I love the laidback vibe of Kanazawa but when I had to move down to Kanto, I chose Yokohama city as the best compromise
kanto basically very busy and "cold", can feel lonely here eventhough there's so much ppl everywhere

IMO, the best jap curry rice originated from Kanazawa, personal fav is champion curry
Go Go Curry inside Kanazawa Station. biggrin.gif

Note:

Tsuruga Station Shinkansen & Limited Express "Thunderbird" & "Shiraga" gap was 5 minute. Too many people file complain to JR West. Now new gap had extended to 8 minute.

Anyone has any guide on Tokyo's metro (approx fare per ride)? Not sure if the RM46 3 days unlimited subway will be useful.

Don't want to end up buying something that I cannot fully utilize.

Approx 200-300 yen per way. One day take 4 times above already worth the price.

was buying some bus ticket, and noticed that the highway bus tickets in japan is quite pricey

nagoya to shirakawago - 3800 yen (2.5 hours)
shirakawago to takayama - 2600 yen (1 hour)
takayama to kanazawa - 4000 yen (2 hours)
*
Compare to Train. Nagoya to Takayama already 5940 yen. Bus is cheaper.
If you earn Yen and spending Yen....3800Yen for Japanese is like Rm38

Nohi Bus dominate Takayama - Shirakawa - Toyama/Takaoka/Kanazawa. Price no competition, slightly expensive.

going to Kurobe Alpine Route in mid May.

anybody got any snow/winter shoes to recommend? maybe thinking of walking around up in the snow wall, and worried that it might be slippery if I bring my normal shoes.
*
Timberland boot. It will never fail. But it will make your feet smell like garbage after whole day.

Hi, for those bought tickets under ANA and going to CTS from KUL, do you guys have a layover in HND? If so, for an overnight layover (10pm -> 6am nxt day), am I allowed/required to clear immigration? Also, any suggestions on where can I sleep/hangout till my next flight out?

Flight code:
NH 886
NH 987
*
You need to clear Immigration because you are doing International to Domestic transit. After clear immigration, you need go over Domestic section which is Terminal 2. From International Terminal take free shuttle bus / Monorail to Terminal 2. Terminal 1 are JAL territory.

You just find less people spot inside Terminal 2 and rest on floor /bench. By the time, you reach Terminal 2 will be around 11pm.....90% of shop inside Terminal 2 already closed.

Do I need to collect my bags? Since the whole flight is under ANA, will they check in through my final destination?

Also I just realised my return flight is quite packed (NH 082 -> NH 885 ), will it still be possible to catch it and how about baggage? Will it be checked through?
*
Yes. International change to Domestic, you need to collect luggage and go thru custom check. Head to terminal 2 and re-check in luggage.

From Domestic to International by ANA.
The main conditions for through baggage are as follows:
1. Meeting the connecting time
2. Connecting at the same airport
3. Connecting on the same day
4. The connecting flight must be operated by ANA or a through baggage partner airline
5. The itinerary is included in a single ticket

If you meet these condition. From Sapporo to KL. you no longer need re-check in luggage at Haneda.

International > Domestic...100% need re-checkin no matter what reason.

As frequent flyer, I give PAL 6/10 if using A321 Neo with latest IFE system. 4/10 Medioce if using old aircraft without IFE. Premium airlines without IFE are big no for me.

Because of frequent flyer, Philipine Airlines are not part of any alliance so I can't collect any miles from it.
PAL for me was last option to Japan, as working trip, company always last minute......ANA, JAL , EVA , Starlux was full

Hi, in early planning of my next Japan trip in January. This time wanna do Tokyo-Mt Fuji-Tohoku Region. Pax 3 Adult 1 kid

I need some advice or recommendations as we wanna visit Mt Fuji as well as Tohoku areas.

1. is it recommended to drive from Tokyo to Sendai/Aomori? I checked that the Tohoku Expressway Pass do not cover Tokyo.
2. Was thinking of taking bus from Tokyo to Sendai, but never take long distance bus in Japan before. Is this recommended for 3Adult1kid + Luggages?
I was thinking of driving as i enjoy driving in Japan and the flexibility it gives to me and my family, kindly advise or give your opinions

Day 1-3  : Tokyo (2night)
Day 4-5  : Drive to Mt Fuji and stay nearby (1night)
Day 5-6  : Tokyo (1night)
Day 6-8 : Drive to Miyagi (2night)
Day 8-10 : Drive to Aomori (2night)
Day 10-11 : Drive to Sendai (1night)
Day 11-12 : Drive to Tokyo
*
how old was the kid? Can sit quite and behave? Because Japan bus need remain silent all the time.
Oh yes...If you plan taking bus, before recline your seat, you need permission from passenger who seat behind you.
Jan...90% you can't see full view of Mt Fuji. 10% you need damm Fxxx luck. Winter are damm cloudy....Top part of Mt Fuji always covred by cloud.

Thanks for your input. Wow, need to be silent all the time? Even though my kid is well behaved, to expect him to sit still and quiet for 6hrs is asking too much.

Might skip Fuji since no point going if can't see Fuji-san, however any recommended place to stay nearby Mt Fuji?

BTW, for driving from Tokyo to Miyagi. I was planning to get Tohoku Expressway Pass 7Days, but the Pass only cover Fukushima Prefecture onwards. Hence, for the journey of Tokyo to border of Fukushima will be paying via ETC, do i need to exit toll and re-enter since the Tohoku Expressway Pass start from Iwaki Nakoso IC??

Lastly, will it be snowing for Tohoku region during mid Jan?
*
6 hrs journey normally will have 2 R&R stop for pee and rest. walk round R&R inhale some fresh air.
Budget? Hotel at Lake Kawaguchiko are expensive. Very expensive.

Yes. You need to Exit and re-entring.

Jan-Mar are the thickest snow fall in Tohoku Region. Make sure you rent 4WD car no matter what cost. DO not rent any 2WD car.
