QUOTE(Jjuggler @ Jan 31 2022, 01:40 PM) If you are looking for long-term solution, including getting constant firmware updates, feature-rich worth of investment on a router say for the next 3 years, supported by third-party firmware like RMerlin's, then go for ASUS only. I don't suggest any other brand than ASUS to people. Avoid any -Link router brand, esp D-Link. And renewing contract just to get free ISP router aren't worth it. Fiberhome WiFi 6 router is just decent for home use, that doesn't mean it is secure incase if there is severe CVEs identified. My advice, go for ASUS, start to survey from RT-AX53U, RT-AX55U, RT-AX56U (im using currently)......, GT-AXE11000. I myself use a RT-AX53u, it's nice and all but it has it's fair share of bugs that need to be worked outP/S: I don't use any of ASUS's signature features like AiProtection, Traffic Analyzer, et cetera due to data collection. I use custom scripts that fits my needs. 1. Out of box firmware literally has broken PPPoE, you have to sideload file to update it to get it online. 2. Status page shows 4 cores despite only having 2 3. Settings page has options for selecting USB 2 or 3 mode, which this router only has USB2 ports 4. Sometimes the FTP/SMB server hangs itself and the CPU gets stuck at 100% while not responding 5. Installing Download Master on a NTFS drive gets stuck 6. IPv6 DNS is a mess: Router: set to Pi Hole Dnsleaktest: Cloudflare????? Device: says its using Maxis ISP DNS 7. one time 2.4Ghz radio just didnt work granted this is the lowest end asus on a platform they dont use much (mediatek) This post has been edited by PRSXFENG: Jan 31 2022, 03:59 PM willsiva liked this post

QUOTE(JohnLai @ Feb 1 2022, 11:25 AM) 2. MediaTek MT7621A = Perhaps 2 cores 4 threads? Dont think so, cause the CPU usage graph goes absolutely nuts when the CPU is maxed out when the ftp/smb server crashes.Oh, forgot to mention mediatek legendary issue with NAT acceleration. If you use WhatsApp, try to connect wifi for prolonged period around 3 or 4 days. Then you will encounter a strange bug where your WhatsApp call will be choppy and robotic. It just keeps cycling between all 4 "cores" maxing em out 1 by one, sometimes going to weird in-betweens like 80/11/9/1 Luckily I don't use WhatsApp calls much, and I reboot router daily. QUOTE(dev/numb @ Feb 11 2022, 01:09 PM) I'll counter tiao them by saying they don't include the "hidden cost" of me having to rent a OVH VPS and buy an OpenWRT router to enable VPN for my house just to solve their shit routing issue. The customer retention staff on the other end probably doesn't even know what you're talking about John42 liked this post

QUOTE(annoymous1234 @ Feb 16 2022, 03:49 PM) update. this morning made a report at live chat. afternoon they sent a technician, it turns out its a cable fault. the guy show me the reading of the signal, it's -34 which is super bad, he said it should be -25 or below, or at least -28, after he did some adjustment of the wiring, it become -30 which is just average, but important thing is i can get back my 100mbps and my remote desktop connection no longer lag. Btw next time you can check too by logging into the huawei modemConnect a lan cable from it to pc, then set your pc ethernet to obtain ip manually and set a specific ip range (can find on google, I think 192.168.100.X) Then visit 192.168.100.1 and login as telecomadmin/admintelecom (at least with maxis fibre, not sure if tm uses other) Then somewhere within the settings can see the fibre signal reading Some older modems may need more work to get in Not sure for FibreHome/ZTE brand modems |

QUOTE(sadlyfalways @ Feb 18 2022, 12:38 PM) Ayy thank you for the info! maybe due to ECSAlso I have one more question I recently changed to cloud flare dns and found that it is much slower than Google and some stuff doesn’t work. Is this normal or just a one off thing ? Even the YouTube homepage on my TV doesn’t load sometimes now with cloud flare Google supports it, Cloudflare does not basically it sends part of your IP along with the dns request so that you could be routed to more optimal servers with that said there are privacy concerns so some dns servers dont do it |

QUOTE(jerry123939 @ Feb 24 2022, 01:34 AM) TP link consider ok la, this year fiber home more lousy, and is from CHINA. Quite disappointing considering that other ISPs have moved onto wifi alliance easy mesh routers that you can mix brands with.Unrelated, I took a look at the FCC listings for the FibreHome router There looks to be a serial port inside, see pins labeled TX, RX, GND |

QUOTE(lsyp @ Feb 26 2022, 05:11 PM) I have just upgraded my unifi to 300mbps and was given fiberhome router SR1041Y. I connected my pc to router via ethernet cable 5e. When i check the LAN speed, one LAN was at 1000M but the other 2 was at 100M. Any idea how to configure the other 2 LAN to 1000M? make sure they are high quality cat5e cables![]() also check the devices on the other end and make sure they support gigabit speeds too |
