yes, it's better to make this clear for everyone.

moving on, gasket mount is the last of the common plate mounting styles that i wanna try out, and after 3 different gasket mount implementations, my conclusion is this:
1. each plate mounting style offers different typing experience;
2. each has own strengths and weaknesses;
3. plate mounting style is just part of the big picture of a mkb. other parts (e.g., switch, plate, case, mods, etc.) still contribute, with obvious effects, to the overall typing experience.

there is no such thing as style A is superior than style B. if you used the wrong parts, you can potentially throw away good qualities of the plate mounting style. if you looked closely, many are doing that.

it's all good, because for this hobby is entirely own preference-based. as long as owners are happy, anything goes biggrin.gif

well said bro notworthy.gif
for me im gonna try gasket mount after this

just take your time and try them out progressively, along with other basics like switch, plate, case, mods, etc.

this will help you shape better ideas on what's going on when you combine them together as a unit. you also learn how to choose the right parts, and control them to achieve desired outcomes.

this is tape mod explained. (you might wanna crawl comments for others' opinions too)

so, in short, the board is in your hands. just experiment it yourself.

edit: it's like what the video said, tape mod has mixed results, depending on how a boad is designed and built.
*
i have done the tape mod and the felt or form mod on my bottom mounted board.
i use the o ring mod on the screw also .. and yes can hear the keyboard tockier a bit ... but i am mixing 4 switches together though sweat.gif

lazy to do the holie mod hahaha

alphabet & numeric are my frenkenswitches, mixed with panda for the rest ...

as of now satisfied with the results wub.gif

yeah that's a good deal that most were not willing to skip haha

i'm testing a 'partial' gummyworm o-ring mod on two of my tray-mount reference builds. basically this just means i install an o-ring on the bare bone units, then install them on their cases. i didn't file the pcbs/standoffs, so there is no flex/bounce like the original mod.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

- this 'friction-fit mounting' is ok. it's screwless, but the bare bone unit can be secured nicely inside the case with just the o-ring. it needs some efforts to get the bare bone out of the case;
- in terms of typing feel, it does change, but marginal. (softer, with lesser vibrations, imo);
- the typing sound changed as well, but marginal also.

there are definitely rooms for improvement, e.g.,
- although i can use this mod with existing pcb-mount screw-in stabilizers, a snap-in, which have smaller foot prints, might be better to give space for gasket;
- there are also different materials, thickness, softness, and sizes for the o-ring used, although i suspect the differences are marginal also in terms of overall outcomes, compared to what i have now.

like i said, this is not the original gummyworm o-ring mod. it's more like a variant that is similar to the mod that uses tiny o-rings on top of standoffs in tray-mount cases, to provide gasket mounting effects. well, there is no magic here. the results from both are really with marginal differences only, compared to the usual tray mounting.

i'm ok with tray-mount. it has its own characteristics. however, i hope pcbs similar to merro60 will be available soon, so that we can have a different typing experience with the same tray-mount cases.

where did you get the o ring? and what is the inner diameter size?

i got mine from here at taobao, https://shop267743505.taobao.com/

the measurement is for 60%: cross section/thickness 3.5mm, outer diameter 165mm. however, while it works fine, o-rings with this outer diameter causes tensions to switches. it's better to get the ones with longer outer diameters.
*
i bought one off shopee and it was short sweat.gif
found one in tokopedia but then then need forwarder and the shipping cost was not worth it whistling.gif

165mm yours one is elastic to be pull around the board?

Hi, recently looking at coiled cable, by checking the price some of it really not cheap. Is that any advantages, switching the original cable to coiled cable? Or coiled cable is only for aesthetic? Any performance or better connectivity by switching to coiled cable?
*
the cheapest maybe from Akko ... they have good aviator cable options if you want to try

if you have a solder iron and heatgun , why not try making yourself one ?

I made like 10+ coiled cables myself and they only cost me like 15 ish ringgit each . They come out super nice as well. Not to mention how you can sell them . It takes a while to practice and experiment but its definitely worth it . You can get 3 M braided usb c cables super cheap from shopee and the work flawlessly .
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

here's some that I've made. Steel straws work very well for coiling. If you dont have a heatgun then an oven would work as well.
*
then why do you make and sell them to us for rm30 hahaha whistling.gif

Too lazy , i did a small 'gb' for those cables , the amount of work that goes into making them is a lot , i just make them for myself for now.

There's a reason why people are selling them for a ton . But i really do encourage people getting into making their own coiled cables  tongue.gif  , its satisfying
*
yes the effort makes them becoming more than RM100 ++

You can easily nett a 1000% margin if you're one of the top cable makees. It's all about time and work flow management if you're going to mass produce them. As I said it's more to trial and error, you'll begin to understand how the process goes and how you'll know where to cut time. It can be a legitimate business if youre really serious about it.

Took me half a day just to make one initially. Now I can say that I could make 5 in the same period of time. But for now I'd rather do something else than make cables. I 'mass produced' them for my friends anyways, I charged less than 50 for each.
Yup, if you know a person who makes high quality custom cables for that much, it's probably worth it. I've seen some Sellers with absolutely abysmal solder work, you pay for quality and attention to detail. Some even not double coiling their cables.
*
what you are charging is worth the payment for your effort ... maybe i will buy from you soon icon_rolleyes.gif
