Just for reference, what I need to buy to have complete set? Any seller also can.

Thank you.

since you are aiming for whole group set and willing to spend on the most high end component, I suggest you direct go to famous bike shop order retail version XTR group set rather than those OEM version.

You can order XTR RIM set as well. Then it is complete XTR M9000 series. If order retail version come with so call warranty issue by Shimano Malaysia.

Alright thank you very much.

one more thing you need to alert. 9000 series XTR hub non of them are 9mm/10mm quick release. If you wish to use it then you need to use adapter convert it into QR to fit your bike frame.

Sounds like quite a lot of money spent on this mtb... why not just straight get a trail worthy bike with decent groupset?
*
LOL.. full XTR group set for full suspension MTB complete branded bike non of them less than RM13k.

I saw his MTB is full suspension foldable bike so I guess if he want to buy new bike also will aim full sus. That one is really costly.

Lucky the hub converter is cheap. Rm20 can settle. LOL

actually tourney 8 speeds group set very nice. Your tourney shifter is easy fire shifter?

In this price range really impeccable. Non of other competitor can beat it. Can share with us why you need to jump ship to XTR group set?

I've googled the bike based on the wheelset he has and I dun think that bike is made for the trails. Plus the rear wheel is a bolt for freewheel cassette and I doubt you could just swap the hubs easily or even possible without individual spokes to a freehub.
*
seldom look into foldable frame. Regarding the hub got too many solution to adapt. So it is not an issue for that. Just rim issue need more concern only.

Yeah its easy shifter. There is some issue at smallest size rear derailleur, if bike hard it will just go up and go down back again, been aligned and fine tune many times still cannot solve the issue yet.
*
what is that mean?

smallest cog unable to reach or ?

Yeah smallest cog, sometimes can reach sometimes cannot reach.

The RD may be already end of life. It is due to rust or the spring issue. Just replace it with 8 speeds altus or acera or old model Alivio RD enough. That one below Rm90~Rm70 can settle.

Went off road riding this morning thinking there should not be many riders.

I was wrong.

First time I see such a big crowd, so many riders on this trail.

Half way on the trail I uturn and headed out.
Too risky.

HI Guys, Good day to you all.
I'm thinking of getting back into mountain biking and planning to purchase my 1st bike after my last ride 20+years ago. I just stepped into my 40's, 173cm and 115kg, as you all can see, I don't work out much.
Need some advice for the following:
1. What I need do to get back into mountain biking in terms of physical preparation?

2. As mentioned, I've planned to get a new bike and planning to use it to get myself into shape and also do some off-road riding, my budget is around RM3k to get all the necessary stuffs and gears, I had chosen 2 bikes from the same shop, both share the same price and the shop is authorized dealer for both brand, hence warranty and servicing the bike will be easy. The bikes are 1. Marin Bobcat Trail 4 2020 and 2. Polygon Xtrada 5 2021. I'm now facing a dilemma of getting the right one. At first, I'm more keen to get the Xtrada 5, as its offer slightly better gear system compare to Marin Bobcat Trail 4 (Deore 2×10 vs Altus 2×9), and the geometry suits me better. But I'm now hesitated because of the seat tube diameter is only 27.2mm which is quite difficult to get the a dropper post in the future. So, Si-Fus and Dai-Gors, should I get the Polygon or the Marin? notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

Top up a bit get this one.

Hi Pretty23, thanks for the recommendation thumbup.gif , I was temped to get the D5 in the beginning when I started looking for options, but getting the D5 will break my budget of RM3k for getting everything (kits and gears) to start. All my old kits beside the trusty Camelbak are either not fit or not able to be use anymore. blush.gif

If possible I'm hoping to get a 29er and the D5 seat tube diameter still worries me as it is also 27.2mm. unsure.gif
Taking my age into account that a full sus will helps during off-road, but I learnt that newbie is recommended to start with a hardtail as to learn the basic skills. Or I'm wrong? sweat.gif

Thanks again for the input. notworthy.gif

First, both model you consider are trail bike even this D5 also same. A lot people or newbie will fall into gears component trap. No need worry for that. The most important is bike frame.

Trust me, as you already consider go off road, I believe you will enjoy this D5. M size 27.5 vs 29 a bit different. You need try yourself, nobody can give you advise because this is X-files.

Suntour fork below epicon / epixon grade all really suck. So consider both models also use XCM, you better don't aim hard tail. Sure regret.

Good luck have fun.

Thanks for the advice.

I'll give some consideration on topping up the budget.
I was thinking on getting shoes, pedals, helmet, gloves and the bike within a RM3k budget, seems like now i have to re-think it again.
*
Regarding your concern about the dropper seat post I think you no need worry for that if you just go normal off road. That equipment major use on AM/FR/DH. If don't have also not a big deal.

bike shoe is expensive but you can wear normal sport shoe also can, helmet depend but quality not sure. Original pedal come from polygon is platform pedal, you no need to change it unless you like SPD. But as new rider better don't use SPD off road. Gloves lazada and shopee tons of it with very cheap price and good quality. You can seek out of there.

After you really enjoy this sport, the first thing is to change the fork to suntour epixon or other brands more high end models. This one very significant improvement. Other parts just use until EOL then change.

Thanks for the advice.

Definitely will re-consider the budget. Kits wise, I had had quite a number of item in my shopee cart. blush.gif  blush.gif

remember check this D5 bike frame whether it is support straight fork or tapper fork.

And if you really wish to buy this model please ask the seller help you check the rear shock air pressure is that good enough support your weight or not? If not enough ask them pump more pressure for it.

unless I get it from a seller in Selangor,  JB is no luck for me d.

Remember to check every accessory which come with your polygon bike especially the reflector. That are CATEYE reflector. Front and rear (2) + (2) on wheels.

And now the polygon bikes are come with bike bell due to Indonesia law enforcement.

Don't let the bike shop songlap your equipment.

Wow nice.
Thats why I prefer to pasang sendiri if I buy new bike.
We dont know what thing that have been songlaped by the shop.
*
Other brand I'm not so sure. I only know Polygon. The accessory come with bike not bad. A lot buyer won't alert that small thing so at the end high chances songlap by bike shop. That reflector really good, not same like those MrDIY Sell one. You go outside buy the same thing you will know the price.

Just share what I know only.
