Here's abit about me

- im not so into science and maths.
But Im able to score well in fact related subjects. But thinking out of the box is quite hard for me.

-Also im not so talkative. Not introvert, i can be outgoing in certain situations, around certain people, or when i absolutely need to. I can be categorised as ambivert haha.( google for more info yea.)

And here's my storyy.

Since i was kid i was attached to computers. I learned to use Photoshop, illustration and lightroom by just playing around with the software.

Not a pro but i used to design magazine covers for my school. And currently getting paid for creating social media posts for few business pages.

As i noticed that i dont get bored re-designing stuffs until me and the client is satisfied with the outcome, i thought i could pursue my degree in multimedia design. Because i wanted to enjoy my job. Just because i score well in exams easily i didnt want to choose some other degrees.

But one sad thing is that, im not so goood at drawing. I've never attempted to draw i would say. I play with softwares more.

Currently im in my foundation year. And im required to draw 😭 quite worried at this point of my life. And feeling so demotivated as i dont really have any experienced person to share this with.

Has any of y'all been in this kind of situation or do u have any kind words for meeeee, please cheer me up. Send help! 😭

Going out on a limb to guess here, are you studying at TOA?

Don't worry, if your chosen degree is going to be anything but Illustration you won't really need to be good at drawing. The foundation year is just that; to give you good foundations. Even if you can't actually draw all that well, it's good to have the foundations (it will help you a lot later on when doing the MM stuff). But at the very least, don't flunk any of the drawing subjects lah.

Learning to draw is not really all that hard. Lots of people enter TOA, LKW, etc with little experience or without knowing how to draw. Don't lose confidence, you'll pick it up eventually.

Uni is where you go to learn. That's all.
As long as you do that, your time or money isn't wasted.

Yeah, that is a nice idea to get a degree in design. I like designing and interior design, but I don't have a degree and I still can earn with it on freelance. I do 3d interior designs of rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, etc. And that is not hard at all if you are creative enough. I use Planner5D for the planning, you can try it even now. It has a very clear interface for users of all levels.

drawing is just a skill, you can always pick it up as you practice. since you have passion for designs and if you think you have creative skills, just go for it. try to do free jobs, just to evaluate yourself. and you will know if you really like it...

u dont need to learn to draw to be a good designer. you just need an eye for things that look good. chin up. art directors and creative directors that cant draw for sh1t but are heading big agencies.

design is NOT drawing. and drawing is NOT design. dont confuse the two. you dont need to learn to draw to learn to do graphic design or 3D design or whatnot. drawing is a mechanical skill that you train your hands to do.

the MOST important tool for a designer is their BRAIN. not their hands.

chin up. the foundation art class drawing would be good to learn the basics of proportion etc.

There are so many important traits that a designer should have, but i think drawing skills is just one of the lesser traits these days(unless your job deals primarily with hand drawn products). It's good to have this skill, but you wont die without it. Those who are good at drawing can impress clients by drawing impromptu images to convey your ideas during presentation. Those who are not good at drawing, well... we will just need a workaround solution either by pre-selecting pictures from the internet or any other creative solutions. In the end of the day, as long as you can bring across your ideas to your clients, that's a win.

To me, a designer's most important trait is to have a sharp mind with the ability to understand your client's needs, while being flexible enuf to reach a consensus by delivering the artwork without compromising a good design. I've seen designers with mad design skills but they are very rigid and unyielding in their design to suit their clients needs. They behave more like an artist that create personal artwork for themselves to admire more that a designer who create an artwork to suit their their clients. In the end, they will frustrate the clients, then frustrate themselves for losing their clients.

Anyway, do what you can so you wont fail the subject, but there's no need to beat urself up just because u r not good at drawing. A designer is a jack-of-all-traits and master of some. Just make sure u r really good at that something else and you will be fine.

as long as you can come up with a good composition. your tackling of colors, and designing something to fit a purpose.

doesn't need to be good at drawing. I'm good at drawing comic book characters, but don't ask me to do caricatures or real life illustration. Nowadays as long as you're good in photoshop and other graphic tools, you're good to go.

as long as you know how to make a product stand out, attract people's attention, you're good to go.
