Since the pricing is for workstation/server usage, so i think the price is reasonable, right?

QUOTE(a1098113 @ Aug 15 2007, 05:18 PM) Whats MCM bro? yorkfield is made out of two wolfsdale dies on one module... in which wolfsdale is the desktop version of the penryn and yorksfield is suppose to be the succesor of the kentsfield... iirc, it's Multi Chip Module. 2 dual core die pasted onto the same package, thus the reference MCM. |

QUOTE(ruffstuff @ Aug 15 2007, 04:48 PM) Just to make some correction, yorkfield is still MCM. Intel refuse on having native quad cores anytime soon. 2008.QUOTE(a1098113 @ Aug 15 2007, 05:18 PM) Whats MCM bro? yorkfield is made out of two wolfsdale dies on one module... in which wolfsdale is the desktop version of the penryn and yorksfield is suppose to be the succesor of the kentsfield... Multi-chip module aka > 1 die in a single package - not necessarily both dies are the same. First done on the Pentium Pro (core + cache). The XBox 360 chip Xenos is MCM (core + EDRAM), so is AMD's HD2900 GPUs (GPU + Ram). Expect more MCMs in the near future. QUOTE(Anwark @ Aug 15 2007, 07:16 PM) is the proc already available in Malaysia btw do i need new mobo or socket for this new Intel Processors i already tahan 2 years to build new rigs Socket 775 but mobo-dependent. |

cache dependent application like games will benefit the large cache, maybe around 5-15% improvement. But the largest improvement on Penryn that it has fully SSE4 support which the optimized software will benefit around 100% for example DiVX.

MCM = multichip module. I'm not quite sure what do you mean by desktop version of Penryn. Which indicates penryn is from mobile or server? To makes things clear, read back the dailytech articles. The simplest way to understand what penryn is, its a 45nm shrink of current core 2 family. Not specifically refer to only one chip. QUOTE(cks2k2 @ Aug 15 2007, 11:20 PM) 2008. Hmm.. 2008. QUOTE(X.E.D @ Aug 15 2007, 11:24 PM) 2008- Funny, that's when AMD goes MCM-ing 2 45nm Barcelonas! I don't recall any mcm-ing in AMD's latest roadmap. Is it Shanghai? Bulldozer? Bobcat? Did I miss something? X360 chip MCM spec is right, but HD2900 has discrete memory. This post has been edited by ruffstuff: Aug 17 2007, 05:11 AM |

QUOTE(ruffstuff @ Aug 16 2007, 05:11 AM) MCM = multichip module. "K10.5" is both monolithic Shanghai, and also Montreal, MCM-ing 2 Shanghais. At 45nm and AMD's relatively better stance on each process they migrate to, it should be good.Hmm.. 2008. Right after nehalem? I don't recall any mcm-ing in AMD's latest roadmap. Is it Shanghai? since this is a penryn thread... dun mind i ask something about c2q.... is the q6600 a real quad core? cause i read from c2dx's product brief.. it says it is running on 4 INDEPENDENT cores... whereas the c2q says 4 EXECUTION cores..
any sif00 mind explains to me?? thank u thank u very much.. This post has been edited by capiche: Sep 5 2007, 06:31 PM |
