i was thinking bout that too...
the mana base is not a problem as it is a 5 colour deck...
between ring and psionic blast which would be better?

btw yup u cant response to suspend...
but let say i got a teferi can i flash suspend rotfl (no rite)

*
Yes rite. Rules days:

502.59. Suspend
502.59a Suspend is a keyword that represents three abilities. The first is a static ability that
functions while the card with suspend is in a player's hand. The second and third are triggered
abilities that function in the removed-from-the-game zone. "Suspend N-[cost]" means "If you
could play this card from your hand, you may pay [cost] and remove it from the game with N
time counters on it. This action doesn't use the stack," and "At the beginning of your upkeep, if
this card is suspended, remove a time counter from it," and "When the last time counter is
removed from this card, if it's removed from the game, play it without paying its mana cost if
able. If you can't, it remains removed from the game. If you play a creature spell this way, it
gains haste until you lose control of the spell or the permanent it becomes."
502.59b A card is "suspended" if it's in the removed-from-the-game zone, has suspend, and has a
time counter on it.
502.59c Playing a spell as an effect of its suspend ability follows the rules for paying alternative
costs in rules 409.1b and 409.1f-h.

You can use the suspend special action for a card any time you can play the card. So when Teferi let you play creatures as instant, you can suspend as instant.

Just want to confirm wether the following combo works or not:

1. Have Thousand Year Elixir in play, cast Mangara, immediately tap Mangara to remove target permanent (put on stack), then untap Mangara with Elixir (put on stack), resolve the first stack, untap Mangara, then again tap Mangara to remove target permanent (put on stack), bounce Mangara back to hand with boomerang, then let the stacks resolve to remove 2 permanent from play, works?

2. Cast Oblivion Ring, when it come into play, put the remove permanent effect on stack, boomerang the Oblivion Ring, put the return removed permanent effect on the stack. Oblivion Ring back to hand, then return nothing and remove target permanent from the game, works?

*
Both of these works.

still does any1 feel weird with counterspells in teachings...
its hard to decide on accelerating with lens or keeping mana to counter...
*
It really depends on what you have in hand, and if you are on the play or on the draw. On the play I think it will almost always right to play the lens, as it gives you access to Tendrils and Damnation early, and also represenrting you having the mana to slaughter pact the stupid Tegg.

Even on the draw, it almost always right to play the lens too because of the argument above. The only time you might not want to play the lens is to leave counter open for Tegg/oona prowler, as these are the only cards I think you have to fear, though I have not played the new standard to have any idea on the match ups.

Mark,

This was regarding one of the situation on one of your games during the release tournament.
I asked this question to starcitygames and below is the reply (Chris' reply is in bold):

Hi,

I met a situation here during the release party for Lorwyn and would just like to know the correct ruling on this:

I have Dreamspoiler Witches in play, and my opponent have Drowner of Secrets and Judge of Currents in play. During my opponent's upkeep, I have 0 cards left in the library. I play Footbottom Feast in order to shuffle back all the creatures that I have in my graveyard to my library so I can survive for a couple more turns. While playing Footbottom Feast, I assign the triggered ability on Dreamspoiler Witches and targets Judge of Currents to kill it off.

My thinking is that since the triggered ability occurs while the spell is being played, so it will go on the stack above Footbottom Feast after Footbottom Feast is put on the stack, so the opponent cannot use Drowner of Secrets' ability to tap Judge of Currents to mill 1 card away in response to Dreamspoilrt Witches' ability as there are no cards in my library.

Correct.

However, another spectator's view (on a discussion after the game) is that it depends on how I put those 2 abilities (Footbottom Feast and Dreamspoiler Witches) on the stack
There is no choice involved here.
since both are trying to go to the stack at the same time
No, the Footbottom Feast was put on the stack first as the very first thing that happened when you started playing it. The Dreamspoiler Witches ability triggered when you completed playing this spell. This trigger will then go on the stack on top of the Feast.
so if I put the trigger ability of Dreamspoiler Withces on the stack first, then there will be cards in my library to be milled by the merfolk.

