I myself use a RT-AX53u, it's nice and all but it has it's fair share of bugs that need to be worked out

1. Out of box firmware literally has broken PPPoE, you have to sideload file to update it to get it online.
2. Status page shows 4 cores despite only having 2
3. Settings page has options for selecting USB 2 or 3 mode, which this router only has USB2 ports
4. Sometimes the FTP/SMB server hangs itself and the CPU gets stuck at 100% while not responding
5. Installing Download Master on a NTFS drive gets stuck
6. IPv6 DNS is a mess:
Router: set to Pi Hole
Dnsleaktest: Cloudflare?????
Device: says its using Maxis ISP DNS
7. one time 2.4Ghz radio just didnt work

granted this is the lowest end asus on a platform they dont use much (mediatek)

Dont think so, cause the CPU usage graph goes absolutely nuts when the CPU is maxed out when the ftp/smb server crashes.

It just keeps cycling between all 4 "cores" maxing em out 1 by one, sometimes going to weird in-betweens like 80/11/9/1

Luckily I don't use WhatsApp calls much, and I reboot router daily.

Btw next time you can check too by logging into the huawei modem
Connect a lan cable from it to pc, then set your pc ethernet to obtain ip manually and set a specific ip range (can find on google, I think 192.168.100.X)
Then visit 192.168.100.1 and login as telecomadmin/admintelecom (at least with maxis fibre, not sure if tm uses other)

Then somewhere within the settings can see the fibre signal reading

Some older modems may need more work to get in
Not sure for FibreHome/ZTE brand modems

Maxis does provide but you have to request it, otherwise private by default

basically it sends part of your IP along with the dns request so that you could be routed to more optimal servers
with that said there are privacy concerns so some dns servers dont do it

wifi 6 but dont think it will be good, spend some extra money and get an Asus router, costs more but asus supports their routers for a long long time.
If you must cheap out, tplink also ok lah

Quite disappointing considering that other ISPs have moved onto wifi alliance easy mesh routers that you can mix brands with.

Unrelated, I took a look at the FCC listings for the FibreHome router

There looks to be a serial port inside, see pins labeled TX, RX, GND

make sure they are high quality cat5e cables

also check the devices on the other end and make sure they support gigabit speeds too

Maxis by default is private but you can request public without too much trouble

for me they didnt ask lol, but that was a while ago

Not sure on how much of a speed boost but the intention is to convert customers to higher speed plans

Basically say you are on 100Mbps right now

They give you free speed boost to 300Mbps for a month

The month goes by, you get addicted to the higher speeds
Then they call you, ask you like or not, maybe offer special plan to keep it at 300

You say yes, then they have successfully made you upgrade your plan, they earn a bit more.
