chinese read is very easy, just need to put in some file to MS then able to read chinese. chinese input is depand on ur phone CDA, so far i only know 3 CDA got support chinese input which is Singapore version /8, Hongkong and taiwan version, but i forgot the code for hongkong and taiwan version.

So if ur phone are not 1 of the 3 CDA, u phone wont be able to input chinese, the alternative way is u may change ur CDA to the 3 CDA i mention and upgrade it, then ur phone able to input chinese, but this way is risky, even mine also no dare change the CDA, it got chance to make ur p990 become a STONE.

p/s: as i know the 3 CDA that able to input chinese not the lastest update version, and SE development team already say stop upgrade p990 anymore.

ya, currently R9G007 which mine is Hong Kong version able to read&write in chinese, just lucky tat the current CDA stil working fine on my p990i.

Here some review for SE,

im a user for p800 and p910, this 2 phone are really nice, no lag, no hang, after using p910 for few yr, i shift to wm5.0 phone, always lag, hang is common for wm phone, when first time p990 show up in the market, it over RM2500, but after few mth, it drop until 1200 and i get 1. OMG, this is call SE spend a lot time and money to develop the lastest UIQ3.0, it suck than p800 and p910. i should reliase that why the price drop terrible in just few mth. cheap thing wont good. This is because the phone got problem, that why p1 come out so fast to replace p990. All the world know that p910 is a very good smartphone, no lag no hang, but all the world cant image SE will develop a so stupid UIQ3.0 that even suck than UIQ 2.1 which is used by p910. it even suck than the wm that i use for 1 yr plus althought we already know the wm already so much problem. After that, i try to do some forum search, OMG all the world hv a same feeling like me, the most main problem is the memory, UIQ3.0 should come with internal 128mb but not 64mb, it means the phone structure design already got problem, hardwave got problem but software still able to update, so it still got a hope, because SE got development team for p990, althought p990 hv a lot of bug and problem, but there will be a new upgrade to p990 every few weeks. This is the only way i still keep p990, but one day, SE announcement that the development team already give up and wont be continue upgrade p990 anymore, but at the time, p990 still hv a lot bug and problem, it show like SE really not resposibility for the p990 user, it make all the world p990 user shout out this is our last SE phone. after few day after annouce stop upgrade, Because of the public voice power, SE say will come out 1 more upgrade but this time will be the last update, after few week it really hv a last upgrade, the upgrade solve 1-2 bug like the shortcut for the keyboard SPACE key long press link to phone making pad. however it still got a lot bug and problem. but as i know, the last update is only for few CDA version, so it means if ur CDA not 1 of the few CDA version, u still cant upgrade to the lastest, all chinese version not one of the few CDA, so chinese CDA wont be able to upgrade to the last update. this is wat SE did to us. i swear this is my SE phone.

the 2 thing good in p990 is screen big, AF 2.0 camera. too bad once ur screen expose in sunlight, it totally cant view it. good thing become bad thing jor. dont tell me ur p990 only can appear indoor. the bad thing in p990 is uncountable, i also lazy to list down. this is wat SE develop their top class phone. HOLY SHIT, i swear i wont buy SE phone anymore.

Due to my bad experience with P990i, and SE stopped supporting P990 for such a short time, I am reconsidering whether I shd move to P1i. I think maybe I shd move to S60 camp rather than staying in this UIQ3 shit.

S60 is actually a downgrade to UIQ somewhat. Because lack of touchscreen, and certain functions. The P1i seems to be okay actually, but for me, i will still be keeping my P990i because the P1i just looks ugly to me.
If i were you, i'd try out windows mobile phones. they might be pricey, but they are worth it.
S60 OS to me is no different than any normal phone OS from Sony Ericsson or Nokia, as i'm a N93 user now.

damm poor recently, that why still keep p990i, but i use it like a normal phone, normal usage only... once rich, going shift back to wm 6 ...

if u just normal use the phone, and dont mind how bad is it... u still can consider because for the cheap price, spend 1k to own the SE top class phone also not bad.... just forget the function thing....and p990 hv a nice looking too... i love p800,p910,p990 design but not p1 that follow m600 style, there are a rumour that p3 will be follow back p990 style.....

but if u dont look at p990 and plan to go p1, i advice u wait more long, i hv few fren using p1, althought the build in memory increase to 128mb, and solve the leak memory problem, and p1 consume more memory than p990 .....but it still hv a lot bug and problem, wait the development team solve it then only u get.... if still cant solve, p1 might be hv a bad ending like p990.....

and the special thing for p990 is got ap set, base on SE history, SE p-serials phone suppose only hv original set in the market. i still remember i bought p910 for 2599.. haih.. that time rich ma...

I have the same exact problem now. After surfing around on Google, our only choice is to backup all our files (EXCEPT user settings) and reformat or something.

Also, you might wanna make sure that your alarm is set to ring Once instead of Daily from now on. Some horrible bug that sadly SE has not resolved before it dumped future updates on us.

i had the same problem. i backed up the phone except settings and restored it. u will have to do mms, email settings and themes and other settings again.
