This happened around 2000s. I have an elder sister who is my parents’ favourite due to being the only daughter in the family. Throughout our childhood, my dad always work extra hard to give her whatever she wished for. As such, when she completed high school and wanted to enrol in a new University which was trending back then due to government’s MSC initiatives, my dad got her enrolled into her preferred course there and she had to stay in their hostel due to the distance between our home and her uni.

Before she left for uni, my parents held some prayers at home to pray for her wellbeing while away from the family as well as celebrate the occasion as she was the first person to head to uni in the family. The next morning, all of us in the family went to the uni to send her off for her orientation and enrolment. My mom was crying as the reality hit her that she would need to be separated from her daughter for now. My dad was the proudest man, talking to the other parents about sacrificing now to see their child being successful in the future. As usual, some nagging and advice from my parents to me on the way back home since I am the failed product in the family, telling me to take inspiration from the uni visit that day.

My dad is a prudent person with his money, he still is. He pays his dues exactly on the due date, makes the monthly groceries purchases from different supermarkets as he know which one has cheaper price for those particular items and asks 101 questions if we ask him for additional money for fees etc. After my sister joined the uni, he would drive over every weekend to meet her, my mom bringing home cooked food. They would spend the whole day with her and before leaving, my dad would give her money for expenses. The amount is huge for our family, especially my dad. In between, she asked for a desktop PC for her studies, he went to lowyat and got her the best PC that was recommended to him. On her second year, she wanted DSLR camera, again he went to lowyat and got her the best set that was recommended for him. She requested for mobile phone, and he bought her a colour screen while he maintained his Ericson R320, hotlink started packs were expensive those days but he got her those too. His concept was simple, priority is to spend on education 1st, the rest comes second. Due to all these expenses, he would run short of cash and take train to work instead of driving.

Three years went by with the same routine for him and he was puzzled as to why she have not shared any news of graduation. One working day, he decided to drive to the uni and check with the office. When he reached the admin office, they asked for her details, and said they do not have her record in their active directory. He requested to meet the principal. He came home from the uni and just sat at his usual chair in the living room and did not talk to anyone that day. Next day I found out from my mom that my sister had dropped out from uni on the second year. She had disciplinary issues and even slapped one of the lecturers. All these while she had been staying in a condo nearby and put up an act whenever my parents came over to make them think she was studying hard. My dad was devastated and could not believe she did that to him.

Few days passed by and he finally decided to call her and ask her to pack up. He would pick her up and bring her back home. She got back home that day and already know that her secrets were already out. Myself, preferred staying in my room most of the time, unable to bear seeing the sadness in my parents face. My sister, she stayed in her room despite my parents waiting for her explanation. In the end, my dad had to make the first move and ask her what happened. While he became loud due to obvious reasons, my sister was surprisingly being rude to him. This was something new to all of us in the family since we were brought up not to talk back to our parents.

Her behaviours were weird, me being a person who always pray, could feel she is not the same person from 4 years ago. Since my room was next to hers, I was always living in fear. I can lock my room door, but the bathroom was shared and had access from both rooms. Middle of the night, I would wake up and hear she is making lizard clicks/ noise in her room. I don’t know if she was awake or doing this in her sleep. Some other nights, I would hear strong breathing sound in her room, not able to distinguish it is her or someone else as the voice does not seem to be hers. Most of the time, there were knocking sounds from her study table even though her room lights were turned off which I knew due to the gap under her door. I lost a lot of sleep during this period and whenever I need to leave my room, I would walk as fast as I can and don’t look in the direction of her room.

The mood in the house changed drastically over the next few weeks with constant arguments between my parents and sister. Sister decided to find a job with the reason, she will save money and pay for her education here after. She started going to work, which I doubted, she looked more like meeting her ex-MMU friends for hangout sessions. Coming back late every night, sometimes drunk. My dad will lock all the doors and gates before she comes home and leave her outside. My mom, she will tell me before heading to bed, to ensure I let her in once she comes back. My mom can’t do it since my dad will know if she gets up and leave the room. For me, it was a huge challenge, not only to open the door and padlock without making any noise, but also to disarm and rearm the motion sensor alarm system which goes on when there is movement in the living room.

From a different point of view, my parents don’t know the stuff I am hearing at night coming from her room. Whenever I take her to her room when she is back late, I hate the feeling that she gives me, like she knows that I know about the activities in her room. But I had no other options, my other siblings were too young to get involved in all these.

During this time, my mom fell ill, she had to go for operation to remove tumour. While she way away in hospital, one night my mom called me and told me to protect my sister. That my dad just left hospital and has had enough with my sister coming back late and wanted to kill her that night. One of my neighbour coincidentally left their house keys with me, asking me to check on the house and help water their plants. I quickly ran out from the house before my dad reach home, and took my sister to that neighbours house and told her to wait till dad goes to sleep. As usual, while sitting at their porch, I was scared and started reading all the religious scriptures which I had memorized in order to protect myself from her. While doing that, I noticed tears start falling from my sister’s eyes. The more I was reading those scriptures, the more she started crying uncontrollably. I just told her to turn to god and took her back home.

