1M is only for the franchise, and its the fee few years ago

Franchisors is only take up royalty fee, while franchise is getting commission from the restaurant sales from franchisor. While franchisees will earn after deducting all the fee, rent, food cost, and labor.
They will purchase back to u if they want that location, is not just take back like snapp boom! Wasted 5million.

if the location not doing well, they can nego to purchase it back for a cheaper price from u, so in the end the owner will still be making some losses

Azmir said McDonald's® Malaysia was continuing its growth trajectory under the new Developmental Licensee (DL) ownership.

McDonald's® Corp announced in late 2016 it had selected Lionhorn Pte Ltd as the DL for its Malaysia and Singapore markets.

Lionhorn is led by Sheik Fahd and Abdulrahman Alireza, who bring 20 years of experience as the DL for the nearly 100 McDonald's® restaurants in the Western and Southern regions of Saudi Arabia.

Azmir said under the DL structure, Lionhorn will provide the capital necessary to support and grow the business, while day-to-day management of the Malaysian market would continue to be led by local leadership with the knowledge and insight required to driving business success in the country.



“It is important for everyone to know McDonald’s in Malaysia is operated by Gerbang Alaf Restaurants Sdn Bhd, a 100% locally-owned company and the largest shareholder is Muslim,” Gerbang Alaf Restaurants managing director Azmir Jaafar said in a statement.

The correct situation is usually like this.
The franchisees has failed to fulfill requirements to maintain the operation during internal/external audit. Restaurant is failed to maintain decent operations procedure because of owner has no interest to continue the business(because making loss). Thus franchise will offer to buy back (lower price) or find others franchisees who interested to take over with legal action as agree in franchisees agreement.

mekdi secondary is f&b company, it's primarily a real estate company.

Wanna open mekdi, make sure you're prime location, with space for drive-thru is a must (barring malls), no need think about the start-up cost dulu.

That's the reason why you don't see mekdi popping up like mushrooms.
