new design with flat edge like the iPhone 12...bye bye Touch Bar..with MagSafe charging connector? no mention of mini-LED and Face ID..

Heard that the source were quite reliable. Should we have a new thread about this? laugh.gif

MCK alone is already a very reliable analyst, together with Mark Gurman, it wouldn’t be too far off smile.gif

New thread’s up...

https://www.lowyat.net/2021/255564/macbook-...y-1080p-webcam/

base models might come with 16gb ram and 512gb ssd, and a possible miniLED with 120hz..
if it happens then it'll solve our problem deciding/debating the 8gb or 16gb biggrin.gif

Apple Silicon M1 was a quantum leap for PC processory. M1X probably meh in comparison. With 120Hz display, battery life might get hit in a way, unless the 14" form factor is bigger than current 13" MBP, which might see an increase in battery size.

Anyway, what I'm looking forward to is more ports and more than 1 external display support, natively.

And of course, if Apple could somehow fix the battery drain with USB accessories/monitor plugged in during sleep.

I’m ok to sacrifice some batt in exchange for 120hz, considering how long lasting the the 13”, the 14” should do even better...we will know in the next few days!

Maybe the next debate would be 16Gb or 32Gb RAM instead?  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif
*
there will always be debate regardless biggrin.gif but 8/16 definitely has more debates than 16/32.... coz most people who buy it for normal day to day usage doesnt need 16 but at the same time worried 8gb not future proof for the next few years.... 16gb as base will definitely be future proof for normal people for the next 5-8 years, or even longer..

Hi, plan to grab my 1st MacBook/mini. Got some stupid questions on MacOS

1. Do You all install antivirus? (There are two opinions, some said need some said need not)

2. What antivirus you use?

3. What casing you use for MacBook? Any side effect for MacBook? Like overheat, crack screen or etc

4. How long your MacBook battery can survive? What is the cost for battery replacement?

Thank you
*
i thought if put keyboard protector will risk cracking the screen? never put any for that reason...casing wise TPU rubber/silicone case will provide some protection... or the hard casing..

QUOTE(sp6068 @ Oct 18 2021, 03:32 PM)
New MBP rumour has it there will be a notch for the webcam on the screen. Probably it would come to the future MBA as well?  hmm.gif

I don't get why when apple released the M1, they basically put the same chip on the higher end MBP. Performance so close with the MBA which makes the MBP look overpriced.
*
i dont mind the notch if it comes with one, bored with current design they've been using forever sweat.gif

How if just put a piece of thin cotton? possible for that to protect the screen?
*
Actually I’m not sure, but if you open up the lid at least once every 3-4 days to air the keyboard/screen then it should be ok…unless you’re planning to park it aside for weeks then maybe can try a cotton cloth in between…I’ve seen many people with silicone keyboard case and their MacBooks screen didn’t crack also..sweat.gif

why bored with the design? the best things is, you know the MacBook you bought not so easily outdated mah (in terms of design)....still cool when you bring around..

if every year they change design, I will not support them liao.
*
the current macbooks are pretty same in design for the last few cycles... about time for a redesigned... its like every macbooks you see on the street has the same design sweat.gif

Now is in display camera tech yo. This notch trend has to die as it is on phones damn ugly now apple is gonna start to plague laptops with it. OR do cutout design.
*
Sabarrr it’s all just rumors..not necessarily getting the notch…we will find out in about 5 hours from now smile.gif

Nowadays a lot of mac rumors are spot on 😂
*
True that lol.. But I still trust to hold up till last minute.. things might be diff...just like the rumored AW s7 with squarish design.. even speculated till the last hour before launch mana tau came out same curve design as previous model..only bigger screen by 20% sweat.gif

I think a notch would be cool. One look and you'll know it's a Mac. Even my Mac mini now has a notch on its Viewsonic monitor due to the Logitech C922 webcam that overlaps the screen by about 3mm.
*
Haha I don't think it looks cool with the notch... Just that I'm OK if it comes with a notch.. Well, for a change of look but doesn't mean u like it biggrin.gif we are probably the minority who's ok with the notch though

Quick check, any noticeable difference in future proofing by upgrading to a 16gb unified memory for the 13 incher with 512gb?  I am researching and not much tangible afterthoughts
*
Upgrading the base 13” with 16/512 would come up to 7,199..why not just go for base 14” mbp M1 pro which will be a much better future proof machine?

the idea is portability..14 inch is heavier and bulkier...13 inch my sweet spot

Ohh yea..portability wins...14" is going to put some significant weight to the existing macbooks sweat.gif

Nahhh, the features and improvements of the 14 inch is too vast that the additional weight and thickness can be neglected. Also u will get used to the weight eventually. yes its heavier than the 13 inch, but its not to the extent that one will feel fatigue from carrying the 14 inch around 😂. Reviewers tend to exaggerate when it comes to the weight, same goes to the weight of the iphone 13 vs 12

Better processor and graphics
Better speakers
Better keyboard
Ports
Magsafe
Better display
Better webcam
*
Have to agree everything is better in the new mbp 14”, weight is definitely heavier but it’s not an iPad where you held on hand when use, the table or lap takes the weight so it’s not too bad, and that extra weight wouldn’t break your shoulder or arm when you carry them around in the bag…

Only reason I could think people still go with the previous model is the hate for the notch (which could be disabled in settings), and the price (base model vs base model)..
