Hi,

just wanna ask is it normal that the GPU hits 80 degree celsius during gaming?

idle temperature is around 41-45 degree celcius
while im playing shadow of the tomb raider, temperature goes up to 80 degree celcius within 10 minutes of gameplay, and the fan hits hard and loud too to maintain the temperature

should i improve the air flow in the case?

currently i have 2 fans air in at the front, 1 fan air out at the rear
should i add another 1 at the front for air intake, and 1 at the top of case for air exhaust?

What model and brand is the gtx 1660 super? Adding the case fans doesnt really do much.

Reviewers often use SoTTR in GPU benchmarks because it stresses the GPU and is a good test for cooling efficiency. So it's not out of the ordinary if you're getting temperature spikes of up to 80°C, especially with high ambient temperatures. BTW, what brand GPU are you using? I'd say 80 degrees is normal.

Im using gigabyte 1660 super oc 6gb

I tried the Control from Remedy, also stressed to 80 degree celcius...

Yup, Control is another title that hits the gpu pretty hard. You can try adding extra fans but i don't think it's necessary.

80c is normal. You don't have to worry. Most probably your case airflow might be a bit restrictive. What case you using?

My sketch for adding 2 more fan

Or is it the case air flow design is bad?

Piece of crap casing. Front intake has a very little area for airflow to come in

Not only case fan. Depends on what you buy.

My friend's RTX 3070 gets hot and noisy on Lian Li PC-O11 auto fan speed on case fan. I had to crank up to 70% fan speed for case fans.

Yes, get a good casing for a gaming PC. Phantek Eclipse P400A is one of the best price/performance.

Can't promise it will work though
Perhaps the thermal paste application on that GPU is really bad? Don't know for sure until you remove the heatsink to see the TIM application

My 2080 Ti at full load on air-cooling also reaches 80°C. But that's a 2080 Ti. Yours should be a lot cooler
260 Watts vs 120 Watts

**No, Gigabyte does not void the warranty for removing the heatsink, as long as you don't cause any physical damage while doing so

IIRC, my zotac 2060 can reach 83°C max(limit and controlled by the software) when playing COD at 1440P, 79°C when playing at 1080P, cooler for other less graphic demanding game, so I guess also depends on how hard it tries to run.

to know this.. run your game WITHOUT any side panels.. do you see any drop in temp? if yes, then perhaps a better airflow can help..

but if you see little to no difference.. then changing to another case wouldn't help

From this review it seems that the card was designed in that way. You can try undervolting it or open the side panel and see if temps improve

should have do survey on casing before buying
initially was thinking to get tecware nexus m casing, then they shop no stock dy, end up just take this casing as the guy recommend me.

yesterday i tried over 1 side of panel, the temperature dropped like 3-4 degree

tonight i will try
1. install 2 more fans on top panel (air out) from my old rig
2. open 1 side panel
3. open another side panel

if opening the side panels really helps reducing the heat, then this casing will be wasted and have to get another casing

it will be either the gpu or the airflow problem or my room is hot

i have searched some online reviews playing SOTR with the same gpu, averaged FPS is similar, but their temperature are way much lower (ard 70-72 degree celcius)

Try testing without your side panel. But usually it's our ambient temps and the card design
