if its wear level was high within one year of my warranty(battery warranty was 1 year) i can ask for a new replacement. thats why i wanna check la before my warranty expires this year.
Dude, battery wont get infected by germs, its wear level affects ur unplugged performance time. the more it wears, the less time u can use outside, so its an issue if you goes around using it without power adapter.
*
it depends on ur warranty u bought i believe...i bought 3 years complete cover for my laptop...so i think they will replace the battery as well...correct me if im wrong...

about the wear level, i ask my fren from dell, he told me normally 2 years...means 365x2 = 730days...

How long does it take for Dell to confirm the order wit you? Ordered yesterday thru online shop and very excited about it.

And does it come wit mandarin language support? Like I wanna have the windows to be default English but want it to support mandarin and also able to type mandarin w/o third-party software. I can do this thru the regional language thingy in XP but dunno if the thing exists in Vista.

EDIT: Juz found out Microsoft released Vista SP1 today. Will Dell update it to SP1 for me?

Hehe sorry for the annoying questions. Juz dun wanna regret buying this lappie.
*
depends...just keep bugging them...they will speed up the delivery if they can...around 2-3 weeks time u will get it...penangite get the advantage, i got it pretty fast with the reason im going to overseas... mandarin language support? u mean dell support or the windows language? both also can...under regional and language in control panel setting...add in simplified chinese...for chinese customer support, just ask for it, they hv agent speak in chinese...

SP1? hmmm....i wudnt want to risk for installing it first...waiting for feedback from lyners...

u won regret gua....im using it...so far so good...no complain...

pls help me with this two stuff 1st.. should i use recovery cd to recover back everything..?
*
u dun need the recovery cd to recover it...i cudnt remember much about hitting F(number) to go into bios and do the recovery...u shud read the manual...

as i assume, this is not the hardware problem i supposed...its just the software problem...try to update ur software...do some virus and spyware cleaning...it may get ur system back to normal..

ohya, another thing, try update the bios driver...it has something to do with ur missing indicators...

Mandarin character support for Windows. You noe like the old days you have to install Chinese Star to read chinese words? XP can recognise mandarin characters if the required files are installed ma. I also found a way to type mandarin characters w/o third party software by playing wit the language bar. Dunno if they will install the file for me or not...

Will it be too late to call now to ask them if they can do anything about it? Or wait till the thing got delivered and den only install the file manually?

Read from overseas forums the performance increase a bit wit SP1 oh...
*
if im not wrong, windows vista can recognise mandarin character...for typing u need to install it under control panel with ur OS dvd comes with ur laptop...they won install for u unless u request ...

geez i wanna return this system back to dell lerrr... Vista lags all the games down. FIFA also playing in slow-mo even though set to lowest resolution and least detail...

Any advices? Full refund then buy same lappie wit XP? Or izzit coz I'm playing ahem version of FIFA? 08 no stock ler...
*
i see ur siggy there..with ur spec it shudnt be a problem for playing games like fifa...mine i set to maximum graphic, no lagging...my spec almost same like urs, the vary is only the processor, t7300..but now im using windows xp...no more vista... suspected windows vista desktop background working on too much ram...try to google and do some tweaking to close some unwanted software running(unneccesary stuff!!! vista has many)

u dun need to full refund ur laptop...u have 14 days to change anything if u r not satisfy...just money is the matters..hehe...anyway, i suggest u use windows xp..it will smoothen everything down... biggrin.gif

^ really? But Vista is kind of future-proof, dun you think? Dx10 support will only be for Vista (forgot read from where) and future updates innovations are only available to vista, right? I wouldn't mind if FIFA09 runs smoothly off Vista... As long as I dun get stuck wit slow-mo games for the entire period I'm usin this lappie.

BTW, found the mandarin support thingy already. Looks like Windows pre-supports several known languages. No need to install from Windows DVD. Juz play settings at language bar.

EDIT: Got FIFA08 to work smoothly, as in silky smooth. Changed the settings at the "NIVIDIA Control Panel' to Performance. Power plan at Dell Recommended. Resolution 2nd highest (highest the players look kinda small). But the menus are still not very responsive...
*
congratulation bro....glad u solve ur problem...btw, im going to buy a new hdd to install vista...swapping hdd wud be easier i think...

Help! Help! my new dell has stubborn dye stain i can't remove!!!

I just bought my dell inspiron 1520 for about a week, it's flamingo pink with microsatin finish.
I've use my ex-company's laptop backpack to store my new dell, but that bag is of very cheap quality i guess, the blue color dye just worn off and stick all over to my new dell  cry.gif

Now the blue stain is unable to remove!! I've tried water, soap, glass cleaner, prewash cleaner, acetone, vinegar, but i still cant remove the stain!!!

Please if anyone can help?? It's a new notebook and I'm so 'heart pain' to see her in that condition  cry.gif
*
hows is the paint dye looks like? can show some pic sp that we can help? as i know meaning of micro satin is a kind of material that is durable surface which can handle scratches...

dell inspiron 1520 and vostro 1500 series with 8600M GT are ALL using DDR2 (400MHz). Depending on your DDR2, you might be lucky to have this RAM chip inside - HY5PS561621AFP. i find it to be very overclockable, over 500MHz (i got it to run at 550MHz rock solid stable).

only the more expensive XPS M1530 uses DDR3.

Congratulations on the new purchase Kev. you have been listed on the first page.

OC (with care) does not do much harm to your components. inspiron 1520 has excellent cooling system, way better than many of the laptops i've seen (opened). im not saying OC will not void your warranty, it probably will, but i for one am going to squeeze every single drop of juice out of my laptop before it becomes obselete in 1-2 years time.

u'll need a good set of driver (try v174.74) and OC tool (try rivatuner). my 3DMark06 at 1280x800 default settings is 4800 (+-50) mark. try beat that with the default factory clock. i can push it higher, but i decided a balance of performance and safety is more important
owner list updated. welcome to the club hihihehe.
*
haha..thanks dude bro for the information..will try to OC it and let u know the result...