I did not call a judge on this as in the end it does not matter if he manage to mill that 1 extra card or not as I do not have enough damage to kill him/the remaing merfolks before he mills me to death.

Who is right?

You were.

QUOTE(heretic6 @ Nov 9 2007, 12:17 PM)
got a few questions here..

1. Can husk sacrifice to itself?
2. Just for clarification, eg. if an elvish piper taps to play its ability and i terror it in response, does its ability resolve?
3. Do creatures lose gating abilities if they lose abilities while in play? (eg. if a spell causes Faceless Butcher to lose its abilities until end of turn, does it return the removed creature?)
*
1. Yes. It says "sacrifice a creature"

2. Yes. The correct sequence when you play an ability (in short) is:

i) You announce that you are playing the ability
ii) You select target for the ability, if required
iii) You pay the cost for the ability
iv) The ability is put on the stack
v) You will then gain priority

So your opponent can only response to that after you pass priority after at step 5, and by that time the ability is already on the stack waiting to be resolved. (please note that in normal gameplay it is assumed that you pass priority after you play an ability/spell unless you specifically says you are not passing priority, as this is the many short cuts that is commonly used)

3. It will not return the removed creature (refer to http://www.starcitygames.com/pages/judgefi...words=faceless)

lol pity shaun...
anyways i remodelled my teachings deck...
runs better and smoother though still struggling vs permission dec (yes sonic boom is a killer to this deck T.T): -

// Lands
    3 [LRW] Island (1)
3 [LRW] Vivid Creek (looking for 3)
3 [LRW] Vivid Marsh (looking for 1)
    4 [10E] Underground River
    1 [TSP] Urza's Factory
    1 [TSB] Desert
    2 [FUT] Tolaria West
    2 [TSP] Dreadship Reef
3 [PLC] Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
    3 [FUT] River of Tears

// Creatures
1 [TSP] Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir
    2 [TSP] Vesuvan Shapeshifter
    1 [TSP] Brine Elemental
    3 [PLC] Aeon Chronicler
1 [FUT] Venser, Shaper Savant (looking for 1)

// Spells
    1 [TSP] Tendrils of Corruption
    1 [TSB] Gaea's Blessing
4 [LRW] Cryptic Command (ok looking for 4 but currently out of budget T.T so i'll try get them from tourney wins or drafts)
    1 [LRW] Makeshift Mannequin
4 [PLC] Damnation (need 2 more but budget problem T.T)
    3 [TSP] Mystical Teachings
1 [CS] Grim Harvest (looking for 1)
    1 [PLC] Extirpate
    3 [FUT] Coalition Relic
    3 [TSP] Prismatic Lens
    1 [FUT] Slaughter Pact
    2 [TSP] Sudden Death
2 [TSB] Psionic Blast (looking for 2)

// Sideboard
SB: 1 [TSP] Tendrils of Corruption
SB: 2 [PLC] Extirpate
SB: 4 [LRW] Oblivion Ring
SB: 4 [TSB] Dodecapod
SB: 2 [LRW] Shriekmaw
SB: 1 [TSP] Pull from Eternity
SB: 1 [TSP] Krosan Grip

any fixes but dun tell me to remove the 5 colour and be a UB teachings deck running 12 counterspells...
if i want coutnerspells i'll run mono blue pickles lol...
*
Just wondering why you need the psionic blasts? Are they there for a possible kill card? Else I think most of the black removal are better (sudden death, slaughter pact, Shriekmaw, tendrils), or even oblivion ring. And it is not 5 colour. Red is missing, must put in a red card!!

Void? Detritivore? Strangling Soot?

Also, got so many discard deck running around meh? 4 Dodecapod seems a bit of a luxury to take 4 spots in the sideboard.

psionic blast = tutorable removal, killing condition and most important of all is killing garruks!!!
oh i forgot i removed red which is meant for void and or pyroclasm...
should i add those?

