unfinished. So I registered mine at nseries.com/users, based on that small card included in the box. It works, I think u better register there instead

I am not sure of I already activate the navigation license? Is it where the maps is? If I am not mistaken, when I first used any GPS functions, it does said 3 months trial thing for me. Well, it shud be 3 mths tho, at least that is what phone sets from Singapore have... as I also refer to hardwarezone singapore forum for guides, since my phone is from there.


Hmmm, I used the phone really a lot for the last 10 days since I got it, play movies non stop, play music while reading ebooks, playing with the GPS, takes pics, videos.... and I charged my phone on daily basis, usually when I charged, the battery left 1 bar.. I am expecting to just charge every 2 days when I dont play with my phone that much anymore esp on the multimedia functions.

I bought mine AP from Singtel and I can register at nseries.com/users. I havent register at nseries.com/mynokia yet but I think logically I cannot because my phone comes from Singapore. Maybe I shud give it a try and see, will tell u guys what I got!
