Guess it's an unfamiliar practice here in Msia. Basically these people prolifically enter competitions and over time become familiar with the mechanisms/criteria regularly used in these contests.

Had a friend back in uni who had a knack for something similar.. he used to enter those slogan/sentence contests (eg. "I like product xxx because.....") and won a few times (mostly CD's & stuff.. nothing fancy lol)

I've got a friend before with such looks, usually very crafty type. They diam-diam pretend stupid keep telling everyone around say no hope la, i losing la, everything also negative cannot this and that. But behind everyone quietly makan his way and take advantage when people turn their backs not looking.

End up hor you try to help him or kesian you become victim yourself.
