You buy from US using Amazon direct ship to Malaysia or using forwarder?

Wondering if there's any custom tax applied for high value items like ssd
*
directly shipped from amazon. shipping was 10USD
iirc sales tax is 5% therefore ~13USD

If I want to order an SSD to fill into the empty slot, what kind of SSD I have to get? My spare NVME did not fit there. Thanks.

So, it is something like this one? Is that SSD really that cheap?
*
doesn't look legit
whenever u see price diff between 1TB and 2TB is like a few ringgit apart can auto assume not legit
this one is legit https://shopee.com.my/Kingston-KC600-MSATA-...6300.2773931673

last year beli 4TB for ~rm1.1k, samseng 990 pro some more.
4TB SN850X, one of the top-end PCIe 4 SSDs, sold for 230 USD, about rm270 per GB. that was during black friday and december sales last year (I posted about these)

this year KC3000, a used-to-be affordable PCIe 4 SSD, sells for ~RM460 per GB

ssd n nvme also same price.. dem.

any option?
*
if u mean sata and nvme also same price, then yes
this is why next time choose mobo, choose the one with more nvme slots biggrin.gif

that or if u use laptop, or pc not enough nvme slots, pray it has thunderbolt 3/4 or USB4
if got, get an external nvme enclosure and voila (although u still can't get the full speed if you're using faster protocols like pcie4 or 5 nvmes)

My Kingston nv2 1tb dead for no reason. Now boot up undetectable. Which brand is more reliable than kingston?
*
uefi cannot see the drive no more? usually if a drive fails, will fallback into read only mode. cabut and cucuk back again.
what mobo? if gt extra slot try slotting it into the other (make sure to check mobo manual first to see if slotting into another m2 slot will affect anything else or not, usually it will e.g. disabling a few SATA slot or dropping PCIe lanes on PCIe slot). if confirm fail, time to tukar lor. so far, I tested and used samsung 980 and 990 pro no issue. wd sn850x is good, kingston fury renegade healthy as well. BUT they're not cheap

nv2 is dramless, no matter how many ppl have pleasant experience with a dramless drive I still recommend against it. regardless of brands, all of them have QC issues once in a while, in big batches. samsung wd all kena b4

lowyat review at 2024 still pretty sub par huh...only cover exactly 1 synthetic benchmark and call it a review doh.gif but I digress

better reviews would be https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/...v3-ssd-review/2 and https://www.techpowerup.com/review/kingston-nv3/ as always

I remember NV2 suffers tremendous perf drop the moment u fill the drive halfway...plus significant QC issue such as event 129. NV3 seems to improve upon that

unfortunately NV3 is still QLC...once SLC cache fills up it goes into QLC speed: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/kingston-nv3/6.html. my guess is that NV3, much like NV2, takes entire QLCs and make them into SLCs (2TB QLC -> ~500GB SLC cache), so I believe filling the drive more and more will make the speed drop more prevalent as well, just like but probably not as worse as NV2.
tomshardware also highlighted this in pg2 sustained write section

but I think this will be great value for storage usage that has lesser read/write operations than primary drive usage mcm steam game drive #2 lol

I bought a new KC3000 2TB but just curious why the firmware is different (EIFK51.2). The latest firmware AFAIK is EIFK31.7 which I updated recently.
Any idea why? I'm not technically savvy enough to know if there will be any issues here...

ur new KC3000 may have a different controller than ur older ones. yes, what ur seeing is kingston switching their controller (and perhaps their NAND too) again

looking into getting a 2TB portable SSD that runs on USB. It seems 2TB portable SSD are around RM800-900. Should I consider buying a case and use a M.2 SSD instead? It seems far cheaper

What are the pros and cons if any? Thanks in advance
hmmmm...I just checked the prices again and seems they are almost comparable....I must have seen some fake M.2 previously  bangwall.gif

how much cheaper u want for ur external ssd?
for nvme, kingston nv3 + a case won't be expensive. with lazada periodic discount, it'll get lower even. maybe during the discount period, the resulting price diff can even get KC3000.

unless u want to go down the amazon rabbit hole. Samsung T7, one of the best and fastest external SSD out there selling for 140USD at the moment. lowest could even go 120USD but quite rare. now amazon has free shipping to malaysia, so only need to pay duty tax (auto calculated by amazon).
with the drawback of non-existent warranty since it's going to be overseas warranty and local samsung will not entertain u. so might as well forget that it has warranty.

dowan Samsung T7, there's even cheaper ones such as WD and Crucial which are def cheaper than T7.

I bought quite a few SSDs from amazon because of the substantial price diff when comparing to local distributors. my 980 pro, 990 pro and T7 all came from amazon.

basically phison claimed that the issue was for their ssds that were using NON retail firmware. So their solution was, update the firmware. For people who had bought retail ssd, then there shouldn't be an issue for this? or if people had diligently checked for firmware updates (which not everyone does for ssds unfortunately).
that jay is click bait. He made such a big deal about his issue, but in the end the reason why his particular case had crash was due to a motherboard bios firmware issue. So for him, he downgraded to an older bios and that fixed his issue. So it wasn't even related to the ssd phison issue to begin with.

My point is, someone like jay just hypes the situation just to click bait and profiteer from. So should we be paying too much attention to someone like that? credits at least for figuring it out, but he was quick to jump on the blame windows ssd wagon for clicks. this serves non of our interests by fear mongering without proof  rolleyes.gif  just look at the title "worse than we thought"  doh.gif
anyway for the latest news, windows says it's not their fault, and phison says for them, just update the firmware.
if it really was sample ssds, then only a small number of people affected most likely reviewers (particularly those who never updated the ssd firmware)  hmm.gif

there's a reason why I don't watch jay's video anymore
he's just riding whatever negative bandwagon the ledditors and tech grifters are leading (so much so he's becoming a tech grifter as well)
