Hi,

From your specs you should be able to install retail with boot132 without much of a problems......just that you need to disable the onboard graphics and get at least a 9800gt or the older 86 or 88 cards. That should work great with your specs.

u could get mid-range GPU such 8600GT/ 8800GT
the work around is a lot easier than using ATi's GPU

this is my hardware
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-G31M-S2L
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 2.53Ghz 1066fsb 3mb
RAM: 2GB Kingston PC800 DDR2 x 2
Video: ATI Radeon Sapphire HD3650 512MB DDR2

is there a kext for this card? Apple Software Update seems to recognize it as a ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT and prompts me to do a Firmware Update all the time.

i couldn't get my motherboard to boot from the USB. maybe its the settings. USB-HDD / USB-ZIP /USB-FDD?

anyway i did manage to boot from the generic.iso Boot 132 disc and installed OSX Retail 10.5.6 but only AFTER removing the video card and plugging into the onboard VGA output jack.

my problem now is implementing PC EFI / Chameleon. from PCWIZ
the bootloader will jump into the apple logo boot screen and get stuck there. Nothing else happens after.

Haven't even had the opportunity to setup the other kexts - sound & video

Can anyone tell me what is wrong?

Boot with -v and see whats the error. Could be waiting for root device. After u install Chameleon/PC EFI, did you install the necessary system kext? AppleDecrypt.kex, Disabler.kext and SMBIOSEnabler.kext?

And your modified kexts are they installed in a separate folder or in the /S/L/E folder?

can i just use this from PCWIZ instead?

it has AppleDecrypt.kext , Disabler.kext and OpenHaltRestart.kext as default kext listed.
can't seem to select the other options eg DSDT patch or extensions.mkext

i assume the INSTALL CUSTOM KEXT FROM HD option is where i pull in all the Sound and etc kexts, yeah?

Yes u can use the universal installer by PCWIZ.

Yeah the "INSTALL CUSTOM KEXT FROM HD" is where u put in all the sound and etc kexts, since you say you`re able to boot with generic.iso, why not try install the kexts from the generic.iso exclude dsmos.kext and IntelCPUMDisabler.kext (dsmos and appledecrypt has the same functions so is disabler.kext and IntelCPUMDisabler), try it and see whether it works.

BTW, try to boot with -v to single out problems.

All hackintosh sifus, do I have to read all 51 pages to find out which mobo & graphic card that can be bought locally, best suitable for OSX86?
Ya I visited http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL_10.5.6 and found GA-EP45-DS3L is most compatible but have other people complaint about it also. So right now I am confused.
So far what is the best graphic card, source locally, do you guys recommend?

AFAIK, there are no drivers for HD4850 yet. The best graphic card supported by hackintosh is the 9800gtx+. Could get it working with full QE/CI with minor driver installation. Same goes for the 9800gt and below and 8800 series.

cheers!

Some good news if you are willing to wait for 10.5.7 to be release soon. There is HD4850 support coming for it. not perfect but works. smile.gif netkas.org posted some test on the 4850and 10.5.7 will support Core i7 too. woot!

Come to think of it, might as well go for the 9800gtx since it works brilliantly.

Interesting to read the 50+ pages. I am on EFi-X for the last 3 weeks and have not run into a single problem and now planning to build another Generic PC for my friend who is dying for a Mac.

What's the spec? Will it include ATI Radeon HD 4870 or HD 4850, seeing this card is now an option for the just launch iMac and ProMac?