My mom was discharged from hospital and my dad brought her back home that day. He also bought a single bed for her to sleep in the room at ground floor as it would be difficult for her to climb stairs during her recovery. I set up her bed and went up to get her pillow. While changing the pillow case, since I need to squeeze it into the new case, I felt there is something inside the pillow. Thinking it was a label left in the sponge during manufacturing, I was looking around the pillow to also see if there is any stitching which had been opened prior to this to insert something into the pillow. All the stitching looked normal and not tampered. I took a pair of scissors and opened one part of the stitching and reach in with my hands to pull out that piece of cardboard feeling thing. When I touched it, immediately I knew it was plastic.

My heart was beating was as I took that plastic out, I could see it was a white paper, well folded into a small rectangle and wrapped with the see through plastic and contained some kind of sand and black dust in the plastic. Like I said, I used to pray a lot and not scared of such things. I cut open the plastic in my parents’ bathroom to ensure the dust and sand falls into the toilet bowl. Threw away the plastic and opened the paper. It was a hand drawn image of a huge man looking thing, with black face, large canine teeth and wearing an oversized robe. That image was in the centre of the A4 paper and the remaining empty spaces were filled with some unknown words, not from the four major language spoken in Malaysia. I went down and asked my mom if she knew about it, she had no idea.

Up to that stage in my life, neither me nor any of my family members believed in black magic, and myself being the most pious in the family always believed god have me well protected. Hence the reason why I chose to burn that paper outside our house, even if I brought it up to my dad, there is no use since he don’t believe in such things. My heart was still beating fast while holding the paper, hand trembling and feeling weak. Stomach felt empty suddenly and hungry. The feeling subsided slowly after the paper was burnt. Until today I don’t know if this paper had anything to do with my sister. There was no other explanation to that paper and I doubt a child would do anything like that to its mother.

As the daily arguments between my dad and sister were escalating, one day, she decided to pack her clothes and leave the house. When she reached the living room, my dad told her to get back inside and don’t do such things. To which she responded with vulgarity. That’s the first time vulgar word was used in my family and in that house. My dad sat back into his chair, totally devastated. My mom crying and begging her not to leave the house. She was not bother, she grabbed the house keys and headed towards the door.

That’s when my mom shouted my name and asked me to hold her back. I ran towards her and tried to pull her in, I was more athletic than her and taller than her, somehow I couldn’t even move her an inch. While I grabbed both her arms and tried to pull her back in, it felt like I was pulling a wall, this is despite me using all my might. That’s when she turned and looked at me, straight into my eyes, and said “Let go of me” and it was with a man’s voice. I was swallowing my saliva and my legs were trembling, building my courage to continue pulling her in, I read my religious verses and finally managed to her into the gated compound. Till today I remember that look and the voice.

Immediately, I took the opportunity to lock the gate and keep her inside the house. As I walked away, she was turning and continuously staring at me. Breathing heavily and face fxxcking red. That’s when I decided, this is something else, and whatever it is, it hates me to the core. Told my mom what I think is happening and she gave me the phone directory and told me to call one of my uncle who is in police force to take her away temporarily and keep her with them till the situation subsides.  I turned and looked at my dad, by then I know he has given up on her and do not wish to get involved in this. So I called my uncle and told him everything that happened. He came after his duty that night and took her away.

This part onwards, I was not able to witness whatever happened with my own eyes, hence this is compilation of what I gathered from my cousins and uncles of what took place while my sister was staying with them.

My mother’s side family would usually gather at our family prayer centre on Saturday. My uncle took my sister along to the centre that weekend. Various Religious Heads (hereafter referred to as RH) from within and outside of Malaysia would also be there to lead prayers for those who come from surrounding places. That particular day, after the prayers & everyone left my sister and cousins did cleaning work. After which, they sat around the visiting RH, listening to his stories and sermons.

Suddenly, the RH told everyone to leave temporarily and let him talk to my sister and my eldest cousin. He told my sister that he knows she wants to get out of that place and at the same time asking him for his help. He used his knowledge to understand what happened without my sister telling him about the past.

He told her that someone did black magic on her and the person’s name is Mr H. When my cousin sister was telling me this, I know who is Mr H, used to see my sister’s phone ringing always especially at night with this Mr H’s name showing on the phone. I figured back then that it was her boyfriend and I had also seen him twice before when visiting my sister, he never liked me, like our energies clash whenever we are around each other. Never really bothered about it until the moment RH spoke about BM.

