Ditto, my sister over confident with the IP rating on her Samsung and wash the phone regularly. One time some water sipped in and KEK the display IC got burnt. Another time is her Note9, the charging port also detecting water resistance issue, luckily the inside is still fine.

Yeah, my point exactly laugh.gif Given the phone prices of flagships these days, I wouldn’t risk washing my phone, hahaha...

My friend who purchased a new Pro Max 12 during launch day to replace his XS Max actually went and wash his XS Max under the tape with soap and water. Guess what? The display died after that and he sent it back to MacCity for repairs. He was quoted Rm2k for a replacement unit as his display was water damaged. The phone is a paper weight right now. laugh.gif
TBH I have washed my XS Max quite a few times and it's still running fine. Most probably the waterproof membrane gave up after time. So I'll make sure not to wash it anymore after this incident.

thanks for sharing this info.
my bad for my negative tone, didnt have any xiaomi before, not planning getting mi11 either.
huawei, its dead.
oppo , come on.
oneplus, too niche for normal buyers.
sony, even oneplus is selling more phones than sony.

so ip68 is belongs to flagship samsung and iphone.
but you are right, ip68 is really cool, i cant imagine using a phone without it.

i can wash my phone anytime under the water tap. or using a phone in a shower.  laugh.gif

No problem with that. But these manufacturers are getting on my nerve, turning yesteryear's flagships into midranger and only focus on the ultra model. Mi 11 is more of a flagship than the others but they never forget to leave out a couple of flagship features.

Last year when oneplus include IP certification for oneplus 8 Pro, many thought that was one of the features that allows oneplus to position the 8 Pro as a flagship, that's my point.

Anyway, the oppo Find x2 Pro is a real flagship (bar the lack of wireless charging). I have time with the device and it is easily among the top 5 android phones last year. Oppo as a whole doesn't impress me, but the x2 Pro was a different story.

Hahaha, will la bro, I will try the Nord before I get the Mi 11... waiting for the same quantum of discount that I got for my Mi 10 previously... so probably 6 months down the road or so...

But to be honest, there's no incentive to try the Nord - price still stubbornly high and no Android 11 still...

ip rating is just a number. with ip rating , it does not guarantee you can wash or submerge the phone under water of 1m for 30 minutes. phones with ip rating is much higher in price it only due to they need to do a water seal test for each unit before packing, this takes up production cost and time and need to set up a water test production arm, and also need to pay licence for using ip rating. When the phone pass the test, doesnt mean that it will be confirm water resistant, that y the phone manufacturer will not warranty for water damages. water dameges could still happen even if you just run your phone under the tap for 5 seconds.

The cost of doing ip rating will make the phone more by usd 25-35, which is a lot if you compare with the whole cost of manufacturing the phone.

For some phones basically they did the same thing as the phone with ip rating, with rubber sealant at places, but they decided not to spend on doing a production line just to do the water test and which will make the phone cost goes up significantly. This phone can be also at ip 68 rating, but they choose not to do the test because of cost. the only downside is that they cant market their phone as ip 68.

My 7 year-old Acer laptop is still running fine with 4GB RAM.

iPhone 12 only has 4GB RAM.

I really don't understand why Android need such large RAM to run smoothly.

Higher ram usually is more apps running at the same time. Xiaomi is known to have bad ram management. But then again you usually don't switch between a lot of apps

Yes... you have a point there. But since many buyers are paying top dollar for flagship phones, they would demand to have IP Rating. It's a measure to make phone manufacturers promise what is on their phones rather than blindly claiming for it. nod.gif

Its between the need to have and want to have. Again when I pay top dollar for a flagship phone, I want everything the best on it regardless of whether I may need it or not. If not I would have just gotten a budget/cheap phone instead. tongue.gif

That’s the way it goes with most “Pro” phones these days, larger screen, better camera and bigger battery.

Would probably be too expensive if it comes here officially laugh.gif
