PENGGUNAAN serai sebagai penyedut minuman akan diperluaskan ke kafe hospital termasuk kepada pesakit bagi menggantikan straw plastik.

Cadangan itu dikemukakan Pengerusi Lembaga Kemajuan Pertanian Kemubu (KADA), Senator Datuk Husam Musa yang bersedia membekalkan serai kepada mana-mana pihak yang ingin menyahut saranan itu.

Beliau berkata, penggunaan serai sebagai penyedut minuman adalah sesuatu yang baru dan sebagai permulaan, beliau mewajibkan penggunaannya di semua kafe KADA.


"Tanaman serai mempunyai 27 jenis dan untuk penggunaan sebagai penyedut minuman, serai buluh adalah sesuai.

"Kita akan memajukan penggunaannya kepada kafe Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) sama ada untuk digunakan oleh orang ramai atau pesakit kerana ia adalah bahan semula jadi.

"Tanamannya juga akan diperbanyakkan iaitu di sepanjang tebing tali air KADA dan dianggarkan lebih 10,000 rumpun sudah ditanam di Kampung Padang Halban," katanya di Ladang Merdeka Senor, Pasir Mas, semalam.

Husam menyifatkan penggunaannya adalah dua dalam satu kerana lapisan luar saja dijadikan penyedut minuman manakala isi dalamnya dijadikan bahan masakan seperti biasa.

Katanya, beliau akan membuat surat rasmi kepada pihak HUSM, Kubang Kerian untuk kemukakan cadangan itu dalam masa terdekat memandangkan bekalan serai sangat banyak.

"Bagi pencinta alam sekitar, inisiatif serai sebagai penyedut minuman adalah amat bagus kerana dapat mengurangkan penggunaan bahan plastik," katanya.

serai as straw has been used in thailand and vietnam since 2 years ago
they emptied the middle of it and use it as straw

we're already slow by 2 years yet kena triggered

besides ...as mentioned in the article..there are 27 varieties of lemongrass...the selected is serai buluh type...maybe it different or dont have strong taste like the normal cooking type

for heath enthusiast, lemonade or lime juice is good for daily consumption. But acid citrus will erode teeth. Using straw help reduce the effect.
