FYI
penryn is never like itanium...
in fact.. itanium is totally different (heavily dependent on compiler)

QUOTE(Axuel @ Aug 15 2007, 03:48 PM) C2Q is going to drop price soon Btw, is this a processor really going to hv 4 cores? or 2 c2D ? This is what you call the true quad core... with 4 cores... unlike the transition quad cores produced by intel that follows the same structure as pentium D just with 2 C2D, thats all. Now would be really interesting though the competition betwen phenom and penryn:) And well not that the normal user is gonna get quad core at the moment, because its ridiculously expensive.....

dont expect quadcore priced at dualcore price.
Q6600 2.4GHz 8MB $25x E5410 2.33GHz 12MB $256
compare both, actually it worth getting penryn

Just to make some correction, yorkfield is still MCM. Intel refuse on having native quad cores anytime soon.

Those price are for server/workstation parts. Desktop will be much cheaper. Maybe just a little expensive than current C2D and C2Q.

Whats MCM bro? yorkfield is made out of two wolfsdale dies on one module... in which wolfsdale is the desktop version of the penryn and yorksfield is suppose to be the succesor of the kentsfield... Yes the penryn family quad core is up to 12MB cache while dual core is 6MB. Its Xeon anyway. C2D family maybe E8xxx

Q6600 2.4GHz 8MB $25x E5410 2.33GHz 12MB $256 compare both, actually it worth getting penryn You can't compare it this way. 1. Intel is expecting LARGE volumes of chips for this pricing, at least more than 10 purchases per Xeon order, and most of them from LARGE companies like Dell, HP and the like. What you see in retail is different (and probably marked up to a certain extent) 2. Happy paying the motherboard costs and switching to inferno FM-DIMMs. Both will cost you more than a ton, and Intel has a terribly large cut out of server motherboards, compared to even their lucrative margins on their consumer ones. 3. Quadcore Xeons were cheaper than quadcore Core 2s. And they came first. See point 2 to see why everyone balked. This post has been edited by X.E.D: Aug 15 2007, 06:39 PM
