It is weird. Since using this new bios, my lappy will shut off after some hours. initially i thought it was the power management, but when i checked, it is set on NEVER to sleep or display.whats goin on? icon_question.gif

FURTHERMORE, since the 1st day, the DVD Drive will sometime automatically eject out, although i did not attempt to do such relevant task to it. blink.gif

A09 and every other bios seems to work just fine for me. no wierd things going on. try reset ur bios to factory default, and ur power management to default, then reconfigure again see if the problem goes away

i am clueless on this. How to reset the BIOS to factory default? icon_question.gif

yup, like hihihehe said, press F2 during startup screen (the one with dell logo), then look for reset factory default setting in it.

GUYS...bad news. Dell does not offer Nvidia 8600M GT on the inspiron line except the Inspiron 1720. They only supplied the 1520 with the lower GPU 8400M GS. Don't know whether this will stay on until they discontinue the model. so probably we can't expect anymore members with the same GPU. Maybe DELL realised that 1520 is more value for money than the new STudio Line. sad.gif

i felt soooo relief .if i had waited until now, i'd missed 1520 with 8600M GT.For studio or XPS line, are well beyond my budget.

I rather prefer powerful GPU rather than a very fast processor, cos i can wait for things to load, but i can't make graphics better with a lame intergrated GPU. We become the elders for the budget gaming DELL laptop.

Saw some brands have released their line with the Centrino 2 platform. They evolve so quickly that my wallet cant cope with it. hahahahahaha blush.gif

just as i thought. the first sign dell wanted to get rid of 1520 is when xps m1530 first launched. 1520 is an internal threat to m1530 because of the relatively same specs at a much cheaper price. without 8600m gt, 1520 will loose its value..

Yes, i do agree. Now that Vostro 1500 also no longer on their website. blink.gif

Quoted from DELL MALAYSIA WEBSITE= when i search for 1520

"Looking for Dell Inspiron 1520?
We are sorry! The product you are searching is no longer available.
Please have a look at the latest range of Dell Inspiron Laptops currently available."

It discontinued sooner than i think. oh my.... i feel like mourning... cry.gif

OMG, my 1520 has become a history! I still remember the excitement of getting my 1520 last year the same time now.  biggrin.gif
Never thought that it will end so fast! That makes our 1520 a limited edition of one of the best quality budget laptop!  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif
The thing I wonder is that if later our laptop got any problem which need replacement, will DELL replace with a newer model or a refurbished 1? sweat.gif

i was thinking that too. A rare 1520. i also never have felt the same way with my previous lappy. I checked that 1720 now also very2 good value. C2D T8100 Proc and others are default offered are less than RM3900. rolleyes.gif

Are those lines equipped with 8400M GS only? probably 8600M GT not affected ("touch wood").or their cooling system aren't as efficient as 1520 and 1720. brows.gif

that's not likely. 1520 can be configured with 8400M too, and not forgetting M1530 has 8600M GT too. by the way, A09 BIOS for M1530 has been released today.

the only explaination now is the more efficient cooling system.
*
Mmmm.. another thing that almost similar on those lines, they're all thin and light .skinny type, every component so pack to each other that i suspect may contribute to faster heating component. Running the laptop in an airconditioned room improve the temp? blink.gif

Ok. It's easy. Right click on the MY COMPUTER, then click on the properties.
-Click on HARDWARE
-Click on DEVICE MANAGER
-On the list there, click on  the "+" sign on the MONITOR icon
-Right Click on the PLUG N PLAY MONITOR
-Click on the PROPERTIES
-Click the DETAILS on the top panel
-then U will see a row like this "DISPLAY\AUO2077\xxxxxxxx"

The AUO 2007 is the model of your monitor. AUO means for AU OPTRONICS which is basically owned by ACER.

Besides AUO, you also might get other brand like "LPL" which stands for LG PHILIPS LCD.

DELL outsource all its LCD to other manufacturer, so you might get different model from us.  tongue.gif

YEP! Mine also SEC3358. i also believe to be made by samsung. does any comparison between these LCDs manufacturer? brows.gif

i dont mean to burst your bubbles guys, but samsung notebook LCDs have a nasty reputation for being grainy, leaking light and uneven  brightness. i dont know which model is affected, but if you are happy with your LCD, then it should be fine.
*
y or y DELL opted for this samsung.I've read at some other forums too about samsung LCDs. Some are happy, some do have complaints.

As for me, when i first got this lappy, grainy was the issue. Now , got used to it.

Other than that, bleeding light only very2 minor. I have used this screen outdoor, although very2 REFLECTIVE, but the picture is quite bright and colours are vivid.

maybe i'm in a state of denial or what...but i did apply the techniques u mentioned, and felt happy with the way things are as of now. smile.gif
felt just like what i've expected of an LCD screen, I would approve their quality if I were QC analyst. maybe got used with Samsung coz all my monitors are Samsung-based. hehe.

but since you've mentioned it, i did notice my desktop LCD, I'm using a black background wallpaper, at different angles, I did notice the corners give aways some reddish lights...is this the "light leakage" phenomenon the people are talking about? ahh, out of topic.

anyways, I', Ok with all that actually, not too picky. unless these kinda issues can cause blindness in the long term. then it IS an issue.
*
Another thing is, that differentiate this lcd with other brand. When you turn down the brightness all the way,it only dimmed. This is different from my previous laptop from Twinhead and ACER screen which will go completely dark if the brightness was dialed all the way down.

But in the article the DELL representative says that models which has not been given the BIOS update are not affected with the heat issue.
Which means ours 1520 and 1720 are safe?

blink.gif

They were saying based on the design of the laptop will partly determined whether there are problems or not......
Now aren't you glad our 1520 is BIG as a TANK with the all metal aloy chassis ??? tongue.gif