He told my sister and cousin about how he did it. Even though he is not from around the Uni area, he could clearly describe the important places around there. He said Mr H developed a liking for my sister during the first year in college and always asked her out with a bunch of course mates. They would go out frequently in a group to the same restaurant each time, and this is not so close to the uni. Eventually he gained her trust till she was daring enough to go out with Mr H alone. Mr H was close to that restaurant workers and in one of the occasion had given something to the worker to spike her drink. RH said that the first attempt failed due to she was still although not perfect, was praying once or twice a week.

Mr H went back to his shaman and was told to get closer to her and make her busy that she forget prayers totally. After a while, the shaman gave him another item to put into her drink, Mr H repeated the same modus operandi and took her to that restaurant and this time managed to get the BM to work. Once she was in Mr H’s control, he took her to pubs and bars almost every night and made her spend all her money (which was given by my dad). Oh, by this time, we have also realised that the desktop and DSLR camera were missing and found out that she have sold it and gave the money to Mr H. That’s how Mr H ensured he got the continuous flow of cash from my sister and she no longer need to spend time in Uni since she don’t have the tools to study and was always not sober. When RH was telling this story, my sister was able to recall all these incidents and admitted that what RH was saying did happen. RH even went into details of how the restaurant looked, where they usually sat and the particular worker who always handled their orders.

After identifying the problem, RH requested my uncle to come in and explained that she required some treatment in order to ward off the BM. He requested for my dad to come and perform the ritual with her. Right… the answer was no, no one even dared to ask him. So my youngest uncle (Mr G) who my sister was close with, decided to step in and be the fatherly person to perform the ritual with her. RH told them to prepare with another set of clothes and provided a list of items to bring along for the ritual which is to be conducted at Pantai Morib the next evening during sunset. I don’t know if the time of the day had any special reason or it was because that is the only time he was free.

RH called a lady (Ms L) who he knows and told her to be there the next day. Before any of the process started, he explained to my sister and Mr G, that since my sister is a girl he brought Ms L to perform the ritual as it would be inappropriate for him to conduct it. He started doing the prayers at the centre and slowly went into meditating pose, not moving at all and eyes closed. Then Ms L stood up and started talking like RH, what we understood is RH is now inside Ms L and he will use her body to conduct the ritual. He asked my sister and Mr G to take all the items he has requested and load into the car and start driving to Morib.

Once they reach Morib, it was sunset, Ms L placed a cloth on by the beach side and asked Mr G and my sister to sit. Ms L started chanting and gave something to Mr G to pour around the place they are seated in a circular shape. Ms L continued chanting accompanied by only a lamp to ensure visibility in the darkness. As she was doing the prayers, in that darkness, they can see some animal eyes lurking from the trees coming towards them. Ms L told the two of them to not panic and explained that Mr H is already aware of what is happening and is performing counter ritual to fight Ms L from another place. The animals are there to scare them and stop them from doing this ritual. The animals looked like reptile, maybe monitor lizard or snake, barely visible except for their eyes in the darkness. Ms L summoned some dogs to chase after the reptiles and keep guard around them while she complete her ritual.

All three of them back to focus on the ritual, Ms L told my sister to lie down and turn back. At the back of her knees, there was a mole which according to her was not there before the BM. Ms L bite that mole and started sucking while my sister was groaning in pain. After a while, she took one of the egg from the tray Mr G bought based on the list provided by RH and spit on it. She told Mr G to take the knife she requested him to bring and cut a small hole over the egg without breaking it. She continued sucking the mole until the mole was no longer visible and there was no sign of a mole was there at all, no blood, nothing. She spit on a few more eggs.

After Mr G cut each eggs, she poured the content into a bowl, and each egg contained 3 to 5 needles most of them rusted. She packed those needles and told them that she will bring it back to her prayer place to dispose it and told both of them to wash themselves and change into new clothing. The one which was worn during the ritual and all the items brought for the ritual was burned on the beach sand with petrol. Whatever remaining from the fire which could not be burned like the knife was packed in a bag and disposed in trash after the fire cooled down.

They went back to the centre, the RH was still in the same position when they left. Ms L fainted and both RH and Ms L gained consciousness after a while. RH gave my sister some talisman to tie around her waist for the next 6 months and left with Ms L as he said his work is still not completed.

After about a week, my mom asked my dad if it is fine for my sister to be back home to which he said yes. She came back and took a long time to recover her relationship with my dad. My dad on the other hand was never the same with us again after that incident.

My sister, she went on to work and fund her own studies which she eventually graduated from. She was depressed temporarily as her school mates were all already going through their career while 3 years of her life was wasted. Eventually she lost touch with them. Mr H never contacted her ever since the night of the ritual, which was also good for her.

For me, I started believing in the existence of paranormal stuff. I realised, no matter what religion you are, if u pray to god, you will have some kind of protection in dangerous times. The moment u stop is when people have it easy on taking advantage of u. This was my first ever experience with paranormal after which I had a few others.
