I did use this tool, but those cheap plastic ones which I broke 2 of them while trying to get the tyres back onto the rim    I also did pump a bit air into the tube before attempting to put the tyre back in.

BTW, can pls give a link or where did you get this from?

I was changing those non foldable ones, which explains why it was so difficult to put it back on - lesson learnt. Since I broke those plastic levers, i used a few stainless steel spoons using the handle and managed to get the tyre back on, not after bending the spoons to 90 degrees and tearing the inner tube in the process 

emm....am not too sure if the rim is narrow or wide. The original tyre is 2.25 and i tried changing to 1.5 road tyre. I actually managed to put on 1, but failed at the second.

yeah man. really too many brands. just want to have a casual ride with my partner around the neighbourhood. don't need too canggih but at the same time want to get a decent one la at least hahaha

If you do a lot of enduro trail.  Those with steep and big drops, its a good upgrade.   
Initially I had the same thought.  Also on the weight.
Once I started using it and got used to it, it's a nice thing to have on your bike.

Hi ,
I'm New here. 

Just want to seek advice, I have this 26" bike , single speed . 
And it comes with stock all terrain tyres (like a 4WD kind of tyres) .

I find it difficult to ride even on a very gentle slope. Not even going uphill.
Akin like putting 5th gear (on a car) at slow speed and trying to accelerate .
Any suggestion to improve it? I am just planning to ride onroad , around the housing area.

Which one should I change? the rear gears or the tyres?

Okey here it is. Acquire it several years ago, with the intention just go nearby and tapao food. Then parked behind the house for years. Now in progress of restoring and upgrading it.



Closer look at the gear set.


I counted for the front crankset it is 40 teeth whereas the freewheel rear hub is around 14 teeth.

Is it possible if I change the front crankset to lesser tooth (say around 32 teeth) so that the riding effort is reduced? I dont mind losing the "top speed".
Right now it feels fast only on flat ground but even that also can feel abit of a struggle after a while.

the hell, 40t x14t on 26 wheel is like

36t 15t on 29 inch, this shouldnt be hard to pedal

infact I find that even my 38t 11t MTB is too easy on gear at flat ground.

And since he is not using it on off-road trails. Replace the knobbly tyres with road tyres.  Or semi slick.

I have one old yokota Yosemite MTB, with Columbus chromoly tubing...my dad's MTB.  I replaced the tyres with maxxis detanator since I'm using it on road ride only.

I have SLX 12 speed. If your ride is mainly consist of steep technical terrain it is worth the 50~52 tooth.
But if your ride is mainly flat, not so steep, I think it is useless.

In term of gear change speed, I feel no difference to be honest.
Just as quick as 11 speed.
But I feel the gear change is snapier. Maybe because the hyperglide+ effect as this time I use full shimano 12s groupset (RD,Shifter,Cassette,Crank, Chain).

If you want to save a couple of gram, you can opt for Deore M5100 11 speed with 11-51T. Still have pretty much the same range as 12 speed and still made in Japan.
Bonus is, you dont have to change freehub as this M5100 cassette still using the good old HG freehub.
12s shimano cassette use MicroSpline freehub.