Added on November 19, 2007, 10:12 ambtw the dodecapod well jz anti discard defence...
int esting they still pop up from time to time so this is my best response to them...
and cryptic command is a little hard to get the UUU mana online on turn 4
*
Oh yeah, forgot about those pesky planeswalker.

As for red spell ah, 1x hellkite lor, can also kill planeswalker (both the person type and the card type).

As for the cryptic command, what to do, you greedy mah, 4 colour deck with a 1UUU spell.

ya but normally i can acclerate into it thanks to lens and relic...
i was thinkinf molten disaster to kills those pesky morphs then extirpate them 1 by 1...
*
But I recalled a similar deck I played (that was during TSP block constructed days), I got wrecked by Ancient Grudge. Really a killer as the relic will never survive that.

Molten Disaster SM leh, very painful. Why not pyro, or even Rough//Tumble. Though to a certain extent it does not take care of Riftwing Cloudskate.

Still think that extirpate is not really worth the trouble as you are not actually drawing extra cards other than the command, teachings and chronicler.

Also my learning from block constructed was 2 tolaria west is not enough.... at least 3 or 4 is the right number during block. Not sure on standard as the speed is different.

I would at least think of adding 1x Careful Consideration. I play a typical UB Control deck and though I don't have Lens or Relics to acelerate (I run 26 lands) careful consideration is a must .
*
Well, most of those that plays the consideration do not play the chronicler. The deck is too tight to include both of them, without compromising other aspect of the deck like creature control, mass removal, permission and kill card.

careful is good when it get u wut u want...
and the discarding option is good to remove unwanted cards in ur hand (probably better than foresee for me)...

for my deck the mana would not be a problem thanks to relic so i think need the extra draw for lands...
secondly aeon is uncounterable card draw engine that force my opponent if a comtrol player to spend mana to counter it...
best of all is how u set up the board around him so when he comes in u get an open swing at him...
*
Just a word of caution, you will die to similar deck that runs detritivore instead of chronicler, unless your pull from eternity manage to resolve.

I agree with Camlok. UB + R for Detrivore in the mirror is evil.

Which version of the deck are you playing with Camlok? Some builds have taken out reactive cards like Rune Snag in favor of a more Proactive approach with Shadowmage Infiltrators (Finkel's). I still run the old skool. My meta is very aggro so I usually pack 4x Rune Snag (must use with caution vs GU Control Aggro) 3x Remove Soul, 1x Pact of Negation. (can't afford cryptic commands sadly)
*
Well, it was a borrowed deck for GP San Francisco. Was a block constructed. The winner plays a similar deck with a much better creature base for the meta.

My deck was something like this:

4 Prismatic Lens
4 Relics

3 Teachings
2 Tendrils
1 Slaughter PAct
1 Pact of Negation
4 Careful Consideration
4 Damnation

4 Finkel
1 Hellfite
1 Teferi
2 Venser
3 Vesuvan Shapeshifter

4 Tolaria West
3 Urborg
4 River of Tears
2 Dreadship Reef
1 Molten Slagheap
1 Graven Cairns
4 Terramorphic expense
3 Island
2 Swamp
1 Urza's Factory
1 Vesuva

Sideboard
2 Void
3 Detritivore
1 Strangling Soot
1 Slaughter Pact
2 Ancient Grudge
1 Tendrils
2 Sudden Death
1 Haunting Hymn
2 Take Possesion

I think this is the deck, might be some mistake on the actual 60 cards. I'm pretty sure a couple or more of the sideboard card was off. Full anti aggro and mati tergolek against control.

Went 4W-1D-3L I think. 1 draw to a R/B/g deck that runs ana battlemage (!!). 1 of the loss was against mirror, the other one was against U/W pickles. The other lost I cannot remember already.
