Two of my Western Digital Caviar SE hover around 38'C to 40'C biggrin.gif

I read an article once regarding the effects of temperature on a HDD, surprisingly... The lifespan of a HDD greatly decreases below 25'C and above 60'C, or was it 50'C? rclxub.gif

my Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 160 GB stays at 42-43C all the time rclxub.gif
my another WD 160 GB is just 37-38C

why Seagate is hotter? Is it because it is slimmer?

Temp 1 is mostly likely your CPU, Temp 2 and 3 could either be the Northbridge or PWM IC.

Temps for my 6 HDs in my case (Aerocool Baydream):

2x 160GB Seagate (one of them is the boot drive with OS, apps and games - heavy usage on that drive).
1x 320GB WD
- all 3 in a stack in 3x 5.25" drive bay with a 120mm LED fan blowing air into case through the HDs
- around 33-36C

1x 500GB Seagate
- in a 5.25" drive bay with cheap 2x fan HDD cooler mounted underneath the HD
- around 33-36C

1x 250GB WD
- in 3.25" internal drive bay mounted over PSU area (not directly over PSU)
- around 34-37C
- there are 3x 80mm LED fans blowing air over these internal drive bays

1x 250GB WD
- in a similar location as the 250GB WD above, but directly over PSU (there is a metal casing separation between the PSU and drive bays)
- around 43-45C
- there are 3x 80mm LED fans blowing air over these internal drive bays
- since the two 250GB drives are identical, and both have the same 3x 80mm fans blowing air over them, I believe the higher temps are from the one drive's mounting directly over the PSU.
