Short answer is cost. Shimano and SRAM both have entry level 12spd groupsets that bike manufacturers can spec for the cheapest bikes. It's more attractive to customers looking to buy a new bike because 12spd is the latest tech. Similarly, anyone can now upgrade to the latest 12spd groupos for the same price as the previous 11spd groupos. Just very normal marketing and sales tactics to get people to buy/upgrade.
*
I see. No wonder suddenly so many 12 speeds spare parts out there with attractive price some more.

The whole industry has moved to 1x now. 2x/3x groupsets is almost obsolete. Even the XC bikes are all 1x. Because of the big 50t/52t cassette, range is not a problem anymore even for flats. Just need to get a bigger/smaller chainring to suit your usage. Makes it a lot easier for beginners to learn how to shift as well since there is only one shifter to deal with.
*
actually for me, from 3x to 1x system is manufacture cut cost and reduce the material they use but keep selling the same or higher price. Some more can eliminate the old bike and force people buy new. They do like what electronic culture do. With no backward compatible anymore. This very significant when shimano introduce the MS hub.

Yes, I agree. This is how they force people to buy new stuff whenever they introduced a new industry standard, e.g. non-tapered to tapered forks, 26 to 27.5, non-boost to boost, etc. Change a bit of stuff or just tweak a bit. They will stop selling the old stuff so that you have no choice but to eventually upgrade or buy a new bike. lol.

To be fair, I used 2x before I changed to 1x and thought 1x made a lot of sense. It works for my riding and I really like how much cleaner the bike looks without the extra chain ring, FD, left shifter, cables. biggrin.gif
*
Hihi... no matter how business still business, they will think a way to cheat people buy new. Even now with eliminate the FD and extra chain ring but they still implement new cable for remote dropper post. LOL

Do you install chain guide in your 1X system?

Oh really? Maybe the early batch only made in Japan.
If you dont have the hub yet, just go 12s lah. biggrin.gif
Yeah, for sure the sunrace cassette is lighter.
Shimano cassette all steel, heavier but more durable I guess.
I have SLX M7000 RD with sunrace 46T cassette on my XC bike. So far no problem.
Sunrace quality is good. Specialized use them on their bike.
*
correct. So now seeking what is the best bang of buck component.

Currently i'm using Giant Talon 2 (gift from someone).
It's 8 speed causing my leg mau patah during uphill. But cant complain since its free.

Planning to upgrade to SLX 12 speed. Is it good enough?
What component do i need though?
*
Hmm... if you can not ride up hill change new group set won't help you much.

8 speeds 22 32 42 + 11~32T ?
Max - 3.82
Min - 0.69

12 speeds 36T + 10~51T ?
Max - 3.6
Min - 0.71

Something must be wrong somewhere.

I think nice already.
Cheapest m6100 RD+SL I look at shopee RM315.
*
actually after discount price is RM24x.

Last time I bought 1 pair SL M590 + RD M592 + FD M590 4pcs set less than RM230 but now cut cost until 2 pieces price is more higher. LOL

dont forget that darn pizza size cassette. Pizza size cassette price isnt the same price as those 32-36t cassette.

And the new 12s chain price.
*
yeah... that is the problem. All pizza size no matter 10s 11s 12s are significant expensive. Now if use M6100 below RM300 can get but if use Z903 then almost near RM400. Mean to reduce 1gram need pay RM1. LOL

KMC x12 around RM75 can get.

Hi all. I have been in this sport/hobby for few years but most of the time I only ride in my HT to tarmac ascend/descend and rocky garden. My end goal is to eventually able to go full DH if possible, so for now I am planning to move on to trail riding or AM.

Now, I have a few questions:
1. What kind of skill I need to acquire before going to trial riding? (asking this because saw people doing jumps and air)

2. Say if I really need more advance control over my bike like manual, bhop, is it alright to learn online or better to get a coach?

3. If I were to buy a fullsus, with the budget of 6k, what brand and model I can get or it is better to build myself?

Thanks in advance.
*
1. any bike if you dare. This is common answer.

2. easy learn. I also learn myself. Enjoy it.

3. if you able to sourcing every parts I think DIY you can get a entry DH/FR bike less than RM5k. If you buy brand new complete branded bike, RM10k also not enough. What I mean DIY is brand new parts and not any second hand parts inside.

Hi all sifus,

Can pls let me know what are the things I need to change/upgrade if I change my current cassette fm 9 speed to 12.

Thank you in advance.
*
4 things you can not miss. Shimano SL RD CS CN total cost less than RM600 now. The fifth thing is freehub, some freehub can just change micro spline like hope, DT swiss, koozer, novatec etc etc. That one no need to change whole freehub and just can plug and play micro spline adapter.

Wow, seems quite costly just to change the cassette. Think I might as well forget abt it.  biggrin.gif

BTW, thanks for the reply rclxms.gif
*
compare to 12 speeds road bike component release on Aug 2021 seem OK. Some more if you go to buy complete bike below 3K hard to get 12 speeds. Bike price already raise around June. I am not sure the new price tag can last how long.

Bike price raised since first mco. Now buying the bike is not the issue....issue is supply of groupset ....I waited 5 mo for my di2 to be delivered after order. Frame etc was just rotting at the shop until the gset came
*
I found no issue for those mid range group set. May be you aim for top tier or top second tier group set. First MCO no jack up yet, but very significant price raise for mid of 2021 eg. Polygon N9, raise almost RM2k.

still go up a lot in Q3-Q4 2020.

best price is after MCO 1.0 opening, many bike shop want cash flow sell cheap before they know bike fever kicks in. Around that time, one of my friend got a NEW teal color Polygon Strada 8 at RM2800 only, XT SGS RD & ori XT 11s 11-46 cassettle, SLX SL those spec.
*
No choice because many newbie want to get latest group set so have to clear stock fast. Your friend is the lucky one who get the good stuff. Shimano Sram keep push the 12 speeds to let the business run.

Actually I don't mind to get old 3 x 9s group set instead of the 1 x 12s for the same level group set. LOL

Besides my pizza size cassette arrived. It is heavy and big.

So you go for deore cassette?

Yes. Because Z903 no stock and only left Z901.

I think I also will go for CN-6100 instead of KMC.

UNO make good stuff.  Worth the money
I recently bought one Uno stem 35mm.  Light weight.
*
correct. But still need to beware the counterfeit product. Stem I plan to use is 50mm direct mount.

QUOTE(coklatua @ Oct 6 2021, 12:24 PM)
I dont know this before.
163x4.40=717.20
Yup, way wider.  laugh.gif
On climb, I dont notice much difference with the wide handlebar.
But when downhill, definitely can confirm more stable with the wider handlebar.

I think handlebar preference depend also on the type of riding.
On my XC bike, I dont use wide handle bar, I use 720.
Before this, 680. Too narrow for my liking.
780 is on my trail bike.
Wow. Very nice price there... Especially the cable housing.
The handlebar also nice, 35 summore.. thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif
*
Lucky I not buy the hope seat post clamp, those money already can buy so much stuff. The seat post clamp I bought really solid and robust, some more the washer is not plastic / not steel / not aluminum but is copper. LOL

Now stuck at wheelset because one of my rear wheel hub out of stock.
